Before the young adults lay a horrific scene.
It had been the VELH that exploded. It had run into an incredibly thick tree among the saplings and split partially down the middle. It no longer hovered, but instead the back lay on the ground and the split part rested against the tree, with the trunk sticking up through the middle.
Several branches had fallen from the trees above and come stabbing down into the vehicle and the people inside. Their bodies had been thrown from the VELH, one lay several feet away and the other was slumped over the side of the railing. The one on the ground lay with a pool of blood around his head and the one still on the vehicle had been impaled by the branches that had fallen from above. Red streams trickled down from where his body lay.
Summer fell to her knees as tears slid down her cheeks.
Kyle took a step towards her and put his hand on her shoulder to comfort her.
"How does a VELH crash like this," Kyle wondered aloud while surveying the gruesome sight. "They're made specifically so they don't ever crash or malfunction due to anything technical."
Summer swallowed, "Maybe it wasn't technical, you saw how they were turning."
Then a beep sounded from Kyle's backpack.
Summer glanced at him, "Was that your phone?"
Kyle slid his phone out of his back pocket and waved it at her to show that it must've been something else. He swung his backpack off his shoulder and unzipped it.
He reached in the pulled out the scanner they had found. The screen glitched slightly still, but now a clear red dot beeped against the twitching static lines. Kyle's eyes widened and he drew in a breath.
"They scanned us..." he mumbled under his breath.
"Huh?" Summer asked, straining to hear him.
Kyle looked up at her with eyes like daggers.
"Those officers were following something. They scanned us thinking we made a signal." He passed the device to Summer.
"It wasn't us though," he stated and Summers eyes grew to look like golf balls as she stared at the screen of the scanner. "They were chasing an unknown life form..."
The words unstable unknown energy flashed on the screen and the red dot continued to beep...
