In my last life, I was an editor.
I liked to read and create stories but my writing was bad.
Though it seemed I had quite the talent to be an editor.
Most of the novels I took care of became tremendous hits. And so the company gave me most of its promising works.
The last work I was in charge of in my last life was called “The omega emperor”.
It was an amateur novel being published online and had quite a huge amount of popularity.
That was the first time I heard about omegaverse.
It seemed this gender was becoming very popular at the time.
People not only could be divided into males and females but also in another three genders: alpha, beta, and omega.
These three genders were called the main genders and determined the type of pheromones people produced.
Alphas were the elites of the world. However, their fertility was low. They produced pheromones that could attract omegas.
Betas were the “working bees” of this society. Their pheromones were more discreet than that of alphas and omegas. But they could still be a little affected by the other genders' pheromones.
And at the bottom of the society were the omegas. They are seen only as fertility tools or as sluts. They have heats every three months and their pheromones can make alphas go crazy. Because of it, it’s difficult for them to get a proper job. The only way to stop their heat influence on the other genders was to be marked by an alpha.
I won’t give many details about it but, simply, a mark was established when an alpha bite the omega’s neck while having sex during the heat. A marked omega, from then on, could only affect his alpha with his pheromones.
Besides male alphas, all the other genders could get pregnant. And besides omegas, all the other genders could make their partner pregnant.
It took a while for me to understand just this, but the author also wrote about dominant, normal, and recessive alphas and omegas.
The perfectionist inside of me became very on edge because of the casual way the author explained about it.
Scientists would want to bite the author’s head because of his half-hearted explanation about the whole dominant and recessive thing. Even the readers were quite confused about it. The author basically wrote that dominants usually were born in pure lineages. Nothing was written about recessive and normal alphas and omegas besides the fact that recessives had weaker pheromones and heats.
To make him write a better explanation for this was one of the reasons for the fights I had with the author. And we fought a lot.
Once he even threw a vase towards my head.
Luckily, I was confident in my reflexes as I had studied martial arts for most of my life.
We were the worst combination possible.
I have to say that his ideas and writing style were amazing. He gave exactly what the readers wanted. Just enough action, romance, and drama together with lots of very hot sex scenes.
However, there were just too many plot holes!
As a perfectionist editor, I just couldn’t ignore it. I knew that if he just changed or gave some explanations to fix those roles, his popularity would soar even more.
But he didn’t think like that. He thought changing these things would change the essence of the story. It wouldn’t be his story anymore. And so he ignored most advice I gave. This is the reason we fought a lot.
To the point, he started to hate me completely.
He even gave my name to a cannon fodder character who died quite the gruesome death.
Yeah, you should have guessed. That’s the character I reincarnated into.
The story about this novel is about Yi Wei, a male dominant omega. In the world of this novel, there are just two countries the Alpha federation and the Sun Empire. Yi Wei is a young man from the Sun Empire who went to the Alpha federation disguised as a beta to study in its best academy. That’s what it seemed at first but in fact, he is part of the Omega Freedom league, a resistance movement that was getting very strong at the Sun empire.
At first Yi Wei focused only on his role as a spy to bring the Omega resistance inside the federation but everything becomes more and more complicated as he gets involved with Asher Hayes, alpha and the only son of the current president of the nation.
Anyway, it’s a story about how an omega gets love as he fights for omega’s rights.
So who exactly is Nolan Riverstone?
He is a complete cannon fodder character.
To be more precise, he was married off by his family to the male lead. So he was the biggest love rival of the protagonist.
Although it was an arranged marriage, he fell in love at first sight with the male lead and made everything in his power to stay with him. So he obstructed the protagonist a lot.
But you know what’s the usual way these types of cannon fodders end in trashy novels.
They die a miserable death.
After discovering that this cannon fodder gave the protagonist a drug to promote heat which caused him ( protagonist) to end up sleeping with the villain, the male lead was furious. So the male lead gave the cannon fodder the same heat-inducing drug and put him on a cell with 20 alphas...
You know the rest.
The law of this omegaverse world said that as long as an omega had sexual relations with a person who was not his husband, the husband had the right to unilaterally ask for a divorce. No matter if the omega was raped. The one at fault was always him.
A divorced omega received the scorn of all society. The cannon fodder Nolan knew his family wouldn’t want to receive him back since he was no longer pure. He had no family, no education, and no job prospects in a world where the hurdles for an omega to get a decent job were incredibly high. His only choice would be to sell his body to survive.
His pride was too high to even consider that. In the end, he killed himself.
After that, the journals wrote that an omega killed himself after his husband caught him cheating. People called him by many filthy names on the internet. No person even attended his funeral. No one even cried for his death.
This scene really realistically depicted the cruel reality omegas faced in this universe. The male lead had many ways to deal with the old Nolan, but he had chosen the cruelest: the one that denied his condition as a human being. In the end, you‘re just a slut. A breeding tool for alphas to have fun with.
That’s the last message the ML gave to him.
The moment this cannon fodder character received his gender results at the age of ten, he lost everything he thought he had. He would not inherit his parents’ industry, nor would he continue to study. His father never saw him anymore, his mother would say disgusting things about him every time she saw him. Even his little brother, thanks to his parents’ influence, would see him as nothing more as filth. Once a week he would receive the visit of a bridal teacher, but besides that he would stay in his bedroom, forbidden from seeing anyone. He was painfully aware that his family only saw him as a breeding tool.
The male lead and the protagonist were not together anymore at the time of old Nathan’s marriage to Asher. Hayer’s heir was the first person to give Nolan warmth for a very long time.
At the time, the little omega thought someone finally saw him as a person, not just a fertility tool. He didn’t want to lose the respect and warmth he longed for no matter what. In the end, he committed a very horrible thing and was completely denied by the person he loved.
The part of CF Nolan's flashbacks and death was very acclaimed by most of the readers. It was the first time in the novel that the readers felt and understood the cruel reality of omegas in this universe. It also made the protagonist painfully aware that even the person he liked the most and seemed to treat omegas much better than most alphas still saw his gender as beneath him.
Nolan’s death became a hurdle in the relationship between the male lead and the protagonist, which added to a lot of drama in the novel. They had just gotten together again when I died and reincarnated here.
Yay, I don’t know the end of the novel! This. Is. Just. Great.
For those who didn’t notice it, that was sarcasm.
