Roman ~ June 12, Tuesday
I hope Owen is alright.
I had to go back to work eventually, and today had been the day. Though it was only for a little while to take care of a few things. Kane decided it would be safer for me and Owen to move closer to the pack headquarters. Since I refused to leave Owen's side, we were going to be moving into an apartment complex about a mile from where Kane's house was. Derik apparently also lived in the complex, so that was going to help put Kane at ease.
Kane had offered for us to move into his house, but I shot that idea down immediately. Kane was my best friend, but I would probably go insane if I had to live with him.
Since I was going to be moving, I went into work to talk to my boss about taking a week or so off. Now that I know Kane owns the freaking hospital I'm sure he could have arranged for me to get longer off, but I didn't want any handouts.
While I went to talk to my boss and took care of all the other shit that went along with moving, Kane, Derik, and Owen along with several of Kane's friends were packing up most of my stuff and moving it to the apartment. Not everything was going though. Kane assured me that I could keep my house, and I could move back when it was safe.
Hopefully, Owen would be moving back with me.
I groaned at my own hopefulness. I've only known Owen for about 4 days, and I'm already way to attached and way too invested in his life. I feel like I'm in high school all over again, and I'm crushing on the cute new boy.
I let out yet another long sigh as I stared off into space while waiting to be called in to see my boss.
45 minutes later, I was on my way out of the hospital and headed to the post office to change my address. I had already contacted the electric and water companies while waiting at the hospital.
All that was left to do was say good-bye for now to my house. I was going to miss it.
The apartment we were moving into wasn't half bad though. It was a nice two-bedroom, one bath with a full kitchen and living room and dining room that flowed together. It was on the second floor about five doors down from Derik's place.
* * * * *
When I returned to my house about 3 hours after leaving, there was a moving truck in my driveway and boxes and furniture sitting in my yard waiting to be loaded up.
Damn. That was fast.
I parked my car on the other side of the street and hopped out. I strode across the road and weaved my way through the maze of my stuff to the front door. The door was wide open, and I nearly collided with a mover carrying a stack of boxes.
I quickly apologized to the man, and he assured me it was alright as we passed each other. I stepped into the front room and looked around. It was so... empty. Except not really because there was even more boxes stack in here and a few people milling around. Jesus christ how much crap do I have?
My huge L shaped sofa had been in pieces in the yard, my coffee table was nowhere in sight, so I assumed it was loaded up already. My entertainment center and TV were also gone. In its place sat a bunch of bed frame pieces. Not sure where the mattresses were though. The kitchen table was in the living room with all its chairs stacked on top.
I felt heart drop at the sight of my home in such a state. It made it all so surreal. Before I could dwell on it too much though Kane appeared from the hallway with yet another box in his arms followed by Owen, who had an armload of blankets that was almost obstructing his vision.
"Roman!" Kane called in a chipper voice. "Did you get everything done?" Kane paused in front of me and adjusted the box, so it rested on his hip.
I nodded as I reached out to grab a couple of the blankets Owen was carrying. "Yeah, everything is taken care of."
"That's good. We are nearly finished here. There are a few more odds and ends to get from the rooms, but for the most part, we just have to get what's in here, and what's in the yard loaded up, and we are done!" Kane informed me as scratched behind his ear absently.
Owen hugged the blankets he had left close to him as he glanced between us. "Kane says you have a lot of shit that you need to get rid of. He even tried to throw some of it away, but Derik stopped him." Owen tattled.
The small smile that almost always graced Kane's face morphed into one of disbelief as he gawked at Owen. "Owen, Shut up!" He reached over and smacked the boy on the arm. Earing a surprised yelp from Owen. It made me smile when Owen glared right back at Kane.
"Don't hit him!" I scolded Kane as I slapped him across the chest.
Kane gave a dramatized, "ow!" as he rubbed the abused area.
I tried and failed to give him a stern look, but I couldn't help the grin pulling at my lips. "Kane, are you trying to de-junk my house without my knowledge?"
Kane rolled his eyes, "It was just a box or two of random stuff I found." He said with a dismissive wave of his hand.
"He was trying to get rid of all the boxes in the guest bedroom closet." Owen pipped up again.
"You're not helping," Kane growled to the man standing beside him.
Owen ducked his head and shuffled over to stand slightly behind me. "I wasn't trying to." He quipped back.
"Kane!" I smacked the alpha on the arm. "You can't get rid of those they are care packages from my mom!" I yelled.
"Ow, jeez! Stop hitting me!" It's not like you're ever going to use them! Why don't you just get rid of them?" Kane accused as he juggled his box around a bit to keep from dropping it.
"That's not the point," I pointed my finger at him to get my point across. "You can't just throw away gifts from family and friends! It's rude!"
Kane shrugged his shoulders. "Sure, you can. I do it all the time!" he said nonchalantly.
