John pulled out his phone and called 911. All he heard was a beeping noise and hung up, “Seems like we can’t call 911 right now.” Ted walked over and turned on the tv that was hanging up in the upper corner of the room.
“As reports continue to pore in about people being attacked by others, we find ourselves barracking our studio from the outside. If you have not already, find somewhere safe, away from windows and stay in place. We repeat, do not go outside. Stay inside” The news caster seemed to look off the screen and screamed as she ran off screen.
“Hold the door!”
“They are pushing in.”
“Move that desk over here. Hurry!”
“Everyone push.”
Screaming and yelling could be heard over the camera as Ted turned off the tv again, “Well, at least we are in a room with no windows.”
“Smith walked in the camera’s room and everyone followed after. They looked to see a few people running through the store. They seemed to be bleeding from their mouths and large wounds on their body’s.
“How are they still walking around? They are losing so much blood. “Sara cried as she looked at all the screens.
“I don’t think that blood from their mouths, is theirs.” John said coldly.
Carol walked back into the break room and got into her bag. She pulled out a small bottle of pills and poured a few into her hand. She grabbed her water bottle that was also in her bag and took the few pills with the water.
“are you okay?” Sara asked as she walked over to Carol.
“I have a weak heart and stress doesn’t seem to help it at all.” She laughed as she took another sip of her water.
“How long does the backup power last?” John asked as he continued to watch the camera screens.
“I was told they last about twelve hours. That way we have enough time to repair the lights and not worry about the food going bad.”
“So, we have half a day to find out how to get out of this room?” John replied
“The news just said to stay in a place with no windows and avoid the outside.” Tim voiced up as he took a step towards John.
“When the power goes out, this room will start to heat up though. It is the summer time. I live in an apartment nearby on the 13th floor. I have a backup greater there also and enough food to last us a few weeks.”
“We have enough food here to last us a while. If we can sneak out, we can supply ourselves for a while. Maybe even get those things out of the store and barricade ourselves in the store.” Smith argued.
“If this attack is as bad as it is sounding, many are going to be coming here for food. Do you want to risk that maybe not all the people coming for food won’t be nice? You just mentioned family with Sara. Do you want her to be in between cross fire from other people doing desperate things for food?”
Smith bit his lip and looked at the screens again, “You can leave if you want but don’t act like you know Sara and what is best for her.”
“I agree with Smith. It isn’t smart to go outside.” Ted said as he stood next to Smith.
Sara sat down with Carol while the guys were talking inside the camera room. She noticed Carol starting to breath heavier, “Are you okay?”
“Yeah. I just feel hot right now.” Carol said as she removed her jacket.
Sara glanced down to see some blood now soaking through Carols sleeve and paused, “You’re really bleeding.” Sara grabbed Carols arm and pulled the sleeve up a little more. Carol flinched a little as the sleeve came up, “Did one of those things bite you?”
“Yeah. A few ilals before yours, one of the customers I tried to help ended up biting me. With everything going on, the pain didn’t seem to faze me till now.”
“Where is your medical box?” Sara asked as she stood up.
“Against eth wall by the door.” Sara walked over to the door and noticed a large white box next to it on the ground. She picked it up and walked back over to Carol. She opened the box on the table and pulled out some of the disinfectant. She poured some of it on the wound and Carol cried out a little.
“Hey, Is everything alright?” Smith came out of the other room quickly.
“Carol got hurt, so I am helping patch her up.”
John walked out of the room and walked over to Carol. He felt her head, “She is burning up.” He leaned closer and opened her eyes wider with his hand, “Her eyes seemed to be fully desolated too.”
“Are you some kind of doctor now?” Smith asked.
“I am actually.” John snapped back quickly as he grabbed a small popsicle stick from the box and opened her mouth up with it, “Her glands are going crazy also. This is incredible how quickly the virus effects the next user.”
“What are you talking about?” Sara asked as she wrapped up Carols arm.
“She is going to become one of those things out there soon. Once her breathing stops, she will wake up as one of those things.”
Carol laid her head on the table, “I am becoming one of those things out there? I’m going to die?” Sara watched as a few tears fell down Carols face.
“No, you won’t die.” Sara replied as she glared at John, “You are going to be…” A gun shot quickly went off and Sara watched as Carol’s eyes became lifeless and her body fell off the chair.
