One upon the Stars

Chapter 3

Chapter 3

Aug 11, 2019

Altair felt his heart begin to flutter nervously as he approached the library door. After a moment's hesitation, he pushed the door open. Tristain was nose deep in a book, sitting by a large paned window. His blonde hair almost glimmered like stars in the night sky, the golden wings shimmered and fidgetted as Tristain wrote something while biting his tongue. Altair felt himself smile, thinking that Tristain looked rather cute biting his tongue in thought but he soon jumped as the heavy library door closed behind him with a loud thud. Tristain's head snapped up at the sound and a smile spread across his face. "Altair!" He nearly squealed.

Altair was at a loss for words but smiled and began walking over to the table. "I wanted to talk to you again!" The blonde angel looked giddy as Altair took a seat across from him.

"So I've heard." Altair chuckled softly under his breath. Tristain truly looked adorable in his excitement. "I also came baring news. I have just been assigned to be your guardian." He leaned his chin on the palm of his hand as he gazed at Tristains blue irises. "So it seems we will have plenty of time to spend together moving forward." Altairs lips twitched into a slight smirk as he watched Tristain's cheeks color shyly.

"I didn't think I needed a guardian. Is this a good thing? I don't want to be a bother" Tristains words trailed off. The blonde shifted in his seat, unsure how to take this news. The gestures made Altair have to fight not to laugh. Seeing Tristain so uncomfortable and nervous made him smile.

"It's good news. You're not a bother at all. In fact, I'm quite pleased I was chosen to be your guardian. I've wanted to get to know you better if I'm being totally honest." He glanced down at what Tristain had been writing, but before he could read the words Tristain covered the parchment with an unlabeled book.

"Oh? Don't want me to know what you're researching?" Altair teased.

Tristain laughed nervously and muttered under his breath, "I'm just studying..."

"Studying what?" Altair rose a curious brow. He couldn't help but indulge himself in this adorable side of Tristain.

"Well, I suppose it's okay if it's you." Tristain's bright blue eyes met Altairs emerald but there was an emotion behind them, no clouding them, that Altair couldn't place. Excitement? That was the closest guess Altair had. Tristain began moving his book away timidly, uncovering the notes while holding Altairs gaze. He took a deep breath before handing the parchment to Altair, readying himself for judgment.

Altairs eyes darted to the parchment as soon as the book was moved. Once it was handed to him he began admiring Tristains handwriting. It was like a master of calligraphy, elegant and delicate, much like the angel who wrote it. One he began reading, his brows knit together.

"Mating rituals of humans?" he queried. Tristain nodded slowly.

"I find it fascinating, and curious. I have never encountered a human yet but I've seen scriptures saying they look just like us but without wings!" Tristain's eyes lit with excitement. Altair continued reading all forms of biology notes about the human body, and their reproductive systems. Then the notes became strange. What could have been an anatomy textbook became fulled with lewd descriptions of human intercourse. The detail was nearly sickening, on top of that there were personal notes scribbled on the sides as well. One comment read "if humans can procreate, why can't we? Can we "mate"? Can we "love"?" Altair looked up at Tristain, dumbfounded.

He leaned across the table and whispered into Tristain's ear, "Things like this are what caused Lucifer to be cast from heaven! You must be careful with such blasphemous queries!" Altair almost hissed the words into the blonde's ear. Through this moment he felt many things, fear, disgust, and arousal. Tristain's scent seemed to dance around him, taunt him and made his mind wander to places it never belonged.

Altair quickly retreated and sat back in the chair. "Burn it. For your own safety. I'll pretend we didn't have this conversation." Heat began to course through Altairs body, the images, the detail on mating; all Altair could think about was what if he and Tristain-

Tristain suddenly grabbed the parchment and tore it up. "Fine. I have it memorized anyway." Was he angry? Altair couldn't tell. He knit his brows together again and tilted his head to the side slightly. "Are you angry with me Tristain? I only want to protect you."

"I'm not angry. I'm a little disappointed. I thought you would be interested in these things. I mean you're Altair! You've seen humans up close and you've never thought or wondered?" Tristain explained and leaned against the back of his chair.

"I did wonder, once." He admitted. "But that was before Lucifer was cast from heaven. I'm not sure if you know but I had to help Michael in the great war. I was one of the few who had to help cast Lucifer from heaven." he sighed heavily.

"What?" All of the excitement and happiness seemed to drain from Tristain's face. He nearly whispered the words. "I'm so sorry Altair, I didn't know."

"It's fine. The past is the past." Altair waved a hand dismissively. "Just, please be careful. Now then. We need to pack our rooms, we will be relocated shortly." He smiled, though the smile didn't reach his eyes.

"What? We are being relocated?" Tristain looked at Altair with a very obviously confused look on his face.

"Yeah. We are going to be sharing living quarters, according to Michael. Or maybe we will just be moved to rooms that are beside each other? I'm not too sure." Altair chuckled. "I'm gonna head out and start packing. I don't have much but it will still be a pain if it's not done in time. We have til the moon rises."

Tristain jumped up quickly, "I'll go too. I'd like to help you but I'll have lots to pack myself." He moved to leave with Altair while muttering 'what am I going to do with all my books?'

Altair chuckled and walked to the library door, held it open for Tristain and left without another word. On his way there he couldn't help but think Father please give me strength. How am I going to live with this guy? My sins are going to eat me alive...
