The Only Thing I Did Wrong

June Harrison

June Harrison

Jul 29, 2019

“Hello Mr. McKeon, I am June Harrison. I was the one who applied for the acting job.” A pretty blonde, who was in her early twenties said. Taking a seat at the table David was sitting.

“Hello Ms. Harrison, please have a seat,” I replied, stretching my hand out to give a handshake. June was a bright girl, she was 22, blonde and have a beautiful smile. Her use of make up made it seem natural, and the fashion was on point. It seems like she puts much care into herself, which I hope would be a great asset.

“I read the offer online and was interested in the job,” she said while shaking my hand with a gleeful smile that made her eyes light up. She seems to have this quality that attract your eyes to her. “Ah, that is great news. I was hoping to find someone quick and you are a lifesaver right now.” I replied, giving a sigh of relief inside. The sooner the better was all I could think of.

“I read on the job post that you were looking for an inspiring actress and will be paid in full after the job?” She said sitting upright and focusing on me, giving me her full attention. It seems like she pretty used to interview because I didn’t hear no hesitation in her voice.

I smile and answer “Yes you will be, I must tell you that it is a serious job and that you cannot quit at any moment.”

“What is the job?” She asks, seemly giving a uncertain expression now from my response. I took a deep breath and said, “I want you to help me cheat on my wife.” She was taken back and had a disgusted look on her face. She was about to storm off before I grab her hand. “If you don’t let go of me this moment I will scream for help,” she said angrily trying to break free from my grip.

“Sorry I worded it wrong, I wanted to you act with me and make it seem like I am cheating on my wife.” I said nervously. “I have a reason for it, so can you hear me out?” She was glaring at me, but I guess for the heck of it she hears me out.

So, I proceed to tell her about my selfish plan to cheat on my wife to her. She was to pose as the younger girl that I am seeing on the side. I will make it so that Vanessa will find out about this and end our marriage with her own hand. If I don’t do this then I will just leave her stranded with no one to put her anger on. June sat there listening to my plan, of course I had to tell her about my illness. She sat there with teary eyes; she was trying her best not to cry all I could do for this poor girl was give her my handkerchief.

“So, Ms. Harrison, would you like to take this job offer?” I said hoping that she would since she seems like she would try her best. Still sniffling a bit, she took a deep breath and was in her thought for a moment before she replies, “Can you give me a day to think about this?”

My eyes lit up as I heard her replied. “Yes, I can certainly do a day. Please call me tomorrow when you have an answer,” I excitedly answers, I was just happy that she is even considering it. This was a lot to ask for from such a young person, just that at the moment I didn’t think of that.

I paid for her coffee and we said our goodbyes. I still had many things to do so the day was still fill with many things. First, I needed to inform my company that I plan to resign in 6-month time or sooner depending on how the cancer acting. Also, I need to make sure Tyreese can do what I ask of him. If June accepts this job then everything will be coming into place. The hardest part just might be Vanessa parents.

It is still something that I regret to this day, it was because of me she lost her parents from disowning her from an out of marriage pregnancy. Her father never really liked me, and I heard that Vanessa was beckon many times to break up with me. So, the sooner I get them back into Vanessa life the better. Jason was the one we keep in touch in so I must give him a call soon. Knowing him he probably helps me, and he will be another one to suffer in my selfishness. He might be reluctant a bit, since he also has a rocky relationship with his father.

The next morning, I got a call from June, this was a start of the plan hopefully she accepts was all I could think of. It was unusual to get a call so early for me, before Vanessa could get my phone, I had already gotten it and answer it.

“Hello Mr. McKeon?” she shyly said. “Yes Mr. McKeon is speaking.” I confidently answers acting like it was a business call. “It’s June Harrison from yesterday. I thought long and hard about it and… I will be accepting the job.” She said with a bit hesitation. Hearing her answer, I was about to jump in joy but not wanting to make too much suspicion to soon I casually answer “That is great news. We will talk more about this when I get to the office. Goodbye,” as I hung up the phone.

“Who was that honey?” Vanessa ask still half asleep. “Oh, just someone from work,” I said standing up and going to the bathroom. She trusted me a lot and never in her life would think that I cheat on her and didn’t bother to question me more. What a lucky bastard I was for finding someone like her, and I had to do her like this.

After work I went to meet June; we made plans to meet again at the same café as before. She was there before me and was sipping her coffee. “Hello, Ms. Harrison, did I keep you waiting?” I said grabbing a seat. “Oh no you didn’t Mr. McKeon,” she said putting her coffee down. I sat across from her and order a coffee before saying, “It is great that you are willing to take this job thank you.” Waving her hand, she answers “Oh no problem, I just hope that I can do a good job.”

“Don’t worry, you will,” I said grasping her hand. She quickly removes her hand back “What are you doing?” I gave her a clueless look thinking it should be a norm if she took the job offer and answers “Well we have to have a little skinship between us, right? If we are going to play fake lovers?”

“Umm that is true, but please give me some time to get into character,” she said not putting her hand back onto the table. I look at her wondering to myself, “I thought that an aspiring actress would already be used to this type of skinship, but it is fine we still had a month to go before we start the plan.” After going through the plan with her we went our separate ways and will meet again after two days.
