One upon the Stars

Chapter One

Chapter One

Aug 05, 2019

Altair was speaking animatedly with Michael and Cassiel about an event in the mortal realm. All seemed to go silent as Altair laid eyes upon one of the other angels. The conversation fell upon deft ears as he took in the appearance of Tristain as he gracefully landed nearby. He slowly sat under a tree, pulling out a notebook. The blonde-haired angel seemed to be scanning through something before taking out a quill and ink and scribbling something down. As Altair silently watched, he admired the concentrated look on the other man's face. Tristain had a habit of biting his tongue when he was thinking, a habit Altair thought was all too adorable.

Tristain's hair was long, pure blonde, slightly wavy. He had the long strands of his hair from either side of his face braided and pulled around the crown of his head, holding the rest of the silken hair in place. His eyes were a deep blue, like the clearest ocean, the clearest sky; That's when Cassiel gave him a smack on his shoulder, snapping him from his reverie. How long was I staring at Tristain?

"Hey, Altair, you feeling okay mate?" Cassiel, a dark-haired female smiled at him awkwardly. She was one of his closest friends. She knew everything, saw everything. Nothing got past her. She wasn't 'the watcher' for no reason after all. Her chocolate brown eyes were filled with understanding and worry as she looked at Altair.

"Yeah, sorry I was miles away. I got lost in thought" Altair smiled, his short messy black hair framed his strong features perfectly, his pearl-like teeth nearly glimmered in the sunlight. "Where were we?" he chuckled nonchalantly. He met Cassiel's gaze, his emerald green to her chocolate brown. The conversation continued, he flawlessly joined in again. He couldn't help but take a peek at Tristain from the corner of his eye. To his surprise, Tristain was looking back at him. Tristain fumbled and blushed a faint pink as he was caught staring at Altair. Altair couldn't help the slight tilt of his lip in amusement. So I'm not the only one, huh? The idea filled Altair with hope. Soon after they all had to retire for the night.

On Altairs way to his chambers, he ran into Tristain. "Good evening Tristain" he greeted the blonde angel fondly. He hadn't meant for his tone to be so familiar, considering they barely knew each other.

"G-Good evening...Altair" Tristain looked up at Altair shyly.

Tristain stood at 5'8", and had a smaller more feminine frame. Altair was 6'4" and was finely muscled. They nearly looked like opposites. The thought made Altair smirk.

"Sorry for running into you, I was admiring the sky at night and wasn't looking where I was going" he looked out at the courtyard, his green orbs looking up to the starry sky. He moved towards the railing that framed the courtyard and leaned against it, smiling softly. "Nights like this are perfect" he sighed in content.

Tristain couldn't help but move closer to Altair. He ended up standing beside the larger angel and looked up at the stars. "You're right..." he barely whispered.

Altair looked at Tristain and smiled. "You should socialize more Tristain. I'd really like to get to know you better." he reached up and patted Tristain on the back. He had seen Tristain for hundreds of years but never had he thought they would casually be able to converse this way. It was always chaste glances, or in Altairs case, staring like an idiot. Tristain flushed a light pink and shifted his weight as he responded. "You, would like to get to know me? You're so well known. I'm just a little nobody" he ended with a sigh. Truth be told he wanted to get to know Altair as well but he worried Altairs reputation would be ruined if he were to spend any time around him. Tristain was known for being an outcast, a loner of sorts. He was one of the youngest angels, he was smaller and frailer than the other angels. The thought made his chest hurt. He was an angel like the others but never going to belong.

"Yeah. I definitely want to get to know you better! You've been around here for a few centuries now and you still sit alone all the time" Altair answered bluntly. "Normally within a few decades, you make friends and end up assigned to a legion or an assignment of sorts. Seems you are one of the watchers..." he trailed off and glanced down at the satchel slung around Tristain's body.

