DESTINY BECKONS

EIGHT

EIGHT

Sep 28, 2019

Iola didn’t like where she was.

She didn’t like the bawdy sounds and odious smells, and certainly not the discomforting sights which surrounded her in that overcrowded tavern. S

he didn’t like the leering men and boisterous women there at all, especially what they were all doing.

And she positively didn’t like the man that Dacia was having such a friendly conversation with.

But her likes and dislikes didn’t really matter. She was there for a reason, a reason more important than herself and her preferences.

“One more for old times’ sake, my friend.” Kadar raised the large stained mug he was drinking from.

Iola felt a shiver run down her back every time the bear of a man named Kadar spoke. Dacia had introduced him as an old acquaintance, and a very reliable one.

But his unkempt appearance filled her with distaste. She calmed herself remembering what her grandfather always told her.

To never judge people by what they looked like, but by their deeds.

This Kadar was supposedly a guard at one of the city’s strongholds. He certainly didn’t come across as one, not by the way he looked.

His shoulder length dark hair was a knotted mess and he probably never owned a sharp shaving razor.

He spoke rather crudely and drank a lot of the sour smelling liquid that the tavern served up for Ale.

She doubted if he was reliable at all, but Dacia seemed very familiar with the man.

And what did Iola know of militia and guardsmen of Sidusca or any large city for that matter.

This was her first time in one.
