Later, at the festival.
Jay opened his eyes and sat up, looking around before getting up and dusting himself up. He walked over to May, who was leaning against a wall. By that time, the rest of the participants had already made their way back to the auditorium, other students beginning to fill the seats.
Jay noticed the small weapon rack near the entrance and took May's hand before beginning to go over to it. Jay looked among the weapons before picking up a metal bat.
"This should work. Shouldn't it?" He asked as he looked at his sister, she nodded with an eager expression. He gave her a smile before the speakers turned on, his heart dropping.
"Good afternoon! I hope you all are ready for the first festival!!" Emily's energetic voice boomed over the speakers. The cheers and excitement from spectating students filled the area ecstatic with energy. "Why are these people so excited for this?" Jay asked himself.
Jay looked around in the seats, not seeing where she would be. It wasn't until May tugged on his shoulder that he turned around and saw the massive elevated seats, each council member sitting in their own. Emily and Illaden were sitting in the tallest seats, a microphone in Emily's hand as she sat.
"Ladies and gentlemen, welcome to the first festival of the school year!" As she spoke, the students in the crowd cheered and clapped eager for what she had to say next.
"All students participating know the rules so let's not waste any time with those. The match will not go longer than thirty minutes. After those thirty minutes, if there is more than one student standing then the council will decide the winner. "Without further adieu.." She paused.
"Begin!" Emily yelled with an eunthusiastic tone as she sat down.
As soon of the words left her mouth, the students all at once began to go at each other. Right away, Jay backed away from the rest of them with fear in his eyes, watching at the other students tore into each other.
May made sure to say next to him as she watched the ground go from a light brown to dark crimson and as the bodies began to drop. As the bodies dropped, Emily began to call out names, some students making their way to the walls.
May noticed that someone was running to them quickly. As they got closer, she quickly got in front of Jay as the student came up to her, knocking both her and her brother down with what looked like a large mallet, May dropped her daggers and laid in the ground, not moving. Jay groaned softly as he looked up, seeing his sister laying still in front of him.
The student, however, stood in front of him with a sickening grin as they raised their mallet. Jay closed his eyes but soon opened them when the mallet never came down. Jay opened his eyes to see the student with a hatchet deep in the side of their neck.
The hatched was taken out as the student dropped their mallet, blood spurting from their neck. Jay looked up to see Angel stained in blood with the hatchet in his hand, bringing it to his mouth before licking the blade. Jay gave a small smile but it soon dropped as Angel looked down at him, his eyes void of all humanity as he raised his hatchets.
May's eyes slowly opened as she raised her head. She quickly came to her senses as she remembered what had happened, seeing that Angel was standing over her brother. With shaking legs she stood up and grabbed one of her daggers and gripped it tightly before taking a sprint at Angel.
"You know, my dad writes to me almost everyday telling me how proud he is of me. He's going to love it when I tell him about his!" Angel exclaimed before going to swing down.
He stopped when he felt a sharp and harsh pain in his side, letting out a loud scream. May quickly pulled the tip of her dagger out of his side and hit him with the pommel of her dagger, causing him to fall over while screaming in pain. May quickly looked over at her brother and pointed to the wall.
"Jay Williams, you have touched the ground twice. Please make your way to the nearest wall, you have been disqualified or we will have someone escort you out." Emily's voice rang through the auditorium, an un-amused tone in her voice.
Jay hesitated before going to the wall, putting his hand on it. May gave him a small smile before it went away, facing Angel as he stood up with shaky breaths. When he faced her, he gave her a wide grin.
"Now we're cooking. I-I was wondering when you were going to show me...What you got." Angel said through gritted teeth but May didn't listen.
Angel stood still for a second before running at her, taking a swing. May held her dagger up as he did, the two weapons clanging together as they hit. May took a step back before she thrusted her dagger forward at his face, the dagger barely cutting his cheek. Angel saw the opening she had and swing his hatchet, it slicing across her stomach.
