My name is Lucille Jones. My life was very normal I’m 17, I have a loving family my step-mom would always be there for me. My dad was loving and always knew how to cheer me up. I had 5 little half-siblings I know it sounds like a lot but I’m the oldest so I have lots of control, but I love my family. We don’t like to say half-siblings because we are so close.
I’m the oldest of 6 children as I said earlier. My youngest sister is named Victoria; she is 11. The second youngest is my brother Quinn; he is 12. The middle children are the twins; they’re 13, my brother Lawrence and my sister Lynn. Lynn has a crush on a boy named Spencer. We tease her for it. The second oldest is my sister Nikoletta; she is 14. Then me the oldest Lucille.
My father got to name me because my mother passed giving birth to me. He named me after my mom her name was Lucille Veronica Jones. That’s my name to and also why all my siblings are my half-siblings.
I’ve always been smart. There is one thing that confuses me. I always look for a reasonable answer, but in this situation, I have no answer. There is one boy who is never in class, but every honor roll paper that comes out he has the best grade. I have tried so hard to get a better grade than him but no matter what I do, his name taunts me. Every time I see it, all I can think about is: I will never be better than him. I’m always going to be second best to him.
Every day the teacher says his name on the attendance sheet nobody responds she looks at her computer and marks him present at first I thought he was doing an online course that was taught to him through his home computer. Which is fine, but it bothers me because he is never here and the only thing I know about him is he doesn’t go to school; he is like a shadow.
Other than my war with this guy my life is pretty great. My siblings are great but a few years after Lynn asked Spencer on a date he disappeared. His brother is my rival and he doesn’t even show up to school so I even can’t ask him. It’s like he just left. Lynn was never the same. She was a bubbly girl who always thought the best but after Spencer disappeared she turned into a sad shell of her former self who always blames herself for Spencer’s disappearance.
I was never the type to go to parties but at our homecoming party, my friends and I were invited to the big party hosted by the jocks so we had to go. That was a mistake. We all got really drunk and we were being stupid. So some of my friends and I went to the “hill house”. The “hill house” was a house on a hill and the people who lived there never left. We all thought a murderer lived there because you would hear three different screams; a woman’s but nobody heard her anymore, a young boy but his screams stopped around the time Spencer disappeared, and an older boy but his were less often and you could tell he wasn’t scared; he could stand up for himself. With us being drunk we went there and knocked on the door and ran to the side of the house. I don't know what they saw because I went around to the back of the house and looked through one of the windows.
I will never forget what I saw. I saw a boy around my age It seemed. He was on his bed I’m guessing with a computer in his lap. The thing was he had two horns on top of his head and one of his eyes was red and black with a scar running through it. I ran back to the party house and continued to enjoy the party. Almost immediately after I got back my friends followed. I was so confused and scared about what I saw. But, the thing is, on the wall above the boy’s bed was a sign that said “Asher” on it. Asher is the name of the guy in my class who I compete for the best grade.
It's been three years since then and I moved out I have a crappy apartment and a job. I didn’t want to go to college. But, in the past three years, I’ve never told anyone what I saw in the hill house.
