Epiphany
[əˈpifənē]
Noun
1. A moment of sudden revelation
“Anymore coughing fits?” His mother broke the silence at the table, twirling spaghetti on her fork. His father looked up from his own plate expectantly.
Keir stopped pushing his food around on his plate, forcing a smile onto his face. “Yeah, it seems like the clean air is helping.”
They both smiled and nodded, pleased with his answer. “That’s great, sweetheart. You know how difficult the move is on your father.”
“Of course. It’d be a shame if this didn’t work out. I like it here.” He lied easily, turning his attention back to his food. Keir excused himself shortly after and escaped back to his room. He flopped down on his bed, Birdie fluttering over to perch herself on his chest.
‘I’m nearly out of my favorite bird seed, you know.’ Birdie’s voice twittered in his mind as she settled herself. ‘Another ladder would be great too. Maybe even a mirror.’
He couldn’t help but chuckle at the dove’s suggestions. “You’re spoiled rotten.”
She ruffled her feathers a bit, glaring at Keir with her beady eyes with a huff. ‘As a lady should be. I feel sorry for the girl who gets stuck with you.’
“We both know I don’t swing that way, Birdie.” He sat up and she hopped onto the bed. “Let’s hope the pet store carries your bird food, otherwise we’ll have to order it on Amazon.”

“Are you stalking me?” He jumped, dropping the bag of birdseed as he turned towards the deep voice. Nyx was watching him with a smirk and Keir scowled at him.
Nyx bent down and picked up the bag before he could. “So, you have a bird huh?”
“Yeah.” He muttered dismissively and glared at him. He was still mad about earlier. “What the hell are you doing here?”
Nyx brightened at the question. “Oh, I found a cat that I’ve decided to keep. I’m just getting some stuff for it right now.”
“That’s cool.” Keir muttered, his love for animals outweighing his anger towards Nyx. “Have you named it yet or anything?”
“Yeah, his name is Abaddon. I’ll probably call him Abby for short.” Nyx said, smiling. It was a genuine smile, not like the smirk he usually wears. Keir blatantly stared at him, somewhat dazed. How could someone look so attractive? “Uhm… so what kind of bird do you have?” Nyx asked after a few moments of awkward silence.
Keir cleared his throat and looked away; his cheeks warm. “A Mourning Dove.”
“That’s a weird pet.” He frowned as Keir took the bag of seed from him.
“Yeah, I uh, got her from a breeder. I need to get going.” Keir clutched the bag and turned away, heading towards the register. That was embarrassing. No doubt Nyx noticed him staring at him like some sort of caveman. He paid for the birdseed quickly and left the shop.
As he got into his car, he realized he hadn’t even got Birdie a new ladder.

“Gods, you’re perfect.” Nyx whispered, lips just above his own and his hot breath fanning over his face. He was hovering above Keir, pinning his arms above his head as he watched him through half-lidded eyes. His breath hitched; Nyx’s gaze was intense, almost predatory. He was looking at Keir like he was his prey, and any moment he might pounce. The blond’s hips rolled against his own, the friction causing him to bite his lip to keep from moaning.
“Don’t do that, I want to hear you.” The words rolled off his tongue sensually, voice deep and husky. Suddenly, Nyx’s lips crashed against his in an aggressive kiss. He couldn’t hold back his whimper as Nyx ravished his mouth. His tongue slipped past his lips to explore Keir’s mouth as he grinded against him. Keir was in bliss, his brain unable to focus on anything than the pleasure coursing through him.
Nyx pulled away, causing him to whine desperately. His eyes were full of lust, but as he opened his mouth to say something an obnoxious, buzzing noise came from his lips.
Keir jolted awake covered in a sticky sweat, chest heaving. He turned off his alarm and rolled onto his back to stare at the ceiling. His erection throbbed painfully, but he ignored it. What the hell was that? His lips were tingling like he’d actually been kissed, and he brought his hand up to touch them. Were wet dreams usually that vivid?
He shook his head to himself and got up, deciding to take a cold shower. He needed to get his attraction towards Nyx in check. He barely knew the guy! He wanted to know more though. He was just so mysterious and Keir wanted to get past that.
After his cold shower he got ready for school, bundling up because it was cold this morning. He fed Birdie and said goodbye to her (even though she wasn’t speaking to him because she didn’t get her ladder) before heading downstairs to grab some breakfast. His mom was in the kitchen, sipping coffee as she waited for some bread in the toaster. He grabbed a granola bar and kissed her cheek before heading out the door.
Once Keir made it to school, he headed toward his first block. He needed to figure out more about Nyx, because obviously he was attracted to him. Maybe he was actually a pretty good guy and they could form at least a solid friendship together.
All those thoughts flew out the window when he stepped into his classroom. Nyx was there first as always but sitting on the table in front of him was a girl. She was pretty with long red hair and bright green eyes. They were obviously a couple, what with their closeness and the fact that they were holding hands.
Jealousy ripped through him, which he quickly pushed away. He’d barely known Nyx for a week, he had no claim over the blond. So instead of scowling at the couple and maybe pushing her off the table, he instead kept a neutral face as he took his seat.
“Who’s this?” The girl asked, her voice high and sweet. She turned towards him, and he noticed the golden cross around her neck. How ironic.
“Oh, this is the new guy, Keir. Keir, this is my girlfriend Amanda.” Nyx introduced them, his usual smirk on his lips. His eyes were glinting mischievously though, which Keir found odd.
“I don’t think I’ve seen you around?” Keir asked politely, forcing himself to smile at the girl.
“Yes, I’ve been gone for a few weeks visiting family. The bell is about to ring so I’m gonna head to my class.” She kissed Nyx quickly on the lips and hopped up. “It was nice to meet you, Keir.” She said before leaving the room.
“She seems nice.” He commented. “Does she know she’s dating a demon?”
“I’m not a demon.” Nyx chuckled and bumped his shoulder playfully. “Have any dreams last night?”
Keir’s blood ran cold, and he looked up at Nyx who was giving him a knowing look. He swallowed thickly, trying to figure out what he was playing at. Did he really know? Or did he just look guilty? Maybe Nyx was a telepath. “What do you mean?”
“It’s okay, a lot of people dream about me.” Nyx dropped his voice to a whisper, “especially wet dreams.”
He felt himself blushing to the tips of his ears. What the fuck? “How could you possibly know that?”
“I just do.”
“I’m done playing this game. Tell me what you are.” Keir hissed, angry that his mind had been somehow invaded. He could feel his heart pounding as embarrassment and mortification washed over him.
“And you’ll tell me what you are?” Nyx whispered, leaning closer to Keir. His eyes were intense, just like in his dream and Keir stilled, captured under his gaze.
“Yes.” He breathed, nervously biting his lip.
His pale eyes flitted down, watching the movement. “Fine.” He said suddenly, sitting back in his chair.
“I’ll tell you. Meet me in the football field after school.”
