Sara glanced back to see a few of the things that were running from the lot stopped and had turned around, “Hey those things went back into the parking lot.”
“Something must be louder than the door.”
They kept in the shadows and stayed low as they approached the street, “My place it that building there. It seems like those things aren’t around right now. We can make a run now for it.” John said as he bolted across. Sara and Smith followed behind. They made it to the entrance and John pulled out his key chain. He waved it up on a key pad and. The light turned green. He pulled open the door and everyone pilled inside. The door shut and Sara collapsed to the ground.
“I haven’t run in forever. My legs feel dead to me.” Sara whined.
“Let’s catch our breath here. We have to climb thirty floors now to my place. I don’t want to chance the elevator breaking on us.”
Sara sighed as she leaned against the wall in the hallway. “Looks as though the power in the building is still good.” Smith said as he glanced back at the door, “You know that keypad needs power to open up? What would you have done if the power had been out?”
“Well the power comes from. Solar panels above us, so I wasn’t too worried about it.” John said as he leaned against the wall.
“The door flung open as Ted and Tim burst through suddenly.
“You guys made it?” Smith cried
As he wrapped his hands around Ted, “The things on the other side of the door stopped and seemed to be distracted by some loud gun shots coming from the parking lot. We bolted then right for this building before they came back. Maybe it was smart to leave when we did. People were already fighting out front it seemed.”
Smith let go of Ted, “It hasn’t even been an hour and people are. Already panicking.”
“It is because they are noticing that this is no normal virus.” John stated as. He glanced out the door, “People are going to start to pillage once they notice the cops won’t come to stop them.”
“Tim leaned against the wall and slid down next to Sara, “I keep forgetting how awful some people truly are in the world.”
They stayed in silence for a little bit till finally John stopped leaning against the wall, “Let’s start heading up.”
“That glass for that door, wont it break if. Someone hits it?” Tim asked as he stood up and tapped on the glass.
“Its plexy glass and also double paned. Good luck trying to break into it. “
Tim tapped on it for a second and then helped Sara get to her feet.
“It is so quiet in your building.” Sara said as they passed a few doors.
“Most people are still asleep at this hour. Its barely seven in the morning. We will start to hear more panic once nine or so comes.”
“What if someone lets those things inside?” Sara asked as she looked back at the door.
“Hopefully They don’t open the door if someone is foaming at the mouth at it.” John replied as they finally got to the stair case. They walked up to the thirteenth floor and stepped into the hallway.
“Sara took a deep breath and sighed, “No wonder elevators where created.”
