The End of the World

The End of the World

Jan 16, 2020

A fantastic date, you leave with a spring in your step, and then, tragedy strikes. Your heart falls through your chest, and you are left wondering...why?

The subject of today's post is, what happens if you had a great date and then you get a text message "Hey, I thought about it and I just don't think blah blah blah blah-" The rest doesn't actually matter, it's just noise to let you know it's over. And there's this perception that the big decision that it's over is going to impact you longterm.

Let me raise a scenario for you. For this example, your date is a lovely Lickatung from pokemon. You manage to find this really interesting and rare pokemon out in the wild and you throw a pokeball. Success! Caught! And then you put it in your pokebag (or whatever kids are calling it these days) and the next day you get a text message from snorelax that says "Hey, I thought about it and honestly I think I'm looking for a pokemaster who is more into fire types." At this point, your heart sinks. You had been looking for one of the normal type pokemon for ages that you think fits in your team and it just...left.

Now what do you do? Find another Lickatung? What if there is only one Lickatung in all of the Jhoto region? And! It was unique! A shiny version! Those are so rare! ...seriously I probably am making way too many nerd references here...so back to real world info.

We can talk philosophy etc all day err day, but taking action and knowing how to react is as important or more important.

Firstly, take a step back, take a breath, don't respond right away. Your first reaction is likely going to be the wrong one. After a deep breath I use this line.

"Thank you for spending time with me. I wish you well in your search for someone special." - end

Now the crux of the matter. Will you ever meet someone like them again?

Yes and no. Technically everyone is unique, different, and interesting. So you won't meet that exact person again. But, you will meet someone you have an attraction to that is as strong or even stronger.

Every person is unique, different, and interesting. The hard truth is that you will never meet someone like them again and that is okay.

It isn't easy to make the decision to stop seeing someone. And, it takes a lot of ovaries or balls to actually tell someone that directly too! So, respect that. Seriously! Do NOT attempt to get them to reconsider.

And to that I say, you won't.

But first, how do you deal with it in the immediate moment?

I say these words

Buuuuuuut, that doesn't stop me from protecting myself emotionally. My reaction afterward is fast. after that is fast, swift, and simple. Unfriend on any social media, delete phone number, and depending, block them on social media. Respect their decision.
