VETERAN AND WIFE AMONG THOSE FOUND DEAD IN IDYLLIC TOWNHOME
Sunday 23rd March 2025
The town of ValleySprings in Enugu woke up to horrible news on Saturday. Nnamdi Obinna, one of the neighbours, had noticed a terrible smell while walking his dog at 6 AM. The dog itself refused to move close to the house and cowered as it got close to it. Thinking his neighbours had left trash in their house for too long, Mr Obinna ignored it. Then he noticed it was a lot stronger than just trash and it was coming from their garden house, so he decided to investigate. Mr Obinna has been taken to the hospital after being "rather shaken up" by what he'd seen. Dr and Mrs Ikechukwu were found dead in their garden house, sources say.
Dr Richard Kendrick Ikechukwu, aged 32, was a veteran in the Great Cardinal war between the Hausa regions of the north and the Yoruba regions of the south. He was awarded a Medal of Honor for dutiful service despite multiple head injuries from the battlefield. He was also a former professor at the University of Enugu as well as a Research Director at the Hope Alliance Foundation in Enugu. His wife, Evelyn Adaobi Ikechukwu, aged 39, was an accountant at Jakporo, a non-profit organization run by the Hope Alliance.
"I have worked closely with Dr Ikechukwu and have met with his wife. Their work for us was meaningful to our organization and they will be missed" says Dr Elizabeth Steely in a letter written after news of the tragedy became public.
The bodies of the other 2 people found in the living room of the home have yet to be identified. According to internal sources, they were left in an unrecognizable state, and nothing that could have identified them, teeth, hair, fingerprints were found on their mangled bodies.
The bodies of their 14-year-old twins, Theresa and Kendrick Ikechukwu II, were never recovered. It is unknown if they are still alive. Police are still searching for their whereabouts.
Police officers involved with the case would not give any comment on suspects in the case.
