The increasing heat of the morning sun could be felt as the afternoon came, casting a blanket of orange gleam on a large modern infrastructure. It was a massive Brutalist-style building made of black steel, glass windows and reinforced concrete. Behind it was a massive glass globe with window film to hide its transparent surface, looking from above as it towers the quadrilateral building. Its presence was very high-tech, diverging itself from the lush greenery and vegetation it was surrounded with. Without a large sign to garnish it, public sectors knew instead from its appearance that it was GUD5 (Pronounced GUDS) or The Global Unit of Defense for all Sentients, a worldwide organization dedicated in managing current issues and affairs between chromatoons and humans. GUDS also served its purpose by helping rectifiable chromatoons maintain and control what was happening to them through consensual experimentation, and from them find some type of cure or blockage for their “rouge” transformation. The massive building was first built on US grounds near the outskirts from where Atramento Peak resided, The largest metropolitan and highly advanced city for its time. The interior of the building was equipped with noir furniture and modernized to compliment the sophisticated nature of the institute, as well as its roots to the high-tech neighboring city. The contrast of white and black inside was almost ethereal, a bit hard to relax which served its purpose to keep associates inside busy. Everyone was in a rush to finish their own work as an important meeting was in development. The chief director of GUDS for the US region, Giuseppe, was to assemble and speak with his sector in the building’s auditorium, meet back with the rest of the international GUDS directors in his digital conference room and the next day with the leaders in the United Nations. The matter in hand are issues regarding the increased number of rougers appearing worldwide, no longer residing where the branches of GUDS are at and putting more innocent humans and chromatoons at risk. Stricter safety precautions must now be taken into consideration to help the public remain safe, control and subside the violent aftermaths and rise of property damage caused by unhinged rougers.
On the floor below, Giuseppe was walking through the white corridor away from his office space and to the direction of the elevators that lead to the first floor above where his secretary was waiting for him. He was an olive-skin man of tall structure, 6’1” with a dark side curl cut, green eyes and a well-groomed short boxed beard. He fashioned a gray shirt with a blazer jacket over it and black fit suit pants to match it, finished off with a pair of clean black cap-toe shoes. He wore a charcoal black tag with his silver name imprinted on and neatly embedded on his right breast, which helped him stand out as the director. Although his associates believe his office was better suited on the top floors, Giuseppe felt the underground was more proper, knowing there was a better advantage by keeping important and classified matters allocated. Besides, in case of any threat that slips through the building’s security system and follows him, he makes sure the escape route was limited even if it costed his own safety. Once the elevator reached the first floor he swerved in and took a step forward, not pausing for a moment. As he was speeding towards the auditorium his secretary, a young fauna chromatoon, followed behind shortly with a clipboard and was going down a list and detailing everything for today’s events.
Giuseppe responded with a firm tone, “Ms. Hunter, can you repeat my schedule for today, I need to keep all of this memorized.”
Ms. Hunter responded to her superior with a yes sir and started going down the list.
“After the meeting with your associates in the auditorium, estimated to last for 3 hours, you’re going to meet with your head team from each department to discuss some improvements regarding better security measures for the building, the estimated time for this will be 2 hours. We’re estimating to have our two meetings completed by 6 pm. You plan to have a small dinner before the next meeting with the other directors of GUDS to share information discussed earlier.” Ms. Hunter paused for a moment, looking up at her superior to check if she should continue. Giuseppe noticed and motioned her to do so. “I’ll be there as testimony in the auditorium to type in important notes and I’ll be emailing the whole staff tonight.”
Oh! and sir, I have reserved your jet for tomorrow. It should arrive here by 7 am.”
Giuseppe stated, “Very well. Thank you, Ms. Hunter.”
They continued walking down the corridor until they reached the doors that lead to the stairs to the second floor where the auditorium was located, the light becoming brighter as they entered.
