The morning light hit as Sara stretched in the bed. She had never slept so well before. She sat up and rubbed her eyes. She glanced around and remembered that all of yesterday wasn’t a dream. Just like John had predicted, around nine everyone had started to wake up and lots of screaming could be heard from the street as those things started to attack everyone in sight. All Sara could do was watch from above while the guys started to create a small barrack in the hallway with the neighbors. They wanted to make sure that if they opened the door, they wouldn’t be greeted by anything. Nothing had broken into the apartment building though. Ted and Tim had gone down stairs to warn people about what was going on and to look out the windows if they didn’t believe them.
Sara got up and walked over to the curtain near her. She opened it fully to let in more light. She looked outside to see a few of those things walking about. She heard a small scratching noises coming from out in the hall and slowly walked towards the door to the hallway. She peeked out to see both guest rooms closed. She continued to hear scratching coming from Ted and Tim’s room and walked closer to it. She put her head closer to the door and could hear hands dragging down the door. She backed up a little and bumped into the other wall. John appeared in the hallway from the front room and put his finger up against his mouth. She noticed a gun in his other hand and backed away back towards the master bedroom. John followed and began to close the bedroom door on Sara. Sara kept backing up and watched as the door finally closed with John on the other side. Sara walked closer to the door and leaned closer to it to try to hear what was going on. She jumped as two-gun shots went off. She fell back to the floor as she began to cover her head. She heard another door swing up.
“What the heck was that?” Smith yelled as he saw John stepping out of the other guest room.
“One of your friends was scratched by those things.” He said as he walked towards the kitchen.
Smith looked around the corner and noticed Ted with a bullet in his head. He noticed Tim’s feet on the other side of the bed and ran quickly to the bathroom as he felt sick.
Sara got back to her feet and walked towards the door. She slowly opened it to see John come out of the kitchen with a bucket of cleaning supplies. Sara looked at him for a moment.
“Do you need help?” Sara mumbled as she walked closer to the room.
“No, the less in this room the better.” He walked in the room and closed the door behind him as he put on a mask.
Sara walked over to the door and stood still for a few moments till Smith came out of the bathroom, “Sara, let’s make some breakfast.” Sara turned and nodded as she walked towards the kitchen.
They found some eggs in the fridge and started to cook some scrabble eggs. Sara pulled out some strawberries that were in the fridge also and began to wash them in the sink. They started to set the table for three people and brought over the food. They heard the door open as they started to plate the food. They looked over to see John walk out with the bucket of cleaning supplies again. He walked past us and put the supplies back under the sink. He then began to wash his hands in the sink.
“Smells good. Do you guess usually cook breakfast?”
“Well, I wouldn’t trust Sara to actually cook anything.” Smith tried to laugh.
Sara sat down at the table and continued to stare at eh open door to the room.
“It’s all clean now. I also tossed the bodies out the window after I wrapped them up. I had spare clothing in the closet to change out of the clothing I used to pick them up with.”
“You just tossed them out the window?” Sara asked as she stood back up, “They were Smith’s friends and you just threw them out like trash? Maybe Tim had a point about you. Maybe you do kill people without hesitation. You don’t even look phased that you just shot two more people after killing one yesterday!”
Sara ran back to the master bedroom and slammed the door.
Smith looked down at the table, “At least she took something to eat. She took the box of strawberries she cleaned.”
