Greer set to work as soon as she was inside. Washing and cleaning dishes, wiping down the tables, even checking the laundry. Somewhere between folding clothes and washing plates, Blake returned and had, as promised, connected the dots and was taking care of some minor things himself. There was a knocking on the door and Greer walked over, “You expecting anyone Blake?” she asked, opening the door as he shook his head.
There was a small gray haired old woman in a little blue dress. Woman suddenly hugged Greer. "Oh thank you, young man! Thank you! I couldn't find the ring... you turned it in yes?" Greer nodded a bit as she continued. "My late husband gave it to me... please... let me give you a reward..."
“Ma’am I don’t-”
“I won’t take no for an answer! I simply won’t! Now here...You deserve it for your kindness.” She shoved the money into Greer's hands and Greer watched as she walked off, thanking "him" several more times as she left.
".......ok.... kay.... how did she....?"
"Who was she? No one's supposed to know this address..... Is she someone you know?" Blake looked panicked, not that Greer understood why. Was that other guy going to come back now?
She looked. "Well I got a library card with the other you. And I found a ring and turned it in while Dewi was being you. Maybe he gave the address when she asked wanted to say thanks? Seems like sweet lil old lady."
Greer looked at the bills, thinking they were ones. "I mean... if it made her feel better to give me a few..... bucks...." Her jaw dropped a bit. It was 20's and 50's….. A lot of them. "uhhh ok.... um.... rent money?" She held it out.
Blake wasn’t paying any attention to Greer anymore. "Dewi knows not to give out our address. We've had problems in the past with stalkers and... other types." He quickly goes to the fridge, pulls out a bottle and starts chugging it.
"Wait Blake, Blake...." She went over and got near but not too close. "Shhhh... ok... take a sip... don't chug... make your motions slow... do you want to be touched right now? Do you want some pressure put on you to help you calm?" She kept her tone even and smooth.
"No, I'm fine. This stuff's really strong so it's already kicking in....."
She nodded. "Do you need anything else then? Do you have a weighted blanket? Or music that helps?" She was keeping her tone calm. She had dealt with her aunt’s panic attacks over the years and was trying to remember everything that helped her.
"I'm fine. Like I said, one bottle of this stuff and my anxiety's in the negatives. Normal person would probably have their body shut down, it's that relaxing." Blake oddly smiled at a thought before continuing. "By the way, I think that lady was lying. Unless she followed us home, she'd have no normal way to find you here. Everyone at the library knows not to give out my address, even Dewi…... especially Dewi."
Greer looked. "Well she didn't say that's how she found me I kinda assumed.... maybe she has people finding powers... anyway... rent money?" She pulled it out again, "I mean I'll be here a few months so hopefully this'll cover it ... cause I have zero dollars."
"Luce handles everyone's rent, collecting everyone's part and paying the total every month, but I don't think he'll accept you paying. Unless you plan on moving in indefinitely, he'll likely consider you a long term guest. And guests don't pay rent."
"But I'm going to add to the water bill and food bill.... and Dewi was saying something about Dr Holmes making me a room and not the couch..." Greer looked at the money and tucked it away. At least he didn't use the L word.
Blake could sympathize with her need to contribute, but he knew Luce wasn’t going to budge on not letting her pay rent..... "Well.... maybe you can help out with food a little. Luce might have my head if he finds out, but my meds are making me not care right now. If you want, we can walk to the store around the corner... I was supposed to pick up some groceries after my shift anyways."
Greer smiled. "Ok great. I don't mind walking." She had her shoes on and was halfway out the door in no time.
