Chapter 1: Bex 2.0 (Part One)

Chapter 1: Bex 2.0 (Part One)

Sep 05, 2019

Rebecca Cross, or Bex as many call her, lives anything but a typical life. As Thanksgiving ends, and the days to Christmas begin to countdown and signal the much-anticipated end of the year break of school she finds herself surrounded and preoccupied with nothing a regular girl her age should be into.

Vampires, Vampire Slayer best friends, Combat training, making decent grades in school, and hiding her secret life from her annoying parents leaves her with hardly any time for herself. As a once ordinary girl now living an extraordinary life, she finds herself locked in strict routine and more organized than ever.

Her routine goes as such,

5:30 AM – wake up and being morning training alone. Running, bodybuilding, reflex training, etc.

6:45 AM – Shower and get ready for school, being sure to eat a good breakfast.

7: 30 AM – Arrive at school and chat with friends about school

7:45 AM – Classes. Chem. Algebra, World History, Art class.

12:15 PM – Lunch with Lyssa

1:15 Pm – Lit. Band, French.

3:30 PM – Train with either Joan or Lyssa, alternating days.

5:45 PM – Take a break to hang out and plan

7:30 PM – Parents force her to get home

Then she does her homework, takes a shower, and pretends to go to bed. Sneaking Lyssa into her room for a few hours every night until she actually falls asleep.

Saturdays are her free days, and Sundays she trains all day with Lyssa.

Bex was not the only one with a newer stricter routine. Lyssa also found herself doing whatever it took to get stronger. To be ready to face Lacy again. Which meant permanently getting over her fear of coffins and sleeping in them like a normal vampire. She stays up one day and rests the next. Opting to sleep at night rather than in the day so she can still be around Rebecca. The sleep has strengthened her body ten-fold. She is as powerful and healed as she's ever been. But the sleep comes at a cost. It makes her more hungry and leaves both her and Rebecca vulnerable for a set of hours.

It was exactly 7:30 AM on the dot when Bex walked up to her usual table of friends. With the colder weather finally blowing in full force she wore a thick jacket. Under her jacket was a long-sleeved shirt, one in which Lyssa bought her. It was black with dark purple stripes on it. She has on dark purple skinny jeans, which were a little tighter on her now and days as her leg muscles made the material strain against her skin. She had on her typical checkered vans and her wet sun-bleached brown hair was pulled back into a ponytail. A purple scarf Lyssa bought her was wrapped around her neck.

Bex plopped down unceremoniously. Before counting down.

"5, 4, 3, 2, 1," she pointed at Monroe.

"Freak Queen!" He called out.

"It's creepy how you do that," Mike said.

Lyssa strode over to them. She was looking better and better every day. Her skin was pale and perfect. Her lips now a dark red with lipstick, her chartreuse eyes popping due to her smoky eyeshadow. Her black shiny hair was cut into a messy bob and fell dramatically around her face, framing it just right. She wore ripped up black shorts with lace leggings underneath. Black combat boots and a lacey looking crop top that had long sleeves. Her nails were painted red and around her neck was a red crystal necklace. As she passed Monroe she pretended to shoot him with her middle finger. She smirked when her eyes fell on Bex who was staring at her.

"How is she not freezing?" Darci asked.

"Lyssa's cold-blooded that's why." Joan chuckled at her own joke.

Lyssa took her seat next to Bex and the two quickly ensued in their usual morning make out routine.

"Aw come on guys, really, again," Mike complained.

"At least they are happy." Darci shrugged.

"Too happy." Jaden made a face.

Lyssa peeled Bex's Jacket off and loosened the scarf around her neck before pulling back.

Bex giggled.

"Morning," Lyssa whispered against her lips.

"Morning to you too. Sleep okay?" Bex asked her.

"Getting better." Lyssa shrugged.

"Okay new rule no sucking face at the table, all in favor say I," Joan said.

"I!" Everyone but Bex and Lyssa said.

"Fuck off." Lyssa rolled her eyes.

"Yeah your rules suck, I am not listening to them." Bex giggled before kissing Lyssa again.

Everyone groaned.

"Maybe we should gouge our eyes out, all in favor?" Jaden said.

"I..." everyone groaned in unison.

Bex pouted but pulled away from Lyssa.

"You guys suck, can't you see I'm in love." Bex huffed.

"Yeah well, love sucks." Joan snapped at her.

Mike and Jaden hummed in agreement.

Joan pushed up her glasses which were sliding down the bridge of her nose. Her long dark hair was braided back into a French braid. Her usual copper skin was looking a bit pale due to the lack of sun. She had on blue jeans that were rolled at the bottom, sneakers, and a plain t-shirt with a thick army green jacket over it.

"Fine, I shall keep my hands to myself, for now. Besides winter break is almost here." Lyssa smirked.

Mike giggled and made a face.

His hair was short now. It had been cut and styled. Spiked up into a more boyish look. He had filled out. His chiseled face no longer looking weird on his once scrawny body. Now he was much more filled out, he had been working out and preparing to try out for the wrestling team. He had on dark blue jeans and a long-sleeved school spirit shirt. His face is clear of any acne.

Bex rolled her eyes.

"Can we change the subject, anyone do the homework? I lost track of time last night and forgot about it." Jaden said.

Jaden was also sporting a hair cut. His once long braided hair was completely shaven off and short now. Some type of spiral design was razored on the side of his head. He wore grey sweat pants and a long-sleeve white shirt. As well as his usual baggy jacket.

"I got it." Bex pulled the homework out of her backpack.

"I swear getting a girlfriend is the best thing that happened to you. You are so much more organized now." Darci said.

"Thank you." Bex pretended to flip her hair.

Everyone laughed.

