I woke up with a harsh ringing in my ears. I sat up slowly despite there being a pain in my chest. It wasn't my heart hurting but it felt like somewhere directly on it was. What was this?
"Taylor?" I looked to my right to see Collin sitting down in a chair with a concerned gaze.
"Hey," I said as if I didn't pass out, "So, where am I?"
"Nurse's office," Lucas said some the other side of the bed, "Nurse left to go to see Principal Hawk about something." I looked at him and saw a small silver table with a bottle of medicine. I'll have to ask Lucas about that later.
With a glimmer of hope, I spoke as confidently as I could, " Look at the birds! The birds, so high. Oh, birds will you teach me to fly?"
Just like that, I was floating in the air. I spread my arms out like an eagle and soared throughout the room. Luckily, no one else was here so I could fly whenever.
"Taylor, get down before someone sees you!" Lucas growled out lowly while Collin, on the other hand, was watching in amazement.
I felt like a magical girl!
Suddenly the doors opened and Mr. Channing came limping in. It was obvious he hurt his leg somehow but the cause wasn't clear.
I decided to test out my magic again, "While I still can fly, make me invisible to the average eye."
Collin glanced up worriedly searching for me but to no avail. I grinned with happiness but was quickly hit with some realization.
If Mr. Channing was actually magical then he would be able to see me.
I dived behind a curtain as Mr. Channing spoke to my friends.
"I heard that Ms. Thompson fainted. Is this true?" He asked softly as if I were still in the room. I couldn't help but feel a little happy. He was worried about me...
I shook my head to clear my odd thoughts. It was probably because of the medicine.
"Yeah. Nurse says that it's probably due to stress. " Lucas answered and I stifled a chuckle. He sounded so...serious.
"Oh, where is Taylor right now?" Mr. Channing inquired.
"Oh, she, uh-" Collin stammered and I wanted to smack. Just make up some dumb excuse!
"No longer can I fly, but I am not shy," I whispered feeling a rush of cold air blow in the air.
Before the two of them could embarrass themselves I moved the curtain.
"Yo!" I exclaimed sitting back down on my bed.
"Where did you go?" Mr. Channing questioned with a raised eyebrow.
"None of your business, Mr. Eyebrows," I snapped and Lucas snickered.
"Mr. Eyebrows?" He repeated sounding hurt while Collin was dying from laughter.
"Your eyebrows are so hairy that they put a yeti to shame," I retorted and Lucas choked.
"Do you want detention, Ms. Thompson?" He asked glaring.
"As long as I'm not near those caterpillars," I said pointing to his eyebrows. His eyebrows aren't actually that big and hairy but he didn't need to know that.
'Detention, it is then," He concluded pulling a notepad and pen. He began scribbling things down but before he could finish we all raced out the doors.
"Here, Mr. Channing!" Collin called out before throwing Leo to Mr. Channing.
Then we sprinted through the mostly empty hallways with our book bags in hand.
