"Chunk, why did you leave me? Why Chunk?" Lily's voice whispered. "Lily where are you?!" I yelled! I could see her figure in the darkness. I ran over to her "Lily!" I grabbed her little shoulder. "WHY DID YOU LEAVE ME TO DIE?!" She spoke, her eyes stained milky white.
My eyes flickered open to a blinding light, and I grabbed my heart panting for breath. "Lily, I am sorry." a tear rolled down my cheek.
My body ached all over, I tried to sit up, but the pain engulfed my entire body. I looked down at my arms; they were red and covered in blisters. My whole body is red, the sun-scorched every inch of me. But no runes... I didn't see the book anywhere. "Perhaps I lost it in the ocean after all."
A sudden spell of dryness filled my throat. I looked towards the sea and crawled to shore and took a sip. "Blagghh, salty."
"Shade," I muttered as I began to crawl over to the trees. How did I end up on an island in the middle of nowhere?
I laid back on the trunk of the tree and looked up to the sky. I watched as the waves rubbed against the shore and listened to the birds as they sang their melodies. The pure white sand complimented the crystal clear water.
Where am I going to find water? I felt something in my pocket, my snickers bar! I fished it out and ripped open the package. I scarfed it down, savoring the gooey goodness.
The bar only reminded me of how hungry I was. "What do I have on me?" I told myself. "I lost my shoes and socks diving after the book; I do have a tattered pair of jeans and a shirt that's on its final stretch."
"Hopefully I can find some water." I stood up and walked into the dark forest.
...
The ground was soft covered with moss, and I saw all sorts of plants that bloomed with colors and rich with sweet scents. Vines hung from gigantic trees that covered the sky in a sea of green. "What is this place?" The birds were singing, and the insects were buzzing. Everything was full of life.
The beauty would be breathtaking if I didn't have this feeling looming over me. Something is watching me.
I wandered further into the forest, leaving X marks on trees to guide my way. I heard the sound of trickling water, "A stream!" I raced over to the stream gulping water. So sweet, I have never had water this good before.
My skin itched "My skin!" My skin began turning from red and blistered to pink.
This will be an excellent place to build a shelter. I started gathering a bunch of broken branches and set them across a sturdy log to create a canopy. "It was a half-assed job, but it'll do" I smiled to myself.
GRRRRR
"My stomach!" I grabbed my stomach. I walked through the forest, leaving little X marks along the way. I heard a rustle in the trees and saw something flash in the corner of my eye. I looked, but nothing was there.
I kept walking and eventually found a tree; it glistened with little green gems that hung from its branches. I walked over and plucked one from the branch and took a bite. This fruit is amazing! It's even better than the spring.
I plucked a bunch of fruit until I had about half a dozen in my shirt. I followed the trail back to my camp. The forest became silent, "It's much quieter than usual." I whispered.
...
As I walked through the forest, I heard freaky noises. The shadow appeared in the corner of my eye again. When I looked, I saw a yellow furred monkey no more than three feet tall hanging from a branch. It had a blank curious expression, and a small little horn sticking from its head. The yellow monkey's eyes were gray, and it cued softly. It stared at my shirt and saw the fruit. The monkey smiled, revealing a set of pointy teeth.
"Do you want some?" I asked, offering a piece of fruit. It instantly bolted away, "Strange. There was something creepy about the way it looked at me." I walked back to camp following my little trail. I heard a scratching noise in the distance and rustling in the trees. After dropping off the fruit, I hiked back to the tree and gathered more.
...
...
...
The sky was glowing orange, and the stars began to show. I followed the trail and arrived back to my camp, only it wasn't the way I left it. My shelter was in tatters; I ran up to investigate further.
...
Slowly, from the shadows, the yellow furred monkey I had seen early emerged. A cruel smile crossed upon its face. Another one came out on a branch, and another until the trees crowded with them. They all smiled at me; their eyes turned red.
There was a savage expression on the yellow monkey's faces as they licked their lips. "Oh, no..." I turned around and ran. They screamed at the top of their lungs and began chasing after me. I ran as fast as I could following the x's. However, something didn't feel right.
...
"I don't recognize any of this." This path isn't right. I looked to my right and saw something that haunted me. "They didn't." I looked to my left. "They did..."
I stopped briefly; surrounding me were trees covered in X marks. One of the monkeys was racing through the treetops swinging along the vines and sliding down the logs. The yellow monkey perched itself on a branch and gave me a pointy grin. I ran away even faster.
The monkey used it's weight to swing from a branch and flung into the air. It extended its sharp claws and gave a howl swinging its arm down. It clawed me in the back "AGHH" I yelped.
I could feel my back becoming warm and damp from the blood. Up ahead the forest was clearing up. I heard the waves rub against the shore and smelt the sea.
My calves burned, and my lungs worked overtime. I am going to die; those little monsters are going to rip me apart!!! The same feeling from that time took over. I remembered the black beast. It's pointy fangs; the coat that was as black as midnight, and the ash that billowed from its breath — those blood moon eyes. My heartfelt heavy and my legs slowed down.
"NO!" A fire in me ignited. "I am not going to die today!" I screamed out, and I felt strength return to my legs. The fear that burdened my heart fade away. My legs sprinted faster towards the beach
...
I reached the beach; the killer monkeys were close behind me screaming and hissing. I looked towards the moonlit water and swam out to sea. The monkeys crowded the shore but refused to get in, they whimpered and cowered away from the water. They looked at me one last time and ran back into the forest.
"They left, I didn't think that would work. Haha-" I celebrated. However, it was short-lived when something had brushed past me.
...
"Agh!" A jolt of pain followed by numbness filled my right leg. "I have to get out of the water!" I swam towards the shore slicing through the inky black water.
My movements became strained, and I could only inch closer towards the shore. I felt another jolt of pain in my left hand. I was too tired to scream out. Just a few more feet. "I can make it." I crawled out of the water and into the sand; I rolled over on my back and collapsed. I stared up at the night sky and shut my eyes.
...
...
When awoke, the sun was beating down on me. My right leg and left arm were completely numb, I crawled over to a tree and slumped on the stump. I used my swollen hand and rolled up my pants to see a purple leg with four holes leaking pus. "Is this poison?" I looked at the strange holes.
Tears started to roll down my cheek. "Why did this happen to me?! I didn't deserve this!" I screamed at the ocean. I am all alone.
I heard a rustle in the bushes, and a small yellow monkey poked its head out shrub. "Go away!" I screamed at it. I tried to stand up, but my leg couldn't handle the burden.
The monkey looked at me, curiously with innocent gray eyes. It marched on three hands and laid something down on the sand next to me. It was a single fruit.
I looked up at the monkey, "One fruit a day?" I asked. But the little monkey ran off into the forest disappearing into the sea of trees. I looked at the fruit, then thought back on yesterday.
I felt a dull pain in my head and a message in fire formed in front of me.
