My eyes snapped open when I heard the doorknob twist. I held my breath as I silently clambered to my feet. I was about to step out of the closet, but I froze when I heard Zane's voice.
"Where is the omega?" He growled.
"What do you mean? I left him in here." A voice replied. I assumed it was his beta, Laikynn.
"Well, I don't see him do you?" Zane retorted.
I should have come out already, but I was so scared. My heart was hammering again, and my stomach was in knots. Just as I was building up enough courage to push open the closet door, it was ripped open.
I started back with a gasp; my hands flew to my chest in an attempt to keep my heart from escaping. I stared up at Laikynn with wide eyes.
"I found him." The beta called without taking his eyes off of me.
"Bloody hell," I heard Zane say moments before the door was jerked open farther to reveal the Alpha. My eyes darted down to the floor as I bowed my head.
"I'm sorry." I tried to say, but my voice cracked, and it came out barely above a whisper.
"What the hell are you doing in the closet? Trying to hide from me already?" Zane sneered.
Despite my best efforts, I flinched at his harsh tone. I closed my eyes and shook my head slightly. "N-no. I fell asleep." I murmured. I tried desperately to keep my self from holding my breath as I waited for his reply. I could feel their eyes boring holes into my head, and it did nothing to help me calm down.
I heard one of them huff before I was roughly grabbed by my upper arm and dragged out of the closet. I yelped and struggled to keep up. I was led across the room and practically thrown onto the bed.
"Zane," Laikynn warned like a mother would her child who was 3 seconds away from being scolded.
I slowly sat up on the edge of the bed, keeping my head bowed, I fisted my hands in the comforter on either side of me.
"Take your shirt off," Zane ordered.
My heart clenched, and my lungs forgot how to work. I felt the first prick of tears as I glanced at Laikynn from the corner of my eyes. Slowly, to slowly, I raised my hands to remove my shirt.
"Now!" Zane barked, warning that his patience was wearing thin.
I jumped and caused whimper to escape my throat. I tried to take deep breaths, but the snot filling my nose made it difficult, and I refuse to open my mouth.
As I quickly grabbed the hem of my soft, worn grey T'shirt and pulled it over my head, Laikynn yelled at Zane again. "Zane! Calm the fuck down! Can't you see he's terrified?"
Zane didn't seem to pay his beta any attention as he reached out and grabbed a handful of my hair at the back of my head. I started to raise my hand to hold his arm but quickly thought better of it and kept my hands twisted in my shirt in my lap.
"I'm going to mark you," Zane said as he grabbed my left shoulder and tilted my head to the side. There was no stopping the tears running down my face now. I was trembling like a leaf at this point, but I promised myself I wouldn't cry out loud if I could help it. So I set my jaw and squeezed my eyes shut as I tried to prepare myself for his teeth to meet my skin.
I felt him lean forward, and I felt his warm breath on my skin a split second before he bit into my flesh where my neck and shoulder met. It hurt. It hurt so much more then I thought it would. My vowes to keep still and keep my mouth shut flew out the window. My eyes bulged from their sockets as I screamed and thrashed around. My hands grabbed at his that was holding my hair and pushed against his chest. I couldn't get him off of me, so my nails bite into his wrist while my other hand clung to his shirt. I whimpered and cried and prayed to God that he let go soon.
It only lasted a few seconds, but it felt like minutes when Zane pulled away and let go of me altogether. My hands clamped over the bite as I fell onto my side and scooted across the bed away from him. I pulled my knees in close and tried to be quiet. I cautiously kept peeking up at Zane, but he seemed to lose interest in me. He wiped the blood from his mouth with the back of his hand. I felt a shiver run up and down my spine when I saw his red eyes for a second.
I saw him turn and leave the room without another word. The door shut, and I was left alone. I was filled with relief. I closed my eyes and focused on breathing instead of the pain radiating from my neck. I just wanted to go to sleep.
I nearly went into cardiac arrest when I felt a hand touch my shoulder. I sat bolt upright and twisted around to see Laikynn with his hands up.
"Sorry, sorry. It's okay. I just want to bandage that bite, okay?"
I forgot he was even here.
Laikynn reached out to grab me, and I shied away. "I'm not going to hurt you, okay?" His voice was soft and gentle. Much different from the cold indifference I got from his the first time. When he leaned over the bed with his hand extended, I didn't pull away. His fingers touched my arm, and he gently guided me to the edge of the bed. I was instructed to lie down with my back to him like I had been before he gave me a heart attack.
I wrapped my arms around myself and pulled my knees up while Laikynn sprayed something on the mark that made it sting. Then he tapped a gauze pad over it. By the time he had finished, I had calmed down a bit. My eyes had drifted closed when Laikynn stopped. I didn't hear him for a little while, but then I felt his hand on my hair. I flinched as my eyes opened. I tensed and waited for the pain that always follows, but all the beta did was run his fingers through my hair. I think he was trying to comfort me, but all it did was make my skin crawl. When I couldn't take it anymore, I pressed my head into the pillow and tried to move away from him a little bit.
"I'm sorry." He said in a low voice.
I heard him stand up, walk around the bed, and I saw him open and close the door as he left.
Sure that I was alone this time, I sat up enough to pull the blankets back on the bed and slid under them. I pulled the covers up over my head and curled up.
I want to go to sleep and forget, I thought as my eyes closed once again.
