No matter how far he ran, he could still hear them.
No matter how much distance he put between himself and the little village he could still see her.
The girl whose life he stole with just a whizz of his sword. A child who had their whole future laid ahead of them. Sure, perhaps it may not have been set to be the most luxurious but she would be alive.
His legs carried him to the edge of the forest, only stopping as his feet forgot how to move momentarily and he tripped over a rock.
Figures.
With a hiss of pain at the growing stinging to his banged up ankle, without picking up his feet once again he started up. This time his destination was set on the riverbank beside a waterfall and a small pond.
Given a different situation, maybe he could have enjoyed the scenery more. Instead, Vayne lowered himself to the ground and curled in on himself.
To anyone else, it might have been amusing to see a grown man in a fetal position as such. The added tears threatening to break free of his eyes surely wouldn't help with that either.
Call it bad luck, or a stroke of good, but after a while of silence, staring at the river; earlier scene rushing through his mind, a rustle of some nearby bushes startled him. A few moments of mumbled cursing as the form fumbled their way through the brush, they appeared with cuts now scattered across the body; somehow vaguely matching his own.
It was….Yuki.
After taking one quick peek, Vayne quickly retreated his head back into the cocoon he created. If he saw him like this, what would he think? He chuckled softly while burrowing deeper into his arms. He'd probably laugh first, ask questions after.
It was the kind of person the Vesperian was.
One minute flew by. No movement or noise was spoken or given between them. Neither of them were entirely sure how to handle this.
A moment flew by and Vayne decided it was time to speak. "You can laugh, you know. Or ask a question. Whatever it is you wish I-"
Before he was able to finish, loud, rushed footsteps rumbled beside him. He lifted his head ever so slightly to see his new companion settle to the ground beside.
"I won't laugh. What kind of person do you think I am?" Yuki shot a glare. To which out of reflex, Vayne shot his arms up in surrender.
"It matter not the kind of person you are. You see an enemy in front of you bearing cuts and tears. Is it not your first reaction to laugh?" Honestly, he was a little shocked. Only a little for he knew the personality of the prince, but he was not used to people in general. He only knew what Ren had taught him.
Yuki's eyes narrowed, he frowned and crossed his arms. "I'd say I would beat you up for that….yet it looks like nature did that for me." To this, he let out a chuckle. One that lifted his spirits even if only a little. He needed that.
In return, he found the energy and will to return the favor with his own retort. "I could say the same to you."
This was rewarded with an irritated huff.
"Will you tell me why you're out here in the middle of nowhere? And why I saw you running like a maiden in distress?" The pale prince widely grinned.
"You wound me. I...may be willing to tell you. If you'd listen." Turning his head to the side, Vayne bit his lip and made an attempt to rise from where he sat. As soon as he stood he came tumbling down again. "Shit…" He cursed under his breath. His ankle, he must have hurt it on the run. Possibly even when he had tripped. 'You fool.'
Before he landed flat on the ground, the other prince rested a hand to his back and held him up. They were similar in height, so as he was helped up and over to a nearby rock to perch on, Yuki found little trouble in assisting.
With a swift yank, Yuki lifted the fabric covering Vayne's ankle and inspected. "You probably sprained it. You idiot."
"I know…"
"You won't be able to make it back alone."
"This I also know." Harsh but true. Vayne sighed and leaned forward to make an attempt to pull the fabric back down. "If I start now, perhaps they will not notice."
It was only an attempt, for Yuki rather roughly grasped Vayne's ankle, receiving a gasp of pain. "You won't even make it halfway."
With a sigh, the ravenet kept calm and palm steady where he held it against the sprain. From what Vayne had remembered hearing, it had been roughly a year since this prince was able to sport magic of any kind.
If this was so then how…
What was this bright light emitting from his palm?
What was this warmth flowing into his flesh? Seemingly and slowly relieving him of his pain. As time passed, the warmth even spread from his ankle up towards the rest of his body. Within no time there was no sign of cuts or bruises or any kind.
Vayne loudly gasped, reached forward and clasped his hands around the other's. "Yuki! Thank you! I-Ive never seen such-That was amazing!" His pupils were wide in amazement.
Yuki himself seemed to be out of it for a moment until he was shaken and brought back to reality. "I can't believe I did that...it's been so long…" He sighed.
From what Vayne knew of Vesperians, healing only exhausted mana from the body, which could easily be replenished with rest. So rest he would give. Sliding down on the rock so he was no longer sitting atop it, Vayne rested his back against it. Then he offered a hand to help his now tired companion down beside him.
"Think of me as not myself, but a pillow and rest." He figured it was the easiest way to help the other sleep. For all he knew, he was still hated.
Hated...would you do something so extravagant for someone you disliked?
Was he just being nice because Ryu would have wished it?
Why couldn't things just be simple.
Another sigh and Vayne turned his head to the right, ready to outright ask Yuki why he did this. However he was only met with his peaceful, resting face.
Maybe he should just relax and worry about that another time.
