I layed in bed the next morning with a few hours left before school starts. If I slept I would be given 20 more death assignments. It was still dark out, not that pretty because of the lights and I didn’t feel like seeing ghosts and other Reapers. Well most Reapers. I did kind of want to see the Wolf Reaper again but no ones dying over here so there’s no point. At least I think. I got up and walked to the closet where I stored the crow. I took him out and went to my desk. The crow hopped off my arm and landed on a small perch at the edge of my desk. I wrote a small letter and tied it to the ankle of the bird. He hopped onto my arm as I walked to the window and opened it. The crow hopped off my arm and onto the window cill. It turned to me cocked its head and fell backwards off the ledge, turned mid air and flew up right flying away.
“Your time is almost up…” I jumped and turned no one was there.
“Okay Aurora come out.” A girl stepped into the light. “How, no who let you into my room?” She laughed and pointed to the window.
“Your house is like a prison at night!” I shook my head and looked at her dead serious.
“Why didn’t you wake me?”
“You looked tired and since your back... I thought might as well not. Also when did you get a pet crow?” Crap!
“He was sick so I took him in for a bit.” I held my breath waiting for her answer.
“So who’s the guy then?” And this is where she ends me…!
“There’s no guy I wrote that so if the bird got sick again someone would know what to do!”
“Like I would believe that! What was in the letter?” She started to beg though I admired her persistence.
“Have you slept at all?” I finally asked, she stopped for a second so I took that chance. “You can sleep on my bed.”
“What about you?”
“I’ll be fine! I sleep like a log anyways.” She went to my bed and layed down. She was out a few minutes later. I sat at my desk rolling a pencil across the table. That was way to close besides I don’t like anyone. Everyone is a jerk and that schools biggest sin is pride! Not one student cares about anyone else just their own image. I sighed. Today’s Thursday just live through it and Friday then I won’t have to deal with anyone’s problems! Well till Monday… I laid my head on the desk and stared at Aurora. She can’t take anymore of the bullies. And that’s all because of me… Tears began to creep into my eyes and I whispered to myself. “She’s hurt because of you, this is all my fault.” I wiped my tears away and made a promise to myself. I’ll do everything in my power to make you happy. Even if it kills me. The sun began to rise and I could just here Lily’s alarm go off. I shook Aurora awake and shoved her into the closet just as Lily came in.
“Oh your up!” I nodded
“Just finding my coat I’ll be down in a minute!” As Lily closed the door Aurora fell from the closet landing on her side.
“Why is your closet so stuffy!” I laughed.
“So people like you wouldn’t leap out of them! You need to go…” Aurora went to the window and sat at the ledge.
“Welp see ya in a bit!” She turned and jumped out grabbing a branch as she fell, hung on for a second then dropped down the last foot. I went to my closet and changed to are stupid uniform. It was a black and white long coat for the boys and a skirt for the girls. What’s funny is that you always get two pairs from each side though the school encourages you to wear your genders clothes. Honestly I’m not girly so I usually where the long coat and it also makes me look more aggressive and that’s how I keep most people away from me. I put on the long coat and ran down stairs. Lily was in the kitchen and I could smell toast and bacon, well burnt toast.
“Lily the toast.” She turns and sees the smoke coming from the toaster.
“The toast!” She screamed I sat down and laughed tears coming to my eyes. She pulled out the burning toast and set it on a plate. I took a few breaths to calm myself but every time I see Lily’s face I began to laugh again.
“It’s not funny! I burnt the toast.” I started to laugh more and she laughed with me. She pulled out another plate and set some of the bacon from the pan and laid it in front of me. I ate and Lily sat across from me.
“So about yesterday…” I stopped eating as she continued “I know you don’t like your parents and only tolerate them but please, at least be better than them…”
“Okay, and I’m sorry for speaking out like that.” Lily nodded and got up.
“The school bus is almost here so hurry up!” I quickly finished my breakfast and ran up stairs. I raced into my room and grabbed my backpack while swinging on the frame of the door. I hooked it around my shoulder and went two by two down the stairs. I raced into the kitchen and grabbed the lunch box Lily was holding out and raced to the door.
“Shoes!” Lily called I ran back to the kitchen and scrambled to put my shoes on. The bus stopped outside my door.
“Love you Lily!”
“See you after school!” I ran outside to the bus and hopped on. I slowed down and walked to the back where Aurora was waiting.
“Hair tie?” My hair was everywhere and I never realized it.
“Shoot!” Aurora laughed and held out one
“Thanks…” She twirled her finger and I turned around so my back faced her. She pulled out a comb and brushed my hair straight then wrapped my hair into a ponytail. I faced her and we talked until we got to school. We got off the bus and as I looked up I saw Becka. A growl came into my throat and Aurora walked past her.
“Wait Aurora I want to ask you something!”