Her eyes went wide in pain and recoiled back but as she did, Angel hit the side of her head with the back of his hatchet, causing her to fall to the ground, holding her head in pain. Angel let out a small sigh and walked over to her.
"Such a shame that you'll never be able to expand on your training. You showed such promise." Angel told her and took a step forward, dropping his hatchet.
He picked up one of her daggers and held the blade over her head but stopped when the speakers turned on.
"May Williams has fallen twice, making her disqualified. Angel Cupidon is the winner of the first festival." Tenma's calm voice came over the speakers.
"What?!" Angel yelled out. "You aren't even going to let me kill her?!" He yelled back and there was a moment of silence.
"There is no need to, you won. Take your victory or it goes to her." Tenma said in a somewhat irritated tone. Angel let out what sounded like a growl before tossing her dagger to the side, picking his hatchet up before walking to the exit.
"And that concludes the first festival of the year! Congratulations to all who participated and survived! If you can, make your way to the nurses office to have your wounds treated. If you are not able to move then please wait and someone will be with you shortly to help you." Emily's voice was the next to be heard before the speakers turned off.
Jay got away from the wall and went over to May who was still holding her head, tears going down her face. Jay got down and picked her up carefully, carrying her bridal style back inside. He quickly made his way to the nurses office but once he got in he noticed she wasn't in there. Jay sat her down on one of the beds and waited next to her.
"Why didn't you tell me you knew how to fight?" He asked her as he glanced at her. "Was it dad? Did he tell you not to? Or was it because you didn't want me to be upset?" He asked with a hint of anger in his voice, May looking at him as she blinked away her tears.
The door opened and a woman with long black hair and what looked like casual clothes walked in, Emily and Illaden standing by the door.
"Hello, I'm the school Nurse, Mrs. Sherry. I'm going to need you to please leave so I can take a closer look at her." The woman said with a smile and Jay nodded quickly, leaving and closing the door behind him before letting out a sigh.
"Hello, Jay." Emily said with a smile as he turned around. "I want to personally congratulate you and your sister you surviving. I would like to remind you that you and your sister can go to the local town outside of school. Its a long bus ride but I think it would be a nice treat after this. Also, I would find Tenma and thank him. He saved your sister, after all." She told his before waving, Illaden patted Jays shoulder, a small smile on his lips. Jay watched as the two made their way down the hall.
Jay waited out the door, sitting in one of the waiting chairs. A familiar boy walked up. "H-Hey, Jay!" He looked up to see Hidan standing there with a smile on his face.
"Hidan?" Jay asked and he nodded. "I-Is she o-okay?" Hidan asked in a somewhat worried tone, the look of pitty written on his face. Jay
"I believe so. If it weren't for Tenma, she would be more than not okay." Jay responded. "Y-Yeah. Well, I h-hope she he-heals fast." Hidan mumbled before he let out a sigh. "W-Well I have to go now." He's said as he turned, giving a small wave before walking off. "Take care, Hidan." Jay responded as he watched his leave.
Jay for a bit, before Mrs. Sherry opened the door with a smile. "Hey there, She's ready to go back to her dorm." She said as she stepped to the side, May walking out with a new uniform on and a few bandages on her.
"Thank you very much." Jay told her before he took May's hand and began to walk. They walked back to their dorm room before Jay sighed heavily, laying back on his bed. May laid down as well and looked at her brother, who got up again.
"I'll be right back." he told her before leaving the room. Jay walked around the school for a bit until he found Doku.
"Hey, Doku!" Jay called out and she turned around, giving him a smile. "Yes? What can I do for you?" She asked with a tilted head.
"Who would I talk to about going out to town?" Jay asked in return.
"You want to go to town? Doku asked as she smiled at Jay. "Yes. I thought it would do May some good to get some fresh air out in town." Jay told her as he returned the smile.
"I can get you a bus ticket along with some spending money while you're out in no time," Doku told him as she held her hands together. "Spending money? Does the school really have that much funding?" Jay asked and she let out a small laugh.
