“By the time you get down there, they will be gone. Don’t waste your energy on strangers. They could be infected for all you know. Do you want to risk the lives of everyone in this building?” Smith said as he took a few steps towards her, “We can’t risk helping others till we understand more what is going on.”
“They have a kid with them. They can’t be that bad if they are helping a child. They are hiding in the car nearby. We can even ask them to strip to show us if they were scratched or bit. If they don’t, then we don’t have to let them in.” Sara replied as she attempted to walk pass Smith.
Smith grabbed her arm, “No.”
“Smith, your hurting my arm. Let go.” Sara cried as she tried to pull away as his eyes narrowed onto her.
He shook his head and let go, “I’m sorry. All that is going on is creating more stress on myself.” She took a few steps away from him, “I just don’t want to see any more turn into those things. I’ve been watching down below, and those things rip people apart.” She dropped to her knees, “This is a nightmare that I can’t wake up from. I just want to go back to the way it used to be. I tried to call my office last night, and the line seemed to be cut. I called my friends cell and she told me that those things are everywhere. My boss had been killed because of a stupid people that tore down the barrack to leave. Those things were waiting outside the door and had started to pile in the door. She had run towards the door and shoved those things back down the stairs along with her. They were able to barrack it back up quickly though.” Tears started to drip down her face, “My boss never gave me the time of day and treated me like dirt. She called me before all this went down and I thought it was her just breaking down. I never got a chance to thank her for all she had actually done for me.” Smith put his hand on her shoulder and sighed. He didn’t know what to say.
“At least her story is being told. It may be small, but it seems like she saved a lot of people with just one act.” John said as he walked towards the balcony, “There are some who will risk their own life, and it will be for nothing.”
Sara turned to look at John. She walked over to the balcony and opened the door. A small breeze hit her face as she stepped out. She looked down below to see the group of people getting waved over to a building across the street.
“See, many rights now want to keep being nice. Those people will die in the end. Sounds like Smith is being mean, but he really just wants what is best for you.” John said as he stepped outside, “You are lucky to have a cousin like him.”
Smith sat back down at the table and checked his phone. He noticed he had missed a few texts that had been sent while they had breakfast.
“We are fifteen minutes out. Get to the roof.”
“We are ten minutes out.”
“Please confirm how many people are with you.”
Smith looked out on the balcony at Sara and John, “3 people. We are on our way up.” He replied as he put his phone away and started to walk towards them.
“Hey, let’s get a better view up on the roof. Get some real fresh air.” Smith said as John. Turned around. He nodded and took Sara’s hand.
