Meow~
There it is, under one of the benches was a little black cat. I crouched to have a closer look; it is dark here, so it’s hard to see.
“What is there?”, Oliver asked with his phone in hand, starting the flashlight app. It was more visible.
“Aww it’s a cat. So cute but it doesn’t seem alright.”, Isa was right, the cat was in pain or something. It did not try to run away so something was off. I reached slowly to touch the cat and of course I got scratched, not only lightly but kind off bad.
Oliver dislikes the sight of blood so he covered his eyes and said: “Tristan let the cat be. I think it doesn’t want any help.”
“Yeah Oli is right. Your hand is injured pretty badly. Let the cat be even if it is pretty cute.”
They say that with good intentions but I love animals too much to let them be in pain. What they don’t know, how could they, is that cats especially black cats are kind of sacred for us witches. Long story short the first witch had a black cat as familiar.
“No can do. So, listen you little bitch I’m here to help you so cooperate.”, I say to the black cat (I know weird right) and with a fast swoop I pick the cat up and hold them on my arm.
Oliver facepalmed and Isabelle just shook her head. “You do what ever you want.”, she commented. I can’t deny that.
We sat down and I carefully placed the kitty on my lap. “Can you put your flashlight on the cat again?”, Oliver did so. Strangely the cat seemed to really cooperate now what made things a lot easier for me.
“Looks like the left front paw is injured, no wonder the cat was aggressive. I would have been too.”
“But what do we do know? No vet is open at this hour and we can’t let the cat kitty stay outside like that.”, I don’t know how but Isa got attached pretty fast.
“First, Tris wipe of the blood it looks horrible. Are you alright?”, Oliver was as disgusted as ever. He once told me that the sight of large amounts of blood triggers him, I wiped it away with a handkerchief I had in my little fanny bag.
“I’m good, no need to worry. Isa is right, we can’t leave the kitty here alone. This is the perfect opportunity to tell you guys something- I.”, I got interrupted by a loud meow followed by a paw touching my right hand, the hand that was scratched.
“Okay I guess it can wait, just let me show you really quick. Alright baby don’t be scared. You will feel good again soon.” The last part was directed to the cat on my lap. The others just looked at me as if I went crazy and that wouldn’t change by what I was about to do.
I looked around briefly to check if there was anyone else in the park, there wasn’t. I looked up to the clear moon that was slightly covered with clouds, then I closed my eyes and placed the right hand softly on the cats injured paw. My left hand started to draw a pentagram in the air ( hope t works without a real ground to draw on) and with a chanting way I speak the a spell of healing in Latin. I just really hope that the moon will give me enough power to heal the cat completely.
I can’t really see what the others are doing but I imagine that Isa is sitting there all fascinated and Oli is freaking out. I suppose the spell is working because I hear a soft wow, a confirmation that the spell is working. If the spell is successful the healing hand starts to glow in a cool blue light.
The procedure is done and I take a deep breath while slowly opening my eyes. The cat seemed all good now and I caressed it softly. “See, everything is good now. You are free to go.” The cat takes me by my word and stands carefully up testing if the paw is really healed, it looks like it really is healed. The cat meows again and licks over my injured hand, the three cuts burn a bit but feel a bit better afterwards. I looked at my hand and when I wanted to look for the cat again, it was gone.
Now I had no excuse to speak to my two best friends. Hope this goes well.
It is a common thing for witches to tell their human friends of them, there is no rule that would prohibit that. It is a lot easier for a witch when you have friends that you don’t need to hide your true being but not every human takes it well. For the case that the human will react negatively, a spell was created to erase the memory from the whole last hour.
I really, really hope I don’t need to use it.
I look up to see the faces of both. I’m scared. The darkness made it harder to see the faces but one thing was sure, I had no reason to be afraid.
“TRISTAN THAT WAS AMAZING!”, was the only sentence that Isabelle could say, or rather scream in all excitement. What I saw from her looked exactly like a child that saw a real unicorn. Surprisingly Oliver was the same, just not so loud. Both tried to ask me questions but they didn’t give me a chance to answer them until-
“So, you are a wizard or something like that?”, Oliver asked without bad intention but I couldn’t help feel offended by that. I really had to gather strength to not loose my cool but instead to educate him.
“Let me talk guys. First thing is, I’m a witch. Not a wizard.”, I got interrupted again, this time from Isabelle.
“What is the difference?”
“The difference is that most wizards are trash and offensive, I was raised a witch from a long line of witches. It is really rude to call me a wizard.”, I know that they are just curious and they don’t know better but please don’t be so stupid and let me talk.
“Aren’t witches female tho?”, is Oliver for real? I’m seriously about to snap. I need to remind myself that they don’t know better, I take a deep breath, a really deep breath before I start to talk again. Both look at me with innocence in their eyes, it helps me to calm down.
“Actually, yes they are female but I’m not. I am an exception to this rule. Normally if a boy is born into a witches family they don’t have the ability to use magic but I do, so I was raised as a witch. That is basically all I know myself. And I would appreciate it if you would never in your life time call me a wizard again, or question me being a witch.”, damn now I did it. At the end I did snap a bit, I was told that I was quite scary when angered but I never believed it, till now. They look like chicken. The sight made me feel bad, I overreacted.
“err... sorry guys. I didn’t mean it like that.”, I tried to apologize. Instead both of them looked at me and apologized individually. “I’m sorry for being so unsensitive and thank you for sharing such a beautiful thing with us.”, it is rare to hear such sincere words from Oliver. I smiled at him and before I could answer, arms wrapped around me, it was Isabelle. I know she is bad with apologies. But a simple I’m sorry was everything I needed and she gave me that right away, while hiding her head on my shoulder.
We spent a bit of time in that hug while Oliver asked me lots of questions, like the magic spells I use, if the TV stuff is right or if we worship Lucifer.
“Funny thing about the whole Lucifer thing is that I personally and my line don’t worship him. The funny part is that my cousin does worship him and is a strong believer of Lucifer. Luckily, it’s really a small percentage that goes into that direction. By the way what time do we have right now? I need to be at home around 2.”
“Let me check. Oh boy good thing you asked, if we go now, we will make it right on time for you.”, Oliver said looking at his phone with squirting eyes, the light was to much for me and I wasn’t looking directly into it. I can’t imagine how that must have hurt.
“Alright, thanks.”, I stand up and both agree, without asking me of course, to bring me home first. We started walking, luckily it was just a walk of 10 minutes.
“Why do you need to be home so early? You are always the last one to go at parties.”, Isa asked curious, she wore Oliver’s jacked, she was cold.
“It’s because today is a special night. It is the night of my familiar ceremony.”, I keep on explaining to them what a familiar is and how it may affect my future from now on. They listened all fascinated and I think that is so adorable. I love them so much.
We arrived, I asked them if they wanted to maybe stay the night in my house, I trusted them enough to stay alone for an hour or two at my home but both declined. “Really kind of you but I need to work tomorrow morning, I will take the offer some other time honey.”, Isa replies and Oliver just agrees to that. A man of few words. I give both of them a big hug and a warm scarf, it really got chilly outside. “Take care Tris, make sure to introduce us to your familiar later.”, Oliver screamed from across the street while they were going, with a big waving hand and a whisper at familiar. He sure is stupid.
I’m glad everything went well up till now.
“Tristan you are here. Perfect! Get ready you have 10 minutes then we need to go.”, my sweet sweet mother being a typical mother.
