"And, she's gone.." Alinor looks down the hall with a deep sigh at Draena's behavior, "I mean, she's right that we're on a short schedule with the sleeping gas, but still," he looks back to Daebru giving a soft smile that doesn't reach his golden eyes, "So, are you coming with us? or -"
Daebru cuts him off by raising up a hand between them, "I'd be in trouble either way, since I'm the one that brought you in here. I don't know what you're planning or why, but you owe me. I have a reputation, and you may have just ruined all my hard work with her idiotic idea to put the entire audience to sleep!" Daebru hisses out, his voice squeaking a bit to his dismay, It's hard to keep my voice feminine and this is not helping at all...
Alinor nods, and Gorthan peeks over his shoulder with his usual grin the wings flapping behind him still, "You won't regret siding with us Haaru. I'll make sure of it," he comments calmly.
"Yeah Haaru, we got your back," Gorthan pipes up before putting a finger over his mouth, to indicate and remind himself to be quiet now, "hee hee, lets go," he starts moving down the hall, his tail swishing a bit like a cat hunting a mouse.
Daebru tilts his head to the side to contemplate that thought, He really does move like a cat, but Draena is more like a rat at this point... he gestures down the hall with his chin, "After you."
Gwen and Alinor stroll side by side down the hall, looking down side hallways, "Music..." the scarecrow whispers at the corner pointing to his left, "it's so beautiful, and sad"
Indeed there was music playing, a beautiful and sorrowful song, played on an organ in the room. The sound didn't travel far, thanks to the thick carpeting in the hallway, and presumably rather heavy set doors. Strange to have music playing in a room away from the grande hall where all the guests are.
"Looks like the guards aren't going to move anytime soon though," Alinor scrunches up his face in thought for a moment, "if you think it's important, I can make some noise and pull them away for you to get a look inside"
Gwen nods and Alinor glances at Daebru before darting a bit of the way down the hallway on the other side, "Hey! We need your help! Miss Galora's in trouble! Please help!" he pleads after turning around in the hallway. Both guards look at him then to each other before one comes, "Seriously! We need you both!" The other guard looks at the door then nods and runs off after Alinor.
Daebru presses into the shadows near Gwen as the guards pass by. Not wasting any time, Gwen takes the moment to jog over to the doors and fiddle with the lock a bit before slipping inside. Don't take too long, Gwen. Even I know that room's not your objective. He takes a deep calming breath, listening to voices shouting from the ballroom. Really low on time... Time seemed to pass slowly, a few seconds stretched to what felt like minutes waiting for the musically inclined scarecrow to come back out of the room. Memories threatening to overwhelm him as he waited.
Footsteps behind him caused him to get moving, can't wait any longer, the shadows around corners becoming his friend in evading guards and guests alike. Left, then two rights, up a flight of stairs to the second floor. The corridor stretched out with little to no torches to light the way, but for Daebru, the darkness was like home. A sense of peacefulness washed over him as he strolled down the corridor looking at the portraits on the walls. This must be Galora and some of her family when she was younger. The style looks older than I thought she would be though.
Alinor takes off around the corner, and just about runs into a guest coming out of the grande ballroom, "Oh! I'm sorry miss. Are you alright?" She's one from the back of the audience, not much time left.
The woman nods briefly a hand over her heart, clearly startled by his sudden appearance. She sees the other guards come rushing down the hall and her eyes widen a bit in distress.
"Why don't I lend you an arm out of here" he raised up his elbow to give the woman support as the guards rush past him into the grande ballroom. He leads her to the front door of the manor, and a servant takes over with a deep bow to the woman, "Now back to the others..." wherever they are
Making his way through the halls, he spots Gorthan looking a bit pale at the top of a set of stairs, "Gorthan?" the sound of footsteps draws his attention behind him, "down, go down" he gives a light shove to his best friend and heads down the stairs after him.
"She's gone..." Gorthan's voice is quiet as his head lowers.
"What do you mean...?" his eyes lock on the two figures in the middle of the room, "Pags? What's going on?" he stumbles forward, making his way down to Pags and Draena.
"She can't be .. she just can't ... I won't let her go!" Pags, a rather pink changeling, looks up to Alinor, tears streaming down her face, "I have to get her out of here!"
