POV: Rebel Reid
"Look at this place, it's a madhouse," I comment.
"Do you think she'll show?" Bridie asks.
"Well duh, she's Dillion, she not only going to show, but she'll probably make an entrance," Scooter says.
I sigh and stare down at the table. He's probably right. What was I thinking? She's a monster. A ruthless girl who lacks sympathy.
"Hey cheer up, look at it this way, you saved yourself. No way you could ever date someone like that." Birdie tries.
I sigh and rest my head on the table. Maybe this is my fault, maybe I pushed her over the edge and created something worse than she already was. This is what I get for trying to do the right thing, I should have just left her alone.
The whole cafeteria goes silent and I lift my head. Dillion walks in looking better than ever. She has on new clothes, a new dress, new heels, new earrings. Her hair is dyed pink at the tips, she just looks extra glamor today. I feel like I'm going to be sick.
"I'm going to go to the library," I say.
"Want us to come?" Scooter asks.
"No thanks, I just want to be alone," I say.
Birdie frowns at me but I ignore her and get up. I quickly walk out before Dillion can notice me. She ruined so many lives yesterday. She even sent clover to jail! Even I think that is going overboard. Is she okay? Why did she do that? Why does she play that awful game? What does she get out of it? I don't understand.
The sound of shoes walking behind me draws my attention. I turn and see Cricket and Tomas close behind me. They are eyeing me. I look to them in confusion before I face forward. In front of me stands Flynn and Ram. I am surrounded. I turn around and they are closer now.
I glance at the library and see Clover and Alaska standing in the doorway.
"Just fucking grab her before the librarian comes back." Clover barks.
I make a run for it. The boys are faster. Cricket grabs me from behind. I kick and trash in his embrace.
"Let go of me!" I shout.
Flynn gets some duck tape out and puts a piece on my mouth.
"Emmm!" I try to scream. Then Tomas and Ram grab me by my arms and drag me into the library. I try to resist but they are stronger.
We all walk to the back of the library into the computer lab that teachers rarely use. Clover quickly shuts the door behind us and Alaska tapes a piece of paper over the window slit. Then Clover walks over to me and rips the tape from my lips.
"Ow! What the hell!? What are you guys doing? Let go of me!? I thought you were in jail!" I struggle against them.
"Shut up, I got out and now I have two years of community service to make up for, not to mention a huge bill I owe. We are done taking shit from Dillion, we are going to take her down and you are going to help us." She smirks.
"You're crazy! I already told you I don't have anything on her. I will never help you!"
"We don't believe you." Alaska reaches into my pocket and pulls out my phone.
"So, are we doing this the easy way, or the hard way?" Cricket pinches my cheeks.
"Screw you. Help! Someone help me!" I shout.
Flynn grabs my mouth and forces it shut before taping it up again.
"Quiet!" he hisses.
"Emm!"
"Give me her hand, we need her finger to unlock it," Clover says.
I curl my hands into a tight fist.
Ram struggles to uncurl my fist.
"Oh for fuck's sake." Clover rolls her eyes before moving closer to me.
I watch as she unbuttons and unzips my jeans. In one swift movement, she tries to pants me. I quickly uncurl my fist to hold my pants into place. Ram grabs one of my hands and they get my finger to unlock the phone.
Then they all crowd around the device.
I quickly zip up and fix my pants, Tomas is the only one holding me now.
"Go through the text," Alaska says.
My eyes go wide, the fucking video! Shit! No! they can't see that video. I yank free from Tomas after elbowing him in the groin. He grunts and doubles over in pain. Then I tackle Clover from behind and we both go tumbling to the floor.
"Shit! Grab her!" Flynn says.
The phone goes sliding across the floor.
"Get off me!" Clover pushes me off.
We both leap for it.
Once again Alaska is faster, she grabs it and I smack it out of her hands. The phone goes flying through the air and lands on the other side of the room. I make a break for it, but Cricket and Flynn hold me back.
"Emm!" I struggle against their biceps.
"Crazy bitch," Clover complains before going to get the phone.
"Must be juicy," Alaska says.
In less than a few seconds the video is playing out. I close my eyes tightly to hold in my tears.
"I knew it! bitch is hella gay!" Clover says.
"See if you can get the original and send it to your phone," Alaska says.
"That's kind of hot." Cricket snickers.
The boys giggle and smack him on the shoulder.
They don't even bother to hold me anymore. I just slump down in a chair in defeat. I rip the tape from my lips. They soon find the video with my narrating and send it to themselves.
"What's this going to accomplish? So what she's gay if you out her what will it do? Why do you play this dumb game?" I ask.
"She needs to pay for what she did to us." Clover hisses.
"Thanks to her I might be expelled!" Alaska says.
"Yeah, now the guys on the team think we are a joke!" Flynn says.
"Not to mention I'll never be able to leave this fucking town until I finish all my community service!" Clover says.
"She has it coming, she needs to be taken down," Alaska says.
