“Hey, how was your day.” Came Leo’s silky smooth voice on the other end of the line.
Max loved Leo’s phone voice.
His heart would skip a beat at the sexy innocence that came out of the other side.
“Good, how about yours?” Max asked Leo while logging onto his computer.
He may have called Leo after work, but just because he was home didn’t mean his work was done and he felt exhausted just thinking about the hours of piled up work he was behind. He didn't want to hurt Leo's feelings... or his own. But their regular scheduled phone call was almost too much for him to handle this week.
'But his heart didn't think it was possible to tell Leo something like that. He was pretty sure it would crush his own soul more than Leo's'
'Adulting was always so hard.'
Max nodded into the room as if Leo could see and made agreeable noises.
Leo chattered away on the other end oblivious to his stress.
He paid close attention to both his work and Leo while setting up his work on the computer. Leo chatted about his new teacher, he had just gotten at the start of this year's term, one that was an overbearing hardass.
One Max had luckily never gotten.
But now that teacher was forcing Leo's entire class to take an internship and narrow down their job prospects to a top three. To really hone their interests and help them discover what it is they want, that way they won't take the wrong job, be swamped with work, and have no rewards to show for it after a year of interning.
‘Which honestly didn’t seem like such a bad idea to him. He could have used an adult giving him a bit more guidance in those final months of class. Then maybe he wouldn't have almost lost his mind back then.’ He thought.
“Are you actually kind of busy?” Leo halted his easy chattering and inquired, his voice gentle but concerned.
Max smiled immediately at his boyfriend’s ability to pick up on when he was distracted, or busy. “Just a little bit of extra work. But I only have a little.”
There was a small pause on the other end of the line.
“Do you want to leave our phones on just beside us on the table, no pressure to talk. We can just work while sorta talking to each other when we think of something, or need a break?” Leo suggested.
Max's heart panged happily in his chest.
'Why do you have to be so far away when I want to hold you so tight right now.' He thought a soft smile brightening his stressed features.
