"I'll be back," Jesse told her. He never came back...
(12 years later)
*Jesse's POV*
"Jesse..." she trailed off. I gently traced the outline of her lips with my thumb. "Why did you..."
"I don't know what will happen. What if something happens?" I asked her. I felt a tear roll down her cheek and land on my hand. "Char... don't cry," I pleaded softly. Tears continued to fall and soon appeared in my eyes too.
"Jesse, please tell me you'll come back," she begged. I let out a shaky breath.
"I... I can't Char, what if-"
"Please just say it," she interrupted me. I sighed.
"I'll be back," I told her. The atmosphere changed somehow and I shivered at the pins-and-needles feeling.
"Liar," she stated coldly.
"Char?" Why is she acting like this suddenly?
"You said you'd be back!" she chastised me, looking miserable.
"What? I..." A cold feeling wrapped around my heart.
"You went around and got attached to that princess and your new friends. You forgot about me! You became obsessed with 'saving the universe!'"
"I-"
"Goodbye, Jesse," she muttered, interrupting me and walking out the door. I followed after her.
"Char!" I shouted. I caught a glimpse of her around a corner and ran. She stepped through a door. I ran at top speed, but the door seemed to get further and further away. I continued to yell her name, desperately hoping she would hear me and come back. The hallway morphed into a room with mirrors running all around me, all with my face on them, spewing insults.
"Char!" I woke up in cold sweat, with Caesar hovering over me. I'm still on the main ship... Was that a nightmare? He looked frantic and was staring at me with wide eyes. I looked around my room and realized the team was here. "What are you doing here?" I asked. I then realized there were tears in my eyes.
"The badboy's been crying?" Caesar teased me. I glared at him, wiping the tears away. What the hell?! I looked down at my now moist hand, confused.
"Who's Char?" Leymara asked. I looked down at my hands, which were shaking and ignored her question.
"Why are you all in my room?" I asked instead.
"You wouldn't wake up. You were having a nightmare," Cameron explained.
"I'm going to the training room," I muttered, running a hand through my wavy, dark hair. I stood up, but Caesar shoved me back down.
"You're not going anywhere. Not until you explain," Leymara stated. I narrowed my eyes.
"I don't have to explain anything." I shoved past Caesar and ran off to the training room.
When I got there, I immediately started on my workout. I did 39 squats, then 25 push-ups. I attempted to do chin ups, but my hands shook too much. I sat down and held my head in my hands, trying to steady my breathing. "What the hell is wrong with me?" I muttered. I felt a hand on my shoulder and jumped. It was Amos! "Sir," I said softly.
"We're just going out for a quick flight. You want to come?" he asked. I nodded slowly. Amos helped me up and we walked to where our ships were stationed in. I boarded.
"Hey, Red. Haven't seen you in a while. Can I fly you?" I asked. It allowed me to grip the controls. I safely left the main ship, along with my teammates.
As soon as I was out I wobbled and Red stopped listening. I let out a yelp as Red dived. "Jesse, are you okay?" Amos shouted.
"Red doesn't want to listen to me!" I replied. "Please, Red," I pleaded. A flash of a memory crossed through my mind... Earth... "No, Red. I can't," I protested quietly.
"What does Red want?" Amos asked.
"She wants to take me to Earth," I answered. Amos landed his ship suddenly. "Can I go later. Please, Red. I can't," I whispered, my voice trembled. Red spun in the air in retaliation and I gripped my chair tightly. "Please, just dock. I'll think about it," I caved.
When I was back inside, Leymara came running to me. "What was that?" she asked.
"Red want me to do something. She won't let me fly her," I explained.
"Surely it can not be that difficult," she spoke. I winced.
"I can't do it," I mumbled. Lila's expression changed.
"Why not?" she asked. "How are you not able to fulfill a simple request?"
"I can't do it," I repeated quietly, my hand hanging low.
"Why?" Leymara raised her voice. I looked up at her with cold eyes. She gasped softly at my reaction.
"I just can't," I muttered. I turned away, but she caught my arm.
"Please tell us, Jesse. We want to help you," Leymara said. I noticed the team behind her.
"What is it, Jesse?" Caesar asked.
"Red wants me to go to Earth," I answered slowly.
"Is that all?" Leymara sounded surprised.
"I messed up. On Earth. I can't go back," I muttered helplessly.
"It must have been pretty bad if you're getting nightmares," Caesar added. I stiffened.
"We need you. You have to do this," Leymara said.
"We'll all come. To support you," Amos told me. He's trying to make me feel better. I let out a low growl of frustration.
"Fine," I agreed reluctantly. Alex jumped happily.
"I'll go make some cookies," Cameron stated, trying to get away.
"I'm coming too," Alex bounded up to him.
"Don't make a mess," I warned them. Cameron smiled and me and ran off to the kitchen. I glared at the remaining people and began sulking over to my room. Caesar yanked me to the point where I almost toppled over.
"Let's do one-on-one," he told me. I huffed and allowed him to drag me over to the training room.
And we were off. I cracked a smile. This time, he made sure to make eye contact. For a brief moment, he could see uncertainty in my eyes. He felt grateful for the advantage. Advancing. Advancing. Caesar charged at me with his blade upheld, going to his foreswing and following it with a backswing. I dodged the first and met the second with my sword. The weight of the thing sent Caesar's blade back, back, back...but not far enough to knock the blade free of his hands. He struck. This shot sliced the fabric of my shirt at the midsection. It missed my chest behind it by perhaps a centimeter. I staggered. Caesar swung. His sword missed though, not close enough to eat fabric. Swing. Swing. Swing. The first two missed badly, but the third, a backswing off the one before it, found my chest. The sword struck me hard, sending me flying. I dropped to a knee, tried to stand, and wobbled.
"Ouch," I let out a grunt of pain.
"Just as I'd suspected. You're off your game," Caesar accused me.
"What if you just got better?" I suggested. He gave me the 'do you really believe that' look. I sighed.
"How did you mess up?" he asked. I shot him a confused look. "You said you messed up real bad on Earth. What did you do?" he clarified. I looked away, a wistful look on my face.
A/N: I've never seriously written in guy POV, that was probably bad... Sorry...
