A women in her late twenties returns to her hometown, which is so small that everyone knows everyone. It is nearly impossible to keep a secret. Within a day everyone knows your personal business you can't go anywhere without gossip. However, this is the first time in ten years since she has been in this town. She left with her childhood sweetheart and returned home alone. Everyone had high hopes for the couple. They put all their hopes and dreams in just that couple to put their town back on the map.
The young couple planned on getting married and having many children. Unfortunately, that never happened. When his dreams came true he spent less and less time with her. They lived in the same house but barely ever saw each other, she was well and truly alone. He was gaining fame and money when she was struggling. Their love drifted, so she had to end things. It was gutrenching she couldn't eat or sleep she fell ill.
About 3 weeks passed he moved on so quickly. Every time she turned on the T.V all she saw was him and his new girl. She had no proper home and her health deteriorated. Her sadness grew and she was reduced to skin and bones. When she looked in the mirror she couldn't recognise herself. So she thought she should face the music and go home to her family. It took her a few months to act on this thought.
So when she finally decided to face the music she took trains and buses to reach home. When she reached the top of the town her nerves kicked in. Butterflies filled her shriveled stomach, her heart was beating out of her chest. She walked down the street nothing but stares and whispers about their relationship which ended six months ago. Now she questions her choice to return. Not because of the gossip but because of the memories here. Their first kiss and the first I love you, when he nervously asked her out. All the good times and a few bad times were here.
Their hopes and dreams happened in the middle of nowhere. She is older, wiser and now bitter. She has never felt loneliness until she left this old, small town.
She has to start afresh otherwise she will get nowhere. At last she reaches home the smell of freshly made apple pie filled the room. The saxophone playing in the background. Her mother and father humming along. The small tattered house was still the same. Her mother greeted her with a hug and her father looking worried he barely recognized his own flesh and blood. She explained what happened how his dreams grew and how he became cold towards her. Not returning home until six in the morning smelling of alcohol and cheap perfume. Seeing him on T.V with all those beautiful women.
Her father grew angry, how could that man treat his daughter so coldly. He remembered the promise his daughter's ex made. It was he would never make her feel lonely and hold her close whenever he could. Never let her go until she pushes him away. It hurt he did the opposite.
He was pleased At least one person was by his child's side even from so far away.
Another young man who was about two years older than her. He was always there from the start.
There was a time they were inseparable. Always laughing and smiling. It was rare but when they did fight they would make up within an hour if that. Then that jerk came and swept her off her feet and tossed her away like she was nothing.
