“Agh!” As I went through the portal, I took a last glance at it before it disappeared in thin air again. I tried to turn around to face Kuro, but that didn’t go well since I was somersaulting in the air. To be more exact I was levitating in space!
Everywhere I looked at there were stars and planets. I was mesmerized by this new-found experience, but that excitement disappeared soon when fear had stricken me as I remembered that you can’t breathe in space.
I hold in my breath and covered my mouth with my hands ensuring that no oxygen go wasted.
“Don’t worry you can breathe here.” He laughed.
I started to breathe again and was about to give Kuro a piece of my mind, but I was again mesmerized by what I saw next. Kuro had taken another form and that form was magical. Kuro had taken a form of a panther which made him a lot of sizes bigger; he had a pair of beautiful big white wings on his back with armors on them giving him the vibe of a knight and lastly on his forehead there was the family crest stone with the color of the galaxy.
“Welcome to my domain.”
“Your domain?” I asked.
“Yes, every celestial beast got a domain to teach or nurture the young fairies that they are assigned to.” He explained.
“But is this the real space?”
He nodded. “Yes?”
I raised an eyebrow. “Then how can I breathe right now?”
“The domain that the celestial beast is assigned to has a correlation to the power of the fairy that they have to take care of. Which means that you, Ayako, have a strong affinity with space and that’s why you can breathe here.” He snapped with fingers and brought forth a school desk with a chair. He made a gesture for me to sit on it.
I stared reluctantly at it but sat on it anyways. “But aren’t I the fairy of nature, so shouldn’t I have an affinity with trees or something like that; you know somewhere with green scenery?”
“Remember what your mom said?” he waved a little bit with his paw and a bunch of bookshelves filled with books suddenly appeared surrounding me and Kuro. “The nature fairy is a rare type of fairy clouded in mysteries with unlimited potential.” He pulled out a super thin book from one of the bookshelves and threw it on my desk. The cover of the book had dull brown color but had an authentic feel to it; next to that he took a bunch of pile of other books and put that next to the thin book.
“This pile of books contains all the information about water fairies, but that...” Kuro pointed at the thin book. “That’s the only book that has any information about the nature fairy.” He said.
I looked at him in shock. “You’re joking, aren’t you?”
“Nope.” He simply said.
“But how?”
“It happened around the time when the fairies still co-existed with the humans.”
He opened the book starting on the first page.
“The fairies of nature where since way back seen as godly creatures. With just a snap of a finger they were able to create a new life out of nothing. With just a single word they could elaborate a land; even among the fairies they were something untouchable.” He turned over a new page. “They could see things that no one could they could speak in a language that was forgotten, but despite all of that power they were a kind folk.” He started to sigh deeply as he turned over to the next page. “The humans started to take advantage of their kindness and locked them up to use them for their own good. The fairies were livid, blinded by their anger of what the humans had done they started a war. Many casualties had taken place both for humans and fairies. In the end the fairies won and as punishment they erased the existence of fairies and magical creature from the human mind and history.”
“What happened then?” I blurred out of curiosity.
He gave me a sad smile and turned over the page, but there was nothing on the page. In confusion I looked up at Kuro.
“Nothing. That was the only thing recorded about the nature fairy’s history.”
In denial I took the book from under Kuro’s paw and flipped through the pages. None. There was nothing about how the nature fairies lived after that. Only some small information about how we work.
“But how can that be? So, there’s literally no more information about how they had lived after that or why we have become so rare?” I asked in denial.
Kuro shook his head. “From what we celestial beast are told was that the nature fairies were under protection. They would be locked up at a special place where they can live in peace without any communication from the outside world and that only few selected high raked fairies no about this.”
“So, I should be- “
“Locked up.” Kuro said finishing my sentence.
Chills run down my spine.
“I should even hand you over to the high commission.” He said while looking me in the eyes with his navy-blue ones.
Fear struck me. I stood up and backed few meters away from Kuro. Glowered at him in defense.
He just looked at me calmly. “Relax Ayako. If those were my intentions then I would have handed you over the moment you were born, but I didn’t. I care about your mom as if she is my daughter which makes you my granddaughter. I would never hand you over to them.” He said the last part sneering.
Hearing that I felt relieved. “So, what now?” I asked.
“I’m going to do my job as a celestial beast and teach you how to control your powers. Mind you, you’re the first nature fairy that I ever had to guide, so this is gong to be a challenge for me too.” He smiled softly at me.
I laughed “Well if it makes you feel any better, you’re my first celestial beast.” I sat down.
He gave me cat like grin revealing his sharp front tooth. “Let’s get started.”
