“SHIT!”

In the moment it takes for a person to blink, Surii has already sprung up and reached for the left edge of his mattress. He quickly and firmly grips the lining of the bed and yanks the entire mattress over his entire body, encasing himself inside of its protective haven like a turtle retracting into its shell from a threat. He bends the mattress in a way that even the mattress didn’t know was possible and braces himself.

A full second later, an explosion with the force like that fired from a tank’s cannon, hits room twelve and sends Surii and his mattress flying across the room. Anticipating this, Surii uses his makeshift shield of cotton and fabric to absorb the brunt of the blast, which surprisingly does a great job at doing so. This does not, however, prevent Surii from flying through the air, speeding towards the wall opposite from where he once comfortably rested. With him and his mattress in tow approaching the wall at a rapid one-hundred and fifty feet per second, he boasts his elegant, acrobatic dexterity by using the momentum from the blast to turn himself around in mid-air, so that it’s the mattress that slams into the wall in front of him, and not his face. His efforts are successful, and the bottom side of the mattress smacks into the opposite wall, cushioning his collision and saving him from needing hours of facial reconstructive surgery.

A second still hasn’t passed since the explosion sprung him across the room and still within that tiny frame of time, all the contents of everything that wasn’t nailed to the floor go flying together, including the bed-frame. This frame, which was once synonymous with themes of stability and support, is now replaced with peril and death.

Without even making eye contact with it, Surii delivers a powerful, frontal kick directly at the spine of the bed-frame that was about to smash into him. It splits into two mangled pieces of wood and ricochets violently off of the wall behind him. Metal springs, shards of glass, and pieces of debris of all kinds, crash and shatter all around him, raining down onto the floor in a single instant.