Darci looked pretty much the same as she always had. She had on black jeans and a floral looking top. A nice sweater to go on top if she was cold. Her nails were painted and designed to match her blouse. Her hair was straightened and styled. Cute snowman earrings twinkled in the light.

Jaden quickly copied the homework and the friends resumed making small chatter as they waited for the bell to ring. Once it did Lyssa walked Bex to class before going to her own class. The day went on as it usually did. With Bex paying close attention and when she was stuck on a problem asking Lyssa, through their bond, for help.

When lunch finally rolled around Lyssa and Bex snuck off as they usually did, Bex meeting Lyssa behind the school and Lyssa scooping her up in her arms and zooming off towards whatever food place Bex wanted.

Joan and the others sat at the usual table and ate the usual mediocre food. Joan sighed at Bex's empty seat.

"So, is anyone going to address that watching Bex and Lyssa together is pure torture?" Mike asked.

"Seriously, they are like animals in heat." Jaden shuddered.

"I think it's sweet." Darci shrugged.

"So sweet it will rot your teeth. God, you guys think you have it bad, I have to listen to Bex rant on and on every day about Lyssa. Lyssa this and Lyssa that. Ugh! I swear I will lose it if I have to listen to her go on one more time about how romantic Lyssa is. Like hello, still in love with her here." Joan slammed her head on the table.

"Well, you are her designated best friend." Mike shrugged.

"I quit, someone trade places with me." Joan pouted into the table.

"You guys are being dramatic. Love it sweet and I am glad Bex found it. It's nice to have someone like that." Darci sighed romantically.

"Speaking of, how are things with you and Aron?" Jaden asked.

"Perfect. I mean at first our relationship was all over the place, but over the past couple of months we've really connected."

"Well, maybe you should be the dumping ground for Bex's romance garbage. You two are like two peas in a pod." Joan grumbled.

"Love does suck." Jaden stabbed his chicken fried steak.

"Okay enough about romance! You guys are getting me down and I need to stay focused for my tryouts."

"Don't burn out again." Jaden teased him.

"Hey, I am determined to make at least one sports team at this school even if it's just the bowling team."

"We have a bowling team?" Joan raised an eyebrow and looked to Darci.

She shrugged.

Bex and Lyssa sat inside Lyssa's mansion. Bex was eating her food in silence as Lyssa watched her. Bex just shook her head and smiled.

"What?" Lyssa asked, her fake American accent gone.

"Nothing, just you. Will you ever not stare at me eating?" she smiled up at her.

"Oh, sorry. I just, miss it sometimes. Watching you do it, I can almost remember what things tasted like." Lyssa admits.

"Really?" Bex said.

Lyssa nodded.

"Here, how about this." Bex closed her eyes and concentrated on their bond.

As she took another bite she savored the flavors and committed them to memory allowing Lyssa to truly experience them through her. Lyssa's eyes grew big and her chest warmed as she could almost feel the food going down her own throat.

"Better?" Bex asked.

"Much, you are amazing Rebecca. Everything you do amazes me." Lyssa smiled romantically at her.

Bex blushed.

"So, does that mean you are finally ready to go on a real date with me?" She decided to push her luck.

Ever since the two had officially gotten together Bex has been trying to convince Lyssa to take her on a real date. At first, Lyssa wrote it off saying it wasn't necessary. Then Lyssa said they couldn't because it wasn't safe that they would be open to attack. Lately, her excuse has been that they are both far too busy. Bex knows it's just because Lyssa is anxious and afraid she will mess it up. She can feel her emotions and sometimes hear the vampire's thoughts after all.

Lyssa sighed and averted her eyes to the table.

"Come on, I'll pick an easy one. Promise. You're overthinking it. I just want to spend more time with you." Bex pushed.

"If I say yes, do you promise to stop bugging me about it?"

"Yes!" Bex squealed in excitement.

"Fine, then where shall we go on this first date?"

"To the movies. That way no one will look at you funny if you don't eat anything. Plus, it will give us a chance to hold hands and cuddle and just be close together in public. See, told you easy peasy. So, stop stressing out."

"I just don't want to disappoint you is all, I'm very out of practice you know."

"Relax old woman, I don't care how out of practice you are. As long as I'm with you, I'll never be disappointed." Bex assured her.

Lyssa smiled and chuckled softly.

"Spoken like a true poet. I wish I could see you today." Lyssa sighed.

"Are you always going to pout on Joan training days?"

"Yes, I will never not hate it. I can train you just fine on my own." Lyssa huffed.

"You are so cute when you are jealous. I have no doubt you can train me well but Joan can show me how to take out vampires in a quick way, show me how to protect myself against them. I just need this, I have to be ready. I don't want to be dead weight again. I want to be able to protect myself this time."

"You shouldn't have to, I should be able to protect you. I failed you." Lyssa looked away.

"Hey, stop that. You didn't fail. I'm so proud of you and all your hard work. It's just sometimes a girl has to fight for herself for once. That's all."

"You don't think I'm a failure?" Lyssa looked into her eyes and Bex could feel her vulnerability.

"No, never. I love you."

"I love you too, My sweet Rebecca." Lyssa grabbed Bex's hand and kissed it softly on the back.

Bex giggled and glanced at the time. She pouted before quickly wolfing down the rest of her food and wiping her face clean with a napkin.

"Let's go." She said with her mouth full.

Lyssa made a face.

Bex tried not to laugh and choke.

"After learning to fight I shall teach you manners and etiquette." Lyssa picked Bex up in her arms.

Bex swallowed down her food, "Geez what a slave driver." She teased.

Lyssa rolled her eyes but smiled.

Bex buried her head into Lyssa's chest and the vampire sped off to school.
