“Let’s see if we can signal for help on the roof.” John added.
Sara nodded and they all walked out of the apartment back towards the staircase. They walked up two floors till they got to a door at the top. John opened the door and they all walked out onto the roof. Sara took a deep breath as a large wind hit her face. She could smell a small hint of smoke in the air and walked closer to the side. She glanced around to see birds still flying in the sky like nothing below was actually going on.
“A helicopter!” Smith yelled as Sara turned her head to see one approaching them.
“Sara come away from the side back towards us. We are going to wave it down.”
“Do you think that they will help us?” Sara asked as she began to wave with both hands in the air. The helicopter started to hover above them and dropped a ladder.
“Sara, you go up first.” Smith said as he pushed her towards the ladder. She grabbed on and carefully started to climb up it.
“What are they going to do with her back at the lab?” John asked as he watched Smith grab onto the ladder.
“I don’t know. We have already locked down the city so that the infection won’t spread more. Hopefully we can come up with a cure. If we do, we will have the ultimate weapon.” Smith laughed as he started to climb up. John watched as Sara got to the top and helped inside. He grabbed the ladder and started to climb up also. When he got to the top, he noticed Sara was knocked out and strapped into a seat. A man toward over Smith as kicked him in the stomach.
Another man helped John get fully into the helicopter. John smiled as he sat down in a chair and strapped in. He was given a headset and he put it on.
“That’s enough. We don’t need him. There should be another helicopter coming soon for him. We have what boss wanted.” They tied a rope around Smith, who was struggling to breath. The man put a note in his pants pocket before he quickly lowered him back down to the roof.
“Let’s go. We don’t want company showing up while we are still here.” The helicopter took off leaving Smith gasping for air on the roof.
Smith slowly rolled around for a few moments and sat up carefully as he grumbled. He untied the rope around his waist, “What the heck was that about.” He checked his phone again as it buzzed.