"O-oh. Yes. I work under Cassiel. She is a lovely lady. I truly admire her" he smiled softly. He was truly fond of his teacher, his mentor, his boss. She was always kind to him, even though he was different from the others. He especially liked her wings. They were blue grey, like a soft cloud in the midday. He smiled without thinking, causing Altair to frown.

"You like her that much?" He asked sternly. Relationships between angels were forbidden. Altair knew this, and he felt an unfamiliar heat building in his chest; jealousy, though he mistook it as his feeling of enforcing the laws. Working directly under Michael meant he had to sometimes discipline angels who broke the rules, testaments, and laws of their father. Most emotions are difficult for an angel to feel, so it didn't occur to him the feeling of jealousy could be the case.. The sinful emotions such as the seven deadly sins, they were forbidden for the angels. It was said God created the angels unable to feel these emotions, and yet there Altair was unknowingly feeling jealousy; the child of greed and envy. He took a deep calming breath and continued, "If you like her that much, you need to be careful who you say these things to. Relationships between angels are forbidden" He looked at Tristain, trying to hide his uncertainty.

"N-no! You're mistaken! I admire her. Aspire to be like her. I don't covet her" Tristain's face turned a bright red. He started panicking, wanting to clear up the misunderstanding. "There is someone I'm interested in getting to know better. I'd like to get closer to them and get to know them bit by bit" he smiled and looked at Altair, meeting his gaze.

"Oh? Who might that be?" Altair asked. He began feeling this unusual burning feeling in his body. He wanted to touch Tristains face, his hair, hold the smaller male against him. The centuries of small talk, wanting to get to know Tristain better...Why did he feel this way?

"Well, I'm talking to him, but don't feel like you have to talk to me! I'm just a little nobody after all." he smiled sadly, the blue of his eyes seemed to cloud over like a stormy sky. The bright blue turning to a darker grey-blue. Tristain took a tentative step closer to Altair, not realizing he even had.

"I told you I want to get to know you better as well Tristain." Altair grinned brightly but could feel an odd static-like feeling between his body and Tristain's. His body slowly feeling like it was overheating. He went to say something but his breathing hitched. Their moment was interrupted by Phanuel.

"Lights out guys. You shouldn't be out this late, especially if Kushiel catches you. You'll get a lashing for sure" Phanuel laughed. His chestnut curly brown hair framed his face, his light grey eyes were alight with amusement. He loved seeing other angels interact, especially since he doesn't go outside much himself.

Tristain immediately bowed to Altair, "It was a pleasure talking with you Altair." He rushed away, passing Phanuel.

"What's eating him? Are the cherubs playing pranks again?" Phanuel laughed softly and gestured for Altair to come.

"I don't know. We were just talking" Altair shrugged, seeming indifferent. Inside he was in a whirlwind of turmoil. What was that? Desire? I thought we couldn't feel desire? He mentally shook his head and passed the time walking to his chambers listening to Phanuel ramble on about some board game he was playing with some of the cherubs and other angels.

Once he reached his chambers he stretched out on his bed, laying on his stomach. His wings stretched out as if they were tired all on their own. He rolled over and looked at the ceiling, thoughts of the conversation, the electricity, the burning in his body....what does it all mean? His thoughts raced as his body heated. He felt a tightness in his groin and looked down seeing a strange lump in his pants. He frowned and gently grabbed it, not sure what it was. He hissed upon the contact, the tentative touch sent a shiver across his body, the lump filling with a tingling sensitivity he thought not possible. No. Nononononononono. This can't be happening. I've seen this happen to the humans when they mate...Why is this happening to me?

He stared wide-eyed at the large lump, his mind racing a mile a minute. He gently rubbed his hand against it, a low groan escaped his lips. He sat up, started and began internally panicking. This is wrong. This can't be happening...Oh father, what am I to do? I should just sleep and figure this out tomorrow. Yeah, that's a good idea. I'm....really sleepy. Altair pulled off his white and black suit and pulled on a pair of grey sweats and a white t-shirt. Soundlessly he laid on his side and slowly drifted off to sleep.
