Chapter 4:

Aaron's POV:

It took her a month to get well enough that they could discharge her from the hospital. He insisted that she should be kept under observation for some time  but she was adamant on leaving the place , the sight of that place kept her in constant fear so she wanted to go home. Even if he wanted her to stay he couldn't do much because of her lack of consent , he was helpless and had to submit to her wish so he reluctantly agreed like the rest of the staff. She rarely spoke now and when she spoke her words were barely audible. Previously she was  the most bubbly and lively person who was  constantly teasing him but after  that night  she was always quiet and looked lost , the only answer to any of the questions were to look at her hands and not meet the other person's eyes . Apart from Aaron and the female staff, she would refuse to have any male species near her. Otherwise, she would have hysterical breakdowns it took several sedatives to calm her down. Every time he tried to leave her side or she felt he was leaving her side she would be a sobbing mess. Grabbing onto his arm and begging him not to leave. At times she would threaten him with her intention to commit suicide. Nights were the most difficult part. Not a single night passed in peace or without her screaming her head off. That night never left her the same, she was just the broken shell of a person she ones was. Her eyes were empty and she stopped speaking. The scars on her body were fading away but the pain was getting intense and unbearable. He knew she was suffering silently and she refused to tell him the true extent. She refused to see anyone but him. His work was getting affected too but he stayed by her side and refused to leave her alone. Nothing meant much to him now just her.

It was one of those days when the weather was warm. A day before there was heavy rain that had flooded the streets. He was cooking for both of them but the food tasted bland and tasteless.

"I am going to order something. Do you want something sweetheart?"

"Spicy rice cakes and kimchi." When he called rang the only Korean restaurant near their place. The person on the other end told him that sadly he had to pick the food himself since today they had no riders to do that. He quickly grabbed his coat and wallet and went to her room. A part of him wanted her to go with him but the other part wanted to let her stay at home since she was scared to go out and face so many people.He feared that seeing so many people could bring back her painful memories and she will be in pain again.

"I will be back sweetheart."

"Where are you going?" There was panic in her voice.

"I am just going to go to the restaurant and grab our food. I promise it won't take long." She nodded her head in understanding.

"I love you, sweetheart." He pulled her in his arms softly and placed a loving kiss on her forehead and then her hand. He wasn't aware it was the last time he was going to see her and listen to her voice.

Sophie POV:

"I love you, Aaron."She whispered as he was pulling out of their driveway. It pained her to see him for one last time but she didn't want him to go through that pain every day that both of them were suffering. She was being so unfair and cruel to both her and him. It was hard to hide her pain every day and try to live for him. It was so painful and at moments she had felt herself drowning and suffering more and more. Every day was a drag on and a war to survive without breaking down or do something to herself just to end the horror and pain of that night. The thought came to her only yesterday and she knew a part of her couldn't bring herself to do it but a part of herself told her that she was being selfish. Aaron could live without her and learn to survive without her. She had picked up the pen and the note and started writing.

"Dear Aaron, I know when you will read this I will be gone . Remember that I loved you always and will love you forever. I will watch over you from afar and pray that when we meet. We meet in happiness and joy. Thank you for completing me always and forever, I love you, Aaron. I am sorry you had to bear this all alone but just hang in there. The pain will go away and you and I will be happy again. Aaron Cohen,You were the only one for me and I want to say I love you one last time."

Her hands trembled when she wrote the note. It was the hardest thing that she did in her life.Her eyes brimmed with tears that shimmered and overflowed down her face, some tears even fall on the paper in the process.She could hardly see through her tears. She moved the sprout on her bathtub , the water started gushing out and soon the tub started filling to the top. She took a deep breath and stepped in the tub. The sharp knife in her hand felt heavy and burning hot all of a sudden. She let her self sink to the bathtub surface and brought the knife to her wrist. The first time she cut herself the skin sliced through her skin cutting it like paper. Blood dissolved in the water. She with shaky hand tried her luck again. This time she cut it so severely that blood started gushing out. Than she cut herself one more time. The water started filling her lungs until she couldn't breath.The water burned her lungs and she was forced to rise to the surface.She started coughing and vomiting out the water. The blood from her hand gushed out and soon she was losing her consciousness.Until the only thing she could see around her was darkness. The room was getting out of her focus and her eyes were so heavy. Her body went under the water but she didn't try to get out of there or do anything.She let the water take her away from the cruel reality. A part of her thought she was being carried far away from the reach of the monsters that clawed to get to her.

Aaron's POV:

"I am back." He called after him as he placed his shoes in the rack. The hot food containers were still in his other hand. He had to stuff them under his arm. He looked for her everywhere but couldn't find her. He searched for her desperately , shouted her name and looked around like a crazy person. He was worried sick when he heard rushing of water sounds coming from the washroom. This made him sigh in relief. He thought she left . He knocked on the door ones but no answer. He knocked again but no one replied all he could hear was rushing of water sounds. He stated getting impatient and a part of him feared for worst things. He pounded on the door like a mad man but she didn't answer back until he was forced to break down the door. To his horror the sight in front of him was gristly and had him stopping in his track. He rushed to take her out of the bathtub. She was alive and losing her consciousness . The blood kept pouring out. She was rushed to the hospital.

"I am sorry Aaron we tried to do everything we could do to possibly save her but your girlfriend." He didn't wait for him to finish and rushed inside. She was in coma and it was hard to determine if she would wake up any time soon. He broke down crying. It was as if someone has pulled the rug from underneath him.His world was shattered into tiny fragments.
