That's it, the great moment had arrived, on the altar was lying a poor sick puppy who would serve as their sacrifice. Maria and her disciples had begun the ceremony, the invocations resounded in the underground, Maria, a dagger in her hand impregnated with the atmosphere, she felt her heart beat to break everything in her chest. the energies swirling around her. She waved the dagger, and then it fell on the poor beast. She watched him agonize for a moment before turning off completely. The minutes passed without anything happening, they exchanged looks disappointed but did not dare to speak or even move. Maria put the dagger on the altar and turned back to her disciples to officially tell them of the failure but a powerful red light sprang up behind her accompanied by a putrid smell. She turned around and saw a silhouette drawn inside the light. The demon finally appeared, she could hardly distinguish him because of the light but guessed that he was of humanoid form, was about 1m90 tall and was dressed in a kind of toga.
His voice echoed in the room:
- "Who dares disturb me, I am Minos, judge and guardian of the second circle of hell, who dares disturb me! »
- Sei... Lord Minos, I..." Maria stammered as she tried to control her fear of the demon.
But she did not have the leisure to go further because tentacles sprang at her feet and embraced her firmly, literally lifting her from the ground.
Minos' voice was heard again:
- Shut up, human! Your judgment begins! »
The tentacles tightened around her, crushing her wrists, ankles, waist, chest and even wrapping around her neck. She felt many of her bones crack under the pressure of those dry, rough tentacles that were squeezing her more and more and preventing her from moving. Soon she found herself totally immobilized, exposed in front of her executioner.
Behind her friends, tears in her eyes were petrified with fear and unable to move while Minos stood in front of her. The light was gone and now she could clearly see it.
He was dry and emaciated, his skin grey and dark like an old leather, the upper part of his face was much lighter and marked a clear demarcation with the rest of his body, as if we had sewn together 2 fabrics of different color, his eyes were incandescent red, his wide mouth displayed a wide smile that let appear his sharp teeth and made him even more frightening.
As he approached, he began his diatribe: "Human wretch, you summoned me to obtain my power and what do you offer me in return? A simple dog! What a poor offering. What do you take me for? I am the great Minos, judge of the underworld, you deserve death a thousand times, perhaps I should take your soul as compensation for this affront, or those of your comrades, or even make you the toys of the demons of the circle of lust? Yes, it would be delectable... But on the other hand, I am well obliged to admit that you possess a certain potential, it would be regrettable not to exploit it... I will therefore show extreme mercy and grant you the powers that you covet so much... I will offer you one of my servants, it will be the perfect reflection of your soul...".
Maria may have struggled, she couldn't escape the embrace of the tentacles, Minos' face was now a few centimetres from hers, he stared straight into her eyes and seemed to scan the depths of her soul. He grabs her by the chin and forces her to look him in the eye.
- Let me see who you really are, show me what your fears are, your secret desires, the darkness that hides in you and waits only for a stroke of fate to manifest itself..."
Maria tried to escape her gaze, to close her eyes, but the tentacles tightened more on her, notching her skin. The pain made her open her eyes, she crossed Minos' gaze and could not detach herself from it... She was frozen, unable to move the slightest muscle or emit the slightest sound, as if captivated by the gaze of the demon.
Minos' voice was heard again: "I see the fury of the embers and the vivacity of the serpent, so your ideal companion will be... the salamander...". Hardly had he pronounced his judgment that from his hand sprang a flame that gradually took the shape of a salamander. The creature floating above Minos' hand suddenly seemed to awaken, shaking her head, then rushed towards Maria, still paralyzed. The salamander entered her mouth, she felt it go down inside her throat, she had the impression of suffocating. The creature stopped inside his belly. She felt an intense heat spreading inside her. She felt the creature melt into her. Her whole body was hurting, she had never felt such pain. She gradually felt unconscious.
But as her consciousness faded, Minos warned her one last time before she disappeared: "Feed the salamander with souls and blood and she will lend you her power, otherwise she will devour you from within and reborn you as a true demon from the underworld! Such is the pact that binds us now, you are now one of us and that for eternity..."
When she woke up, Maria was no longer the same, her eyes had become red and she felt an immense power inside her, far beyond what she had imagined. She felt invincible and couldn't resist testing them for long. She was now able to handle fire as she pleased. But this exhilarating feeling of power was soon followed by pain and fear.
Every time she resorted to this power, the salamander agitated in her and claimed her due. Her whole body burned her, her hair sometimes took on an orange hue, scales even began to appear on her skin. These symptoms were temporary but lasted longer and longer with each use.
Her friends looked at her differently, she clearly felt the fear they had for her.
She moved away from the circle of roses to devote herself to research on how to tame the demon, to escape this pact that risked killing her.