"Of course not. Our wonderful council President is so generous enough to supply money for our lovely students so that they may enjoy themselves in town.
"She told him as she turned, beginning to walk. He quickly began to follow her.
"So, How long has Emily been here?" He asked with slight hesitation. "Three years counting this one. Unfortunately, she will be leaving at the end of this one." She told him as she glanced back at him.
"It will be a shame when she leaves. No offense to Illaden, but he can be a stick in the mud sometimes." She said in a friendly tone, making Jay smile a bit.
"So when do they normally go through the voting process?" He asked her as they got to a room. Doku opened the door to reveal a small office. She went to the desk at the other end of the room and took a seat before opening a small pink laptop with flower stickers decorating it.
"We don't have a voting process. The principal thought it would take up too much of the students time. We didn't come here for normal school life, we came here to learn how to succeed in life." Doku explained as she began to type away on her laptop.
"Then, how do you determine a president?" Jay asked, a bit surprised. "Whoever is the vice at the time becomes the president next year. Then they choose a vice and the chain goes on." She said with a large smile as she looked up at him.
"But, what if someone doesn't like how the President is operating?" He asked as he took a seat in one of the chairs in front of her desk. "That's easy. You challenge the current President to a battle. If you can somehow manage to kill them or make them surrender then you become the President on the spot." She told him before tilting her head a bit. "Why do you ask?" She asked and Jay quickly began to look around.
"I-I was just wanting to know. It seemed a little odd that you didn't have a system." He explained to her and she let out a small giggle. "I see. I'm glad they have it that way, though. If they didn't, Emily wouldn't be in office right now." She told him but she continued before Jay could say anything.
"The school was so boring when the other president was in office. When she killed him, it was the greatest day of this school. She put in the clubs and the festivals and gave me this wonderful job! Not to mention she removed the old council members and put us in with her. I truly owe a lot to her." Doku said with a pleased sigh before looking back at her computer. A few minutes later she closed her laptop and gave him a big smile.
"Alright, I'll have everything you need in just a minute. As for now, you can just wait in here." She said before she got up, leaving the room. Jay sat there, mindlessly looking around the small office.
The walls had large flower stickers decorating them. He looked at her desk and saw a small picture frame that seemed to be out of place. Jay leaned forward and picked it up, messing around with the back until there was a small click, letting him know it was fixed. He turned the frame around to see what looked like a family picture. A mother and a father with three children, the youngest being the only one that had the mother's blonde hair. Soon, the sound of the door opening made Jay freeze.
"Alright, I got your..." Doku's voice came to a slow end as she got to her desk. He quickly put it back on the desk, holding his hands in his lap. "You fixed it?" She asked as she picked it up after setting an envelope on the desk.
"Y-Yeah..." He mumbled timidly before looking up a bit, surprised to see Doku smiling at the picture. "Thank you. I was worried I broke it. I always got complimented when I was a kid for having my mother's hair color. I was the only one out of my two other siblings to get it." She spoke in a soft and soothing tone. "We used to be so happy..."
Jay raised his head completely, looking at her. "What happened?" He asked with curiosity in his voice. "My siblings kicked the bucket a bit too early. But, anyway. When you get this, you will go to your room and wait until I come and get you. After that I will escort you to the bus stop, where you will meet the council member who will be accompanying you." She said as she set the picture down and picked the envelope up again.
She got a red pen and wrote something on it before handing it to Jay. "Thanks, Doku." Jay said with a large smile. "You're quite welcome. Is there anything else you need?" She asked and he nodded eagerly.
"Where do you get your flowers?" He asked as he stood up. "I get most of my plants from the flower shop in town." She explained to him before Jay nodded and left. Jay held the envelope close as he made his way back to his room. Once he got there, he quickly closed the door and locked it, a bright smile on his face.
He set the envelope on his bed and looked over at May, who had a confused expression on her face. "Change out of your uniform. We are going out." He told her as he began to look through his dresser. May got up and began looking as well before going to the bathroom to change.
