I remember hearing

that if you look at yourself in the mirror

and say positive things to yourself

you’ll feel good about yourself,

but that wasn’t the case for me,

I stared myself down in the mirror,

and started saying positive things to I,

you are handsome, you are smart,

though those words quickly went away,

my reflection told me that what I said were lies,

and corrected my lies by telling the truth,

you are ugly, you are an idiot and failure,

you do not matter, you are nothing,

I didn’t try talking positively to myself again

in the mirror after that,

nor do I think,

I’ll ever try again
