Walking down the white, pristine hallway with the Defense Committee employees was hundreds of times better than being crushed by that fucking whale. But a feeling of uncomfortably and uneasiness still filled me, as though there was still more bad news coming my way. Samson walked through the door of the room where the girl was held and a disturbed look came upon his face when he turned in. Oh shit.
“Mr. Gjalund, who is this?” Samson uttered in confusion.
I walked to the doorway and peered inside expecting something horrible only to see my driver laying, unconscious on the snowy floor in the most hilarious position ever. He was on his back with his feet down and knees up, one of his hands over his face, the other stretched out to his side.
Looking at his name tag, I said, “My God, that’s Chaoshi, my personal driver, I told him the bathroom was down this hall. He must have seen the open door with snow and went to investigate and then slipped and fell on the ice.”
That was the fastest I’ve ever come up with a bullshit answer that actually makes sense. I made a slight grin that quickly turned into one of those awkward, confused frowns.
“Umm, okay…” Samson replied.
“Yeah,” I said, pressing on the intercom button on the wall.
“Front desk,” a woman answered.
“Please send someone here to bring my driver to the hospital,” I answered back.
Stepping over Chaoshi, I approached the large tank in the center of the room and wiped away some of the frost covering the surface of it, my hand became red from the cold. I looked into the tank of foggy ice and could make out a girl. A young pretty girl with short hair, white as snow, and skin, pale and pure. Upon closer inspection, a dark object shaped like an arm was in place of her left arm, probably a bionic arm. I was mesmerized by her innocent beauty. Ice crystals started growing from where I had wiped them away. I wiped them away again and again in pursuit of seeing her. By then everyone in the room had gotten their look at her and began to look at me. Some men in medical uniforms carried Chaoshi out on a stretcher, but I didn’t even look back.
“What are you doing?” Samson questioned worryingly.
“Observing…” I replied, “I want a science team in here as soon as possible to remove this girl from the ice.”
“What? You realize that that isn’t what we do, we don’t even have a science team,” Samson answered back.
All I had to do was give him a stern look for him to realize I didn’t care if they had a science team or not. Samson left the room, probably to go get a science team to melt the ice and study the girl. I had so many questions and so little answers. Who is this girl? Why has she been here so long? How old is she? How did she get here? I needed answers to quench this odd kind of thirst. A thirst I’ve never felt before. It was like she was pulling me to her in such a way that for once in my life I cared for someone else. It was such an odd sensation that I couldn’t leave her side for quite some time. And in fact even after I left, she wouldn’t leave my mind.
I became obsessed. I paced in the living room of my house in one of the highest towers. Peering out into the raging sea of a constant hurricane at the buildings full of glowing lights bellow the surface, wondering if she had been melted by the science team yet. I picked up my phone for the eighth time in an hour and called Samson to ask if she had been melted. And like the past four times, he didn’t pick up. I felt the anxiety building up within me, I felt like I was gonna scream. Why am I so obsessed with this girl? I’ve never even met her in person, I’ve only ever seen her through layers of thick ice. I don’t even know her name.
Staring out into the everlasting storm, a ringing finally came from my cell. I ran over and passed a mirror realizing how deranged I looked with my eyes red from lack of sleep and my clean shiny face had grown a beard of ugly stubble. I picked up and
“The ice has melted,” Samson said, “and she’s stable. But her heart rate is very slow and her core body temperature is 12°C, it’s like her body was put into hypersleep. We still don’t know much about her and we’re sti-”
Suddenly there was a large gasp that I heard over the phone, but not from Samson. Then it was followed by intense screaming and blaring.
“Samson? Hello?” I asked into the phone.
I could hear panting into the phone. Then someone started screaming in Japanese, which was a language very few people knew. 98% of the Japanese population was wiped out in WWIII. I didn’t understand what she was saying. I didn’t understand what she was saying, but I heard someone panting into the mic of the phone. A loud, heavy, panicked pant. The Japanese screaming hadn't stopped and my worry was only growing. What happened to the girl trapped in ice? Why did Samson suddenly stop talking? Alarms continued to play and the Japanese stopped. I could hear something moving closer to the phone Samson was using, slow steps and mutters in Japanese.
In a heavy accent, the voice said, "Hello?! Is a person here? Need help please!"
Then it suddenly hit me, this voice was probably the voice of the girl, no, it was, it had to be. The phone went silent out of the blue, then a loud dial tone played. I hung up and cringed at the sound, then called headquarters.
“Hello, this is Mark Gjalund calling, we have a situation in the defense tower,” I said, acting stern
“Hello, Mr. Gjalund, what kind of situation is occurring?” the man asked
“The ice has broken,” I replied
That was our code for, the girl has woken up and caused a disturbance. He hung up. I went to the bathroom to look at myself in the mirror again. Holy shit, when I tell you that I look like a homeless person, I look like the lowest of the low. My eyes looked like they were literally going to fall out because of how deranged they had become. My hair was an absolute mess, the hair was parted all wrong, exposing a huge bald spot no one knew existed. My beard had grown to a scary stubble, where it was normally clean and hairless. I didn’t look like myself after only three days of being obsessed.
After cleaning myself up I contacted my personal driver, Chaoshi, and asked him if he was well enough to drive me to the Capitol Tower. He agreed to take me. I was relieved to find out he was okay after the fall in that room. And unlike the last time he drove me somewhere, the ride was completely peaceful, although I still felt a constant uneasiness. When I arrived I was greeted by all the branch presidents, except Samson, which was something that has never happened before. This meeting must be really important that every important person was gathered here.
The meeting began. Everyone sat down and my secretary informed us what had happened in the defense tower. Like I had thought, the girl in the ice had been melted out and caused a disturbance.
Samson was critically injured, and a large portion of his body was covered in frost burn, meaning that he would probably be crippled for the rest of his life. Five other people were critically injured as well, and one was dead.
The girl was restrained and placed into a special insane asylum, just for her. She mostly spoke Japanese, but also spoke Chinese and bits of broken English. But, the population of native Asians in the colony that actually spoke Asian languages was very low. I knew that Chaoshi was from China, Earth, but he had already been through a lot and I didn’t really want to trouble him much more.
With all these things, I thought there wouldn’t be much more, but I finally found the uneasiness in my body. Giant, undiscovered worms were looming in the area, probably controlled by those bastard aliens. Some of these worms probably the size of some buildings here in the colony. My fears had been proved and I began to sweat in my seat. I felt like I was going to fail as a leader.
That zoological prick looked so happy though, literally bouncing up and down in his chair like a toddler. I couldn’t take it anymore, I wanted to fight back, and finally claim this planet from them, even if we had just created our peace agreement.
I suddenly blurted out, “Let's destroy these mother fuckers.”
Hey guys, sorry for this, but from now on I'll be updating every Monday. (It must be annoying for me to keep changing the dates and being late, so I'll say sorry again)
