Chapter Two.
It's been a week since I started living near them, Alinor seems rather taken with Lycien, but there is as Drae- Dam'atia put it, something off about her. Daebru heading up the circular stairs to the second floor balcony looking to his left to see the tiefling in a pile of books in the corner, books that were brought up to her from archives, she has her own mission for sure and seems unphased by death, he shakes his head leaving her to her devices as he heads down the hall the others were staying in, "Knock knock, anyone home... and we have a mattress fort this time? What is going on here?"
"GET HER!!" Gorthan popped up from behind the mattresses and tripped over them to pound at Daebru.
Eyes widening as he steps back out of the way, "Oh no... help me.. whatever will I do in the presence of the big scary lizard?" his tone came out flatter than intended, I'm tired of these games, I need to know who this friend of his is, they're a danger to the order ... will he tell me today?
"Hey! I'm not a lizard I'm a dragon!" he gets to his feet, hands going to his hips as he stares down from his six foot seven frame at Daebru. Easily breaking into a smile moments later, "So What's the plan Haaru? Any plans or maybe another bar fight in store? eh?"
Daebru puts up his hands, "Oh no, you are not wrangling me into another fight, unless it's maybe to prove myself to your friend we talked about?"
"What? Oh ... yeah ... I reached out to her" a woman, that's one fact I didn't know before, not that it matters much murder is murder and spreading lies of the order is not okay "... meet later today. Outside town, they insist, less guards, less chance of ambushes"
"Understandable, I would be wary as well if I were her, and going off your view of her she seems a friendly enough person. I just ... want to know, ya know."
Gorthan nods, "yeah so ... brawl before then?"
Daebru gives a hearty chuckle, "perhaps you should find Alinor for that. He does enjoy a good brawl as much as you do."
"... he's with Lycian, she's still upset we couldn't get her property back ... he's trying to smooth things over with her," he shakes his head clearly thinking it's a dead end to chase that tail.
"It doesn't make sense," he sighs rubbing the back of his head, "but I'm going to trust that Alinor knows what he's doing. I'll meet you at the gate later and we can go meet your friend yeah?"
The dragonborn nods and lightly thunks Daebru's shoulder, "I hope you'll get along, you're both good people, friends" he beams down as his arms fold over his chest with a satisfactory nod. I'm not good people Gorthan, I'm pretending to be your friend to get to someone and potentially kill them ... right in front of you. I have a lot to consider about my actions this afternoon...
Daebru was now faced with not just Gorthan, but the entire crew as he approached the south gate out of town, "great..." he muttered to himself and put on a cheery smile as he approached, "It's good to see you all! I didn't realize that everyone would be coming!"
"We're curious too Haaru, she's a friend of Gorthan's and may be in trouble if she keeps up with what she's doing, so we want her to know she can count on us to help her out," Dam'atia spoke up her tail twitching out behind her nervously, glad I don't have a tail to betray my ... emotions, "Just like you can, if you ever need us. We'll be sure to help out however we can," the woman gave a smile that was almost motherly in nature but didn't quite reach her eyes, what are you hiding?
"I know that silly!" Daebru beames at her, "You guys are so great, and I'm glad I might get the chance to help out another friend!" he bounces past them a bit out onto the open road, "shall we then?"
Gorthan smiles broadly, nothing hidden behind his expression, the man never hides how he was feeling and is eager to believe in others and help them out, "yeah! To Fiora!" he took the lead and led them out of town, leaving the road after about an hour of walking along it.
They followed a dirt path to the edge of the woods where a young tiefling with blonde hair pulled up in a ponytail lay back against the tree, her horns the same color red as her skin stretched out to the sky, long and slender with a slight curve. An array of daggers adorned her belt, but the most eye catching was the black steel sword that leaned nearby, it seemed segmented as if it came apart somehow and there was a pull in Daebru's mind to pick it up, a soft calling to him, 'destroy ... ravage...' he shakes his head and looks back to the sleeping tiefling woman, she was well built for combat and infiltration type of missions, lithe but strong and not overly bulky anywhere. Her legs were crossed and her hand darted to a dagger as they got close, "Gorthan... why'd you bring a whole heard of people? I told you just the one that needed to know!" she opens her eyes looking over the group with a sigh, "I suppose it can't be helped. Which on o ya needed to see me bout what I do?"
There was a pregnant pause as they all waited for Daebru to step forward, "I was, though I would prefer what I need to talk to you about be done in private," he smiles sweetly hoping that she would agree to talk to him out of earshot at least for a short while, "may I approach?" he tilts his head to the side.
The woman eyes him thoughtfully, "So guys, this is Fi! Fi this is the guys, Haaru, Al, Dam'atia, Gwen, Pags, and uh Jude," Gorthan piped up pointing out everyone Jude is new, and flirty, she's a handful but her information is sound as far as I can tell. Leads on the three weapons Lycian wants come through her, anything else the thieves guild needs to tell us comes through Pags, when the pink fluff of a woman is around.
Fi nods her head, "it's Fiora to those I don't know so well," she commented as she gets to her feet, still leaning against the tree, her pose however, was anything but relaxed as her eyes darted between everyone present.
Daebru moves over and stands off to the side a bit from her, hands clasped behind his back as he looks up at the woman, "why? why that symbol?"
"I'm hoping to get their attention, there's too much wrong with the world and they do something about it" she looks down at Daebru, measuring him up.
"Not like this they don't, and they don't put their mark everywhere, it's not to get attention. They like their shadows," he holds her gaze, his expression dropping from the overly friendly mask he held moments before, "you would be careful with whose toes you step on, lest you wish to wind up dead for meddling in something you shouldn't" the corner of his mouth twitches at the idea of killing, just one more to the pile, what would it matter, if she died here and now? ... but I need answers ... answers first .. then torture ... death .. death should be quick for fools...
Her eyes widen, but not in fear, in awe, awe? "You're one of them!?" her voices raises slightly and she glances over at the others to see if they heard her, "one of the order actually came? Do you like my work?"
"No... your work is not really an issue, but putting that symbol up everywhere is. Who told you about it? Where did you learn of them?" his tone is cold as is the air about him as he moves into the shadow of the tree partially obscuring himself in darkness.
"He just told me stories that inspired. I ... do you not do good for the world? Why have I never seen your mark elsewh-"
"Because it's secret!" he hissed at her cutting off her words, "to do what you're doing means death" he leans back a bit crossing his arms over his chest, "but ... I see potential in you, a wish to serve a greater cause, to shape the world for a brighter future ... tell me, or bring me to the one that told you, and I'll send in word that you would do well with the order. You'd do well to serve them well, lest you want me down on your head later" he looks down his nose at her, "have I made myself clear?"
"Absolutely!"
"And no more marking kills or even making kills without a writ, officials that are with us will help you, but only if you have a writ"
"Understood" she nods and then walks away a bit "EEEEEEEEEEEE!!!!!" fucks sake... she's an idiot ... then again ... so is Gorthan
Daebru shakes his head pinching the bridge of his nose and letting out a sigh 'destroy with us...' the hiss comes to his mind again as he catches sight of the black sword out of the corner of his eye, I destroy enough on my own...
