John sat down at one of the plates and put his hands on his head, “She was going to open that door, if I didn’t scare her this morning.”
Smith sat down, “You have dealt with a lot of death in your life, haven’t you?”
“You can stop the act now.” John said as he took a bit of the eggs.
“Sorry, I got to into character. I know what you have seen.”
“That food last night, you infected those two, didn’t you?” John asked as he set his fork down.
“We only have the helicopter picking up the three of us. I expected them to actually die yesterday at the store.”
Smith took a bit of food, “She actually ate the same food I gave Tim and Ted.”
John glanced over at the master bedroom, “She seemed fine though.”
“Seems like my cousin is immune to the virus.”
“I thought you cared about her. That’s why you told them to pick up three. How did you know she wouldn’t turn like everyone else?”
“Back in the lab, I had gotten her to donate some of her blood to what she thought was one of those blood donation trucks. Really it was one of our trucks collecting blood samples to test the virus out with. Hers was the only sample that killed the virus. I wanted to test if she was actually immune.”
“So, that is how you got them to agree so quickly to pick her up with us?”
“Yes.” Smith took another bit of his eggs, “Where is the salt?”
Sara bit into one of the strawberries and leaned back against the wall next to a small trash can. She glanced out the window in the room at the sky and took another bite. She threw away the stem of the strawberry in the trash and grabbed another one. She glanced at the door to the room, “I keep getting upset over him just protecting us. “She stood up and walked over to his dresser. She started to open them to find only clothing inside them, “He’s just a guy wanting to survive.” She walked over to his closest and attempted to open it. She noticed that it had been locked. She glanced around at some of the tops of things. She noticed a small ledge on the door frame. She reached above it and felt a key. She grabbed it and started to unlock the closet. As it clicked, she glanced back over at the door to the room. She looked back at the closet as she slowly opened it. She became confused though as she noticed it was completely empty. “What a waste of space.” She thought to herself as she shut the closet again. She put the key by up on the frame and walked back towards the window as she ate another strawberry. She glanced out the window and noticed a few people running down in the street. She noticed a young child with them also. They seemed to be trying all the car doors and one kept running over to the doors of the apartments. Finally, it seemed one of the cars were unlocked and the group of five piled in the car. She glanced down the road to see some of those things running down the street. She tensed up as she watched them run past the car the people were hiding in. The people inside seemed to be hidden enough for those things to pass. Them by. Sara took a deep breath and ran back to the living room where the other two were. She swung open the door and started to run towards the front door.
“There are survivors outside. We need to help them.” Smith got up quickly and blocked the door from her as John also stood up.