"You guys don't know what it's like for her. You'll destroy her." I can feel my tears about to spill over.
"Serves her right." Clover hands me back my phone.
"We can show it tomorrow at the pep rally, everyone will see it," Flynn suggest.
"Dude! Yes, talk about epic." Cricket laughs.
The guys quickly walk out leaving me alone with Clover and Alaska.
"Thank you, we couldn't have done it without you," Clover smirks.
"Don't, don't do this. Please. You don't know what it will do to her."
"Whatever it is, she deserves every last bit of it." Clover spat before leaving.
Alaska gave me a look, something between apprehension and worry. Then she just bowed her head to the ground and walked out.
I have to warn Dillion.
I look down at my phone which is now a shattered mess. I quickly shove into my pocket before running out of the room just as the bell rings. I run down the halls in search of her, she's not hard to find as people clear out of her way.
"Dillion!" I run up to her.
She flinches and makes a face at me before ignoring me completely and continuing on.
"Dillion listen to me! I have to tell you something." I grab her arm.
"Let go of me you freak." She spat.
"I'm trying to help you!" I snap at her.
"I don't need your help!" she pushes me so hard I fall on my butt.
"But—"
"I don't need you! I don't need anyone! I am just fine on my own." She looks down at me.
I can see the pain in her eyes. She's fooled herself. She's hurting. I did that to her. I have to fix this, I have to help her. I get up.
"Dillion please, just listen."
She slaps me hard across the face.
Everyone watching laughs and makes commentary. I guess I deserved that one.
"I hate you." she spat.
Then she turns to leave.
"Dillion!" I call after her.
She ignores me and keeps walking.
"You okay?" Birdie and Scooter come over to me.
"No! I was ambushed, Clover is planning on taking down Dillion at the pep rally tomorrow. She's going to use my footage to do it! I have to stop them."
"You had footage of Dillion? What footage."
"It doesn't matter, it's bad. We have to stop it from getting out. We need to end this game today!"
"Okay, what do we do?" Scooter says.
"I'm going to go tell the principal, I need you two to come with me as back up."
They nod. We break off into a sprint towards the front office but once again Flynn and his buddies stand in our way.
"You're not going to ruin this for us," Flynn says.
"Nice handprint on your face." Cricket snorts in amusement.
"Now what?" birdie asks.
"It has to be you, your tiny, you can easily get past them Scooter and I will hold them off." I turn to her.
"We will!?" Scooter says.
I shoot him a look.
"Right, we will."
She nods.
There is four of them and three of us. We charge. Scooter and I take the brunt of the impact as they knock us down. Birdie slips through.
"One got away!" Tomas says.
"After her!" Cricket orders.
I quickly stand to my feet and help Scooter up.
"Ugh, that was dumb." He rubs his shoulder.
"Come on!" I tug him and chase after them. We all run towards the principal's office after birdie.
When we get there my heart sinks. Alaska and Clover were blocking the door. Flynn grabs me from behind, Cricket grabs Scooter, and Tomas and Ram hoist Birdie off the floor.
"I think it's time we take out the trash," Clover says.
"Wait, please! You can't do this!"
She rolls her eyes and walks off.
"Alaska listen to me! you know this is wrong!" I try.
She averts her eyes and walks after Clover.
Then the guys hoist us up and throw us out the front door just as the final bell rings. The doors lock after the final bell so we are locked out of the school now. I bang on the door but no one is around to hear it.
"No! come on! Open the door!" I beg.
No one comes.
"Rebel."
"No! we have to stop them. I promised her. I promised her I'd never show that footage to anyone. This can't be happening." I slide down the door.
"There's nothing we can do now." Scooter sits next to me.
"No, she'll hate me forever. She'll run away. We can't let this happen." My tears slip out and down my cheeks.
"There is still tomorrow, we can still stop them." Birdie sits on the other side of me.
"Why didn't I delete that footage!? God, I'm so stupid! This is all my fault. If I hadn't had started all of this. I just wanted to help. This can't be happening." I bury my face in my knees.
"Hey come on, we still have a chance." Scooter rubs my back.
I just cry harder into my knees.
Birdie grabs my hand in her own and rubs the back of it with her thumb.
"She'll hate me, she'll think it was me who took her down. She'll never talk to me again. That's awful, I can't. I can't be the one that outs her like that." I cry.
"Like what? What's going to happen?" Scooter asks.
I can see it already, the footage with my narration playing on the big screen as the football captain gets ready to make his speech, the football captain being Flynn that is. Dillion will be right there, front row. Clover will make sure of it. They'll send it to her parents. She'll watch it in horror and she'll look at me.
I'm going to be sick.
I quickly get up and run over to the trash can and vomit up my breakfast.
"Whoa, easy." Birdie rubs my back.
"Come on, let's get you home." Scooter tugs me away from the trash can.
I just nod numbly and walk over to my car.
I can't let this happen. No matter what, I have to stop this. I have to save Dillion.
