The freckled boy and the unloved teenager walked in the the pouring rain for hours. It wasn't long before it all got worse and the lightning started to flash across the sky. It got closer, the sound and light, until a big thud scared Rory and she had jumped into Gunner's arms. She looked up at him as he looked down at her. The one thought he had was "Why is she scared of lighting or thunder? I don't think it's that scary. Maybe it's just me".
"Rory do you want me to put you down?" It was awkward, but before she could respond the lightning cracked again and she was out like a light.
That was when he realized that he didn't know where she lived, so what would be the point of walking her home? God, it was going to be a long night. A weird one too, because he knew he was in for something when he finally got home. Late AND he had a girl with him? That was a bad combination.
Still, he kept walking with the thought in mind that he could just take her to his place. He had a spare room in his house, right? He hoped so. He kept walking for a little while until he was finally home. It was then when he walked up to the door with his wet sneakers. What a weird day. It wasn't very often that days played out like that.
He opened the front door slowly and he slid through the crack of the door, even though it wasn't very smooth (Who could possibly be smooth when they were carrying someone though?). As he walked upstairs to put Rory to bed, he turned on the lamp. There was one last thing to do. He awkwardly took her shoes off so she could sleep comfortably then dryed her off to the best of his ability, which wasn't very good, considering he was soaked too. He put her in the bed. Then went to turn off the lamp, but before he left, Rory mumbled.
"Gunner please don't leave me in the dark." She whispered so lowly that he hardly noticed her speaking.
As he was shutting the door he heard her and started to turn around. He decided that he couldn't leave her alone at night, so he got in the chair next to the bed. An hour later and he was asleep. It was as he was sleeping that he had a dream. It started at the circus and it was dark, so deep and dark that his breath caught in his throat. But, wait. He woke up and noticed that it was almost morning. It was like he almost completely forgot about the dream the moment he woke up. It would have to wait.
He shook the dream off for the moment and listened to music for about an hour. Sublime was super cool, but it was boring after listening to the album 40oz to Freedom for the hundredth time. He looked over at Rory, stared for a second with his grey eyes, then stood up wearily. He went downstairs and started to get something to eat, when he heard something upstairs. Was it Rory? He thought it was Rory moving around in the bed. He was still on the edge of his seat bout her being there. He went back upstairs as quick as possible and noticed Rory was up and tooling around with the room. Bummer.
She got up and walked to the window and started to smile. It was a nice day. The sun was shining and the rain had faded away. She almost forgot she was at Gunner's place. Maybe she didn't even notice.
Gunner slowly walked in and dropped his noodle cup in the floor. Was that doorway always there? That was embarrassing. He slowly looked up from the mess and Rory was staring at the cup.
"Klutz- I mean ah, Gunner where are we?" She asked awkwardly.
"Uhm, you passed out in my arms or something and I didn't know where you lived. So, I brought you to my house and...yeah," He couldn't make eye contact with her. That cup of noodles was staring right at him.
"Why? You know you could have just left me in the rain!" She was so loud sometimes.
"That's not really my style,Rory. I'm more of the type that cares for people not the type that wants people to feel alone and hurt,"
"Well thanks, but I'm used to being alone. I've been doing fine with out anyone so I'll be fine. Where are my shoes?" She sputtered out words, a little irritated. That was just Rory though.
"They're by the bed," Gunner told her.
"Yeah, thanks. Well, I'll be going then," She shrugged.
"You can't get rid of me just yet, we have school idiot," Gunner mumbled.
"Right, we have an assignment and you want to get to know me," Rory sighed.
"There's nothing about me that's amazing but I mean sure why not. You seem cool...I guess," Gunner looked at the ceiling. "Just keep up with me cause I have something important to take care of."