Alinor drops to his knees beside them, "Draena...?" his hand reaches out to take the young woman's cold hand, "I'm so sorry," his eyes meet with Pags' over Draena's body, "I should have been here, I'm so sorry Pags." How could I let this happen? I shouldn't have waited to see if Haaru ... shit! where is Haaru!?
"I .. I have to go ... we all have to go ... Galora .. she'll kill us if she sees us down here" more tears rolling down her cheeks as she slowly gets to her feet. Draena lays limp in the woman's arms.
"Go ... we need to find Haaru, we pulled her into our mess, without explaining anything. I don't know where she ended up..."
"We'll find her," Gorthan nods, his hand engulfing Alinor's shoulder, "We leave Draena in your care Pags."
The changeling nods, "Good luck" she turns on her heel and moves over to a hidden door in the wall, good to know there's escape hatches just about everywhere in town...
"Let's Go..." his voice sounds choked as he turns to see Haaru at the bottom of the stairs, "Haaru!" he rushes over to the young girl, "Where were you? Where's Gwen?"
"Gwen didn't come back out, there were guards ..." her head snaps up with a blank expression, "Draena's dead."
He blanches at the words, frozen by them for a moment, "y-yes..." Haaru reaches up and gently wipes a thumb over his cheeks, what is ... tears? Of course... I lost a friend ... of course I'd be crying, "Haaru... we .. we need to go...." she nods, not saying anything and takes his hand leading him back up the stairs, it's so dark here now... are we moving through shadows? How ...? What are you Haaru? just what secrets do you have that you can be so calm right now?
Idiot ... that's why you don't leave your allies behind. You deserve to die when you do that in a situation that calls for you to use your allies, Daebru didn't really care, that numbness was back again as he pulled Alinor through the corridors. He could hear Gorthan not that far behind, the man's steps louder than the guards at times.
"Haaru, how do you do that shadow thing?" Gorthan whispers in awe behind him.
"It's just something I do, I can't really explain it"
"Like how I just rage in battles?"
"Uh.. yeah sure. Innate instinct" strange connections... He moves to the front slipping in with the crowd leaving the manor, "Let's just get out of here and back..."
"Home?" the hopeful tone in Gorthan's voice causing Daebru to give pause and look back at him.
He sighs, "My home is a day or two away from here Gorthan, and I still have a job to do here. I'm just going back to the inn again."
"Did we mess up? Are you ... not gonna be friends with us anymore?" the dragonborn lowers his head, Stop that, you look like a kicked puppy ... stupid puppies.
"I don't know, yet" carriages pull away from the manor taking the nobles back home after the night's festivities. Guards rush about still looking for people. Gwen strides up beside them from the crowd and walks alongside them back into the city. A sigh of relief escapes Daebru's lips as they round a corner and are at last out of view of Galora Cromwell's manor.
Daebru pauses near the inn to face the others, wiping more tears from Alinor's cheeks, "I'm sorry you lost Draena. I don't know what you're after, but should you need me, I'll be in town for a bit longer"
Alinor suddenly hugs Daebru oh .. okay ... dammit ... please don't notice I'm a guy ... please "Thank you Haaru, I was afraid we lost your trust with this. I'm so glad to hear you're still willing to be around us," he kisses the side of Daebru's head, what the hell? what'd he do that for???
"y-yeah... no problem" he pulls away, a bit of resistance from Alinor, but he's finally let go and turns to head inside "see you around" he takes the stairs two at a time and moves into his room. The door closed tightly behind him, "well, that was weird"
"What was?"
"Oh, sorry did I enter the wrong room?" he looks up a bit sheepishly to see Sune sitting on the edge of the bed
"No, after last night we share a room remember, the door to the other one was broken"
"R-right... well, at least I don't have to hide from you"
"Hide?" his head tilts a bit then his eyes go wide with understanding, "ah, that. No you don't have to hide that from me ... and if you like someone you shouldn't hide it from them either"
Daebru shifts uncomfortably before he starts removing his shirt to take off the chest piece, "Yeah... i know..." but I already decided to just leave that out of my life ... he's gone .. on a mission of his own .. a hunt for the man that ... that changed Tamashi...
