“Cloe!” she ran over and got on the other side of me. They both lifted me off the ground and rushed me over to the back of a truck. It was a black SUV and had fencing placed around it to prevent zombies from breaking fully into the truck if surrounded. I was sat in the very back and Alex and Sarah hopped in after me. I noticed someone open the door for Tom to hop inside. They closed the back and I noticed a few others get inside the truck. I noticed more zombies outside gather around us.
“Hand me an extra shirt from up front.” Sarah asked as she leaned over the back seats. There was a young female sitting in the back that turned around.
“So, this is your friend? She looks like she got bit. We already have enough issues with asking to go look for her. Now she is infected and in our vehicle.” She leaned forward still and grabbed a shirt from one of the males in the front. She handed it back to Sarah, “It was an ugly shirt anyway we found.” Sarah leaned back towards me and ripped the shirt in two. She carefully wrapped both legs up the best she could.
“This should help stop the bleeding till we get back to base.”
Alex touched my leg gently, “You got bit before in the leg. How did you not turn? We thought you were dead.”
“I have to thank you also for just leaving me behind.” I laughed as leaned against the back seat.
“She’s immune.” Sarah said softly to Alex, “We need to all talk when we get in private environment.”
The young female in the back seat turned around, “She’s immune?” Sarah sighed and pulled out her gun.
“If you say another work about what has just been said, I will personally kill you.” The young girl turned back around and looked out the window, “That goes for the people up front also. She was never bite. She had jumped a fence and scraped her legs up badly.” I turned to see the driver give a thumbs up and Alex laughed.
“That moment when everyone in the car is afraid of you.” Alex turned to look at Tom who had jumped in the back seat with the young female, “So, how did you end up with a dog?”
“I found him in a back room as I was trying to escape from that base. All the other dogs had turned.”
“Scary to think even animals were infected by this virus.” Alex sighed as she pets Tom on the head, “He is so well trained too it seems. You got lucky. He was the one who pulled Sarah into the alley. What did you name him?”
“His name is Tom.” I said as he licked Alex in the face.
“What a simple name.” Alex said as she became fully distracted by Tom.
The tires to the truck suddenly popped and the truck started to swerve when as the tires finally left the ground. The truck rolled a few times as everyone in the truck rolled around. When the truck stopped, I looked around to see Sara and Alex completely limp on the ground. I slowly sat up, as broken glass below me started to crack under my hands.
“Hey,” I crawled over to Sarah and nudged her a little. I leaned over and could hear a feint breath, “It’s going to be okay.” I coughed as some blood started to come up on my hand. I noticed the front of the truck was starting to smoke. I grabbed Sarah and Alex’s hand and started to pull them closer to the back window. The glass was completely shattered but still intact to the truck. I used my foot and kicked a few times to get it to start to break off. The glass finally shattered and I crawled my way out of the truck. As I did, I noticed a few people in front of me fully armored up.
“Looks like one is still moving.” One of the men yelled.
“Well, there can be no survivors. Kill her and blow up the trucks.”
“Wait!” a younger male ran over towards me and glanced at my legs, “She’s infected yet not like the others we have seen.” A large grin came across his face, “You should feel lucky. You get to live another day.” I couldn’t see their faces as one of the lifted up the bud of his gun.
“Don’t I know you?” I mumbled as the blurry face seemed to have a familiar voice. A voice that I had heard many times speaking with my Dad, “Dr. Baxter?” I watched as the bud finally struck me in the face and watched as everything went black.
