Love Sucks Q&A

These were questions asked by you guys and some I came up with myself. If you have any more questions after reading this, ask them in the comments and I will answer them!

1. What/ who inspires my characters?

Okay, so all my character are partly inspired by a game I played as a child with my cousins and sisters. I made it up when I was about 6. We used to play house but that was boring to me so I said why don’t we play any character, meaning we could be anyone we wanted from a tv show, cartoon, movie, book, manga, anime, etc. We called the game any character and basically we would all be characters from whatever and have them interact with each other. As we got older we began to make up our own characters and soon we had a whole cast of original characters so a lot of my characters are based on the characters I made and grew up with as a child. Also, each character has a bit of my own personality sprinkled in and represent things that I have seen in my life growing. Some of the things my characters say are literally pulled right from my life. This goes for all my characters not just this book.

2. What can we expect in book 2?

Expect a little bit of a shift. Book one focused a lot on friendship and romance. Well, this book will have that too but now there is a threat looming over our favorite couple and they can’t exactly relax and enjoy their love for one another. Things are sort of going to be strained between them. Yes we will still have a lot of cute fluffy moments but there will be more action, more world-building going on, a bigger focus on some side characters that sort of got put in the background in book one. So there is a sort of shift you can expect, as our characters try and find the balance of being in love and wanting to protect each other, to needing space and room to grow on their own. It will be a sort of teeter-totter the whole book. And it will push out characters out of their comfort zones as both Lyssa and Bex move into new territory with each other and try to establish the dynamics of their new relationship. Stuff like that so I hope you guys are as excited as I am.

3. Will we get to see more of Bex’s family and friends?

Bex’s family and friends play a key role in this book. We were certainly be focusing a bit more on them this time around as I meant to do in book one but didn’t because I wanted to focus on the relationship development between Lyssa and Bex. Bex’s family sort of adds a new layer to things. As Bex struggling with balancing her new life and working on a way to remain safe and out of vampire harm she now has to add keeping her life a secret from her family. Something that she has never done before. Bex has always had her family to go to and talk to but now she doesn’t really have that anymore. She can’t really talk to them as she used to. It puts a strain on her to keep everything together on her own and solve her own problems, but also a stain on her family as they start to worry about Bex. As she is acting strange and ever since Lyssa came around, she hasn’t been quite herself. So that will definitely be a big part of the story, but also Bex’s friends’ sort of step up as well. They now know that vampires are real and so they are obligated to sort of taking action now. But also, Darci is still clueless and she begins to see her friends pulling away from her because they all know something she doesn’t, so that adds a dynamic as well. They friends and family certainly have some key parts in this book and I say makeup at least one of the top 5 important aspects of this book.

4. How did you come up with this idea?

This idea I actually came up with a couple of years back. I was writing a book called the daughter of Dracula, and I might still write that book, but basically it is self-explanatory. I was reading Dracula again for like the 5th time for a class and I’ve always loved vampires and vampire books. I have always ever since I was like 12 wanted to write my own vampire book. I love, love, love vampires. Well, I sort of abandon that book but it was about a vampire falling in love with a girl. Heavily based on the book Carmilla and the continuity of Dracula. I loved the idea of a girl vampire falling for a girl, especially because the first-ever real vampire book, Carmilla, was all about that. Even though it didn’t get much recognition and Dracula sort of stole its limelight and ideas. I wanted to go back to that root and make a play on it. So I came up with this story. A lot of the things about vampires in my lore come from Carmilla and Dracula. As a thing from here or there from the house of night series as well. Some of the things even play on the original Carmilla. Examples, Lyssa being afraid of her coffin comes from Carmilla as Carmilla was afraid of hers because she was trapped in it, sort of. Lyssa being able to turn into a cat come from Carmilla. So if you guys haven’t read it and you love vampires I highly recommend, it’s a very short book and you could probably finish it in a few hours.

5. Who is your favorite character and why?

My favorite character for this series has to be Lyssa. For a few reasons, Lyssa is very loosely based off of my favorite character from my childhood game of any character. A character I made up and was half-demon, half-angel, and was my first ever lesbian character that I created. Also, I have said before I just love vampires. So Lyssa has that going for her as well. I also love Lyssa because she is so complicated. She has a rough history and a dark background yet she still manages to get up every day and do something with herself. I love that about her. Anyways, let me know who you guys favorite characters are.

I like Joan and Lyssa , it's fun to see them fight around Bex (well, obviously I like the three of them). But yeah, vampires are the best characters, so a lesbian vampire... You rock girl :33
