Jack's pov
After I had sat down and started listening to the teacher, I noticed that Josie was acting strange. She was looking around the room like something was bothering her. This set me on edge and something was starting to set off my senses too. I glanced around the room, hoping to not alert anyone to my suspicion. Seeing nothing, which only made me more anxious, I settled down in my chair. A movement out of the corner of my eye alerted me to the incoming fireball from the window. Quickly, I tackled Josie out of her chair and onto the floor.
She let out a small scream when we hit the ground and started breathing heavily. Everywhere around us was chaos. I moved to jump to my feet and Josie looked at me. Grabbing her wrist and pulling her up I said,
“ Come on we have to go.” I pulled her out of the room by her wrist. Come on how did they find her so quickly. They must have found the others too. We need to get to the safe space and quickly at that. Her frantic voice snapped me out of my thinking,
“ Where are we going?” “ What just happened.” I replied just as quick,
“ The darkness has found you and we need to get away from here as quickly as possible.” She was asking me so many questions that I couldn’t possibly answer them all at once.
“ What darkness? Who caught up to us? Jack what is going on? I don’t even know you?” Her voice was steadily getting louder.
“ I’ll explain when we’re somewhere safe.”
I pulled her out to my car and opened the door for her. For a moment she just looked at me. I didn’t have time to explain the urgency of the situation to her, so I just pushed her into the passenger seat and slammed the door behind her. I slid across the hood of the car and quickly jammed myself into the driver's seat. Pausing only to make sure she was buckled in, I revved the engine and barreled out of the parking lot.
Racing out into the street, I drove down the road looking for the fastest way to the safe house. When I found the way, and we were almost there, was when I looked over to see Josie. She was pale and shaking.
“ Look I know you’re terrified, but I promise to explain when we’re at the safe house. Okay,” I murmured hoping my voice was somewhat soft. For a minute it looked like she had heard a word I said, but slowly she turned her head to look at me and shakily nodded. Okay good. She can respond. Not completely out of her mind scared.
Turning up the street to the safe house was the most relieving feeling. We were going to be fine. I pulled the car into the driveway and got out the car and slumped over to the passenger door to help Josie out the car. She was still shaking like a leaf. I couldn’t blame her. She had seen things that didn’t make any sense to her.
“ Come on into the house,” I mumbled guiding her through the door and closing it firmly behind us.
