Yang Zheyan watched as Wen Yingyue disappeared into the distance, but he still didn't change the way he was treating Xiong Jingfei.
"You won't regret it?" Xiong Jingfei asked. She doesn't need his wealth or his status. They can live a normal life and work hard every day for the rest of their life. At least they'll be together at the end of the day.
"No," Yang Zheyan didn't hesitate to answer her, clenching his fist even tighter than before. He turned around to leave, right after telling her, "Leave, I have nothing else to say to you!"
Underneath his long sleeves, blood began to escape his already turning white palm. Painting his fingers red and dying his purple sleeve, the color crimson. However, he didn't feel any of that pain. Instead, the pain he felt was coming directly from his heart.
"Answer my question!" Xiong Jingfei bawled, without a care who will see her in this horrible state.
She wanted to yell and scream for him not to walk away from her. They were only a few steps away, but why does she feel he's miles away from her reach. Once he walks away, everything will indeed be over between them. They now live in two different worlds.
He stopped in his track and without facing her, replied: "Promises are meant to be broken."
Xiong Jingfei cried even louder and covered her ears, refusing to believe every word he just said. Those were not the words she was looking for. Is he going to break all the promises he made to her?
By the time she looked up, Yang Zheyan was gone, and the gates were closed once again.
"No, no, no!" Xiong Jingfei shrieked, shaking her head. She finally got the chance to see him after so many months. She ran up the steps and pounded on the doors with her small fists.
He never came to find her or showed up when they had sent people to cancel the marriage agreement. Yang Zheyan's parents did not bother to give her parents any face. Instead of coming in person, they sent two servants to return the exchanged betrothed gift that happened many years ago.
The gate guards glanced at one another before snatching Xiong Jingfei's by her arms. Disregarding she was a woman, they violently pushed her down the stone steps.
Xiong Jingfei rolled twice before landing flat on the ground. She didn't move or made any sound besides the moment when she was pushed down the stairs; it was an excruciating scream.
The younger gate guard looked at the oldest gate guard, afraid she died. They did this in front of so many witnesses, and the Yang clan is a high-status family.
"As long as we did our job by keeping her out, it doesn't matter how we had handled her!" The oldest guard growled, almost wanting to smack the youngest one in the head.
He is making it seem like they did something horrible to her. All they did was follow an order made by the head madam. She did say, 'it doesn't matter how you handle her, just get rid of her!'
"Miss! Miss! Where are you?" Xu Song shouted, trying to overpower the people loudly talking near Yang's manor.
She pushed the crowd out of her way and squeezed herself through them. A few of them scowled at her for pushing them into others, but she didn't care. Her Miss went missing since this morning, and this was the last place she didn't search yet.
"Miss!" Xu Song screamed in horror, seeing Xiong Jingfei laying on the ground unmoving.
She ran and gently lifted her Miss into her arms like a fragile baby. Xu Song whimpered seeing Xiong Jingfei's forehead cut open with blood streaming down. She had bruises and cuts on her arms and legs.
"Please be alright, Miss. Somebody go get me a doctor for my Miss, please!" Xu Song shouted at the crowd who stood around, pointing their finger at her.
"Jingfei!"
The crowd immediately sparse when a horse with a carriage came galloping right at them. If they didn't, they'd be stomped on by the horse and its rider.
"Young master Wei Weimin, please help my Miss. I'll give you anything!" Xu Song begged, kowtowing and hitting her head on the ground.
Wei Weimin quickly got off the carriage and put his finger under her nose. He sighed out in relief when he felt her warm breath against his fingers. Even gentler than Xu Song, he lifted Xiong Jingfei into his arms.
Xiong Jingfei opened her eyes to find herself in the Wei Weimin's arms. Usually, she would have rejected him by holding her too close. As a man and woman should keep their distance from each other. Only she didn't have any energy left to give him a lecture.
Thankfully the stairs were only about ten steps, so her injury wasn't as severe. But because of the unexpected push, she couldn't get herself prepare for it. Resulting in her fainting longer than she had expected.
She took one last look at the Yang gates. He still didn't come out after what his gate guards did to her. There is no way he wouldn't have heard it as loud as the crowd was earlier.
Xiong Jingfei closed her eyes to engrave all those pain into her heart.
I hate you, Yang Zheyan. I hate you! She silently cursed on the inside with only one tear escaping her eyes. Why is it so hard to hate you?
"Young master Wei Weimin, please take me back to my place." Xiong Jingfei weakly requested when they were inside the carriage.
"Miss, you need to see a doctor." Xu Song interjected, wiping off the blood on Xiong Jingfei's face.
Xiong Jingfei weakly shook her head. How was she going to pay the doctor and for his medicine? She didn't live the luxury life where she can call for a doctor whenever she wants.
"Don't worry about anything. I'll take care of it for you." Wei Weimin offered, he wasn't going to let her go home without seeing a doctor.
"No, I already owe you too much." Xiong Jingfei rejected his kind gesture. "Please take me back to my... home."
It wasn't home, but it was a place she was seeking shelter. A house is better than no house.
It went back and forth between the two of them to go and not to go. In the end, Wei Weimin gave into Xiong Jingfei request to send her back without seeing a doctor. Since she was unwilling to see a doctor, the least he can do was give her necessary medicine.
"Thank you for everything," Xiong Jingfei gave him a courtesy bow. "I apologize as I will not be inviting you in."
Wei Weimin nodded his head in understanding why. He watched as she staggers into the house with the help of her maid Xu Song. He wanted to run up to her and carry her back to her bedroom. Though she'll reject him on the spot as it wouldn't look good. All he could do was watch her go in and wish her the best in recovery.
"I hope you don't regret your decision Zheyan." Wei Weimin murmured. Getting back into the carriage, he ordered his coachman to head back to the Yang manor.
