The wind blew hard at the boundary of the broken city and the restored utopia. Right in the middle stood two figures, and all around them, hidden in the buildings, were the other Breakers, who were drawn in by the power possessed by the two who stood right before each other.
"Jerome" said Destroyer
"Nicholas" said Jerome back
Silence filled the air once more as their seals glowed at the same hue. Both these men had the power to both destroy and recreate the world, but with the other alive, none of them could do as they wished.
"What made you want a world of power?" Jerome asked.
"Weakness. I wanted to eliminate weakness. It is weakness that caused Crystal's disease. If she was more powerful, then perhaps, her body would've been able to destroy the disease on its own." Nicholas answered.
"Then why make a machine for it? Why not create a simple antidote inside a syringe?" Jerome asked.
"I wanted the world to be just like you." Nicholas answered.
"Just like me?" Jerome asked
"You've always been strong, always moving forward, always trying to get your way done. You stop at nothing once your mind is set, and even at the worst of odds, you emerge as the victor. Such strength could have no weakness; such strength could have no foe." Nicholas answered.
"So you made a device to kill the weak?" Jerome asked
"No, I made a device to bring them back as the strong." Nicholas answered.
"What do you mean?" Jerome asked
"My machine was never there to transform cells or recreate bodies, it went beyond that. The power it has, and the power it needed, those two should've been enough proof to show that this machine is not here to touch the physical aspect of the human body, but rather, it was to recreate the body as measured by the spirit." Nicholas answered.
He walked towards Jerome.
"The powers that you have, and the powers that everyone have, are all influenced by their spirit. What you truly wanted is the power that you have now. I never wanted to destroy, I wanted to recreate. But you were too hasty, you wanted recreation at an instant, and that greed..."
A blade formed at Nicholas' hand and flew towards Jerome, who stopped it with a wind wall.
"Is your weakness." He continued.
A sudden explosion of wind propelled Nicholas back a few meters and blinded him temporarily.
A huge explosive noise erupted from where Jerome stood, causing Nicholas to dash to the side as a reaction.
He wiped his eyes to see Jerome who barely missed with a spear in hand.
"Your world-- will never work." Jerome said.
"Chantless magic. So you've grown that powerful. Don't worry though, you're not the only one." Nicholas said.
Jerome walked towards Nicholas, and with every step, plants grew and the sky opened. Nicholas did the same, but the ground broke and the sky darkened whenever he took a step.
Shockwaves erupted from where they stood, growing bigger and increasing in intensity as the two got closer, until a huge shockwave erupted from Jerome, who leapt up into the air and unto the standing Nicholas, who simply caught his spear, causing it to vanish..
Nicholas pulled back and threw a punch. Jerome leaned to the side to dodge it. Returning the favor, Jerome threw a kick, followed by a slash from another sword. Unable to hit both, he let another gust of air out to push them both away.
Jerome lifted his arms up and spikes emerged from the ground, causing Nicholas to jump around touching the spikes to destroy them. He then created a scythe and slashed at Nicholas, who simply dodged it.
Jerome continued to push forward, slashing and slashing from every angle, attempting to hit the agile Nicholas who dodged every hit simply by predicting where every strike would land. Frustrated, Jerome swung hard and trapped his own scythe on the ground. Nicholas stepped on the handle and kicked Jerome hard on the face, causing him to fly a few feet up in the air before landing down.
Jerome looked to his left and saw a rotting plant. His blood ran cold and sweat dripped down from his body. He was on his part of the city, the place was restored, a utopia where none is ever insufficient, so he questioned himself. If all was made available, then the plant would be thriving, it should be.
But all around the plant were bigger plants, plants which greedily absorbed the nutrients given to the unfortunate rotten plant.
Was he wrong? Was a world where all was created for all a philosophy that was meant to fail.
No, it must be a mistake. Perhaps the abnormality called the Destroyer caused this mistake to occur. Or so he thought to himself.
He stood back up and dashed forward once more. He summoned a brick wall behind Nicholas and another brick wall in front of him. With a huge burst of air, the two walls collided, but Nicholas was able to leap up to escape.
However, this was all part of Jerome's plan. He created chains and whipped Nicholas back down to the ground.
In the land of complete creation, there exists a hierarchy of creatures, wherein the one at the top rules over those below, and even though all is sufficient for all, human greed will continue to dwell within the hearts of man, and no resources will ever be enough.
In the land of complete destruction, there exists a hierarchy of powers, wherein the one at the top dominates over all those below, and even though all is powerful, human greed will continue to dwell within the hearts of man, and no power will ever be enough.
And so order must be created, and hierarchies must be destroyed. These two realized this at the same moment.
In the world of creation, the powerful must be put down for all to be equal. In the land of destruction, the resources should be equal, so there will not be a fight for power. No side is more powerful, and both are equally important.
Nicholas and Jerome lock eyes, they realized that their quarrel was useless, and it was human greed that began their strife. Through the greed of Nicholas, he created a machine to make the world, including himself, powerful. Through the greed of Jerome, he destroyed the machine, greedily enforcing that his philosophy was correct. Through the greed of both, the world was destroyed. And this greed brought the start the this battle. In greed it began, and through greed it shall end.
"The greed..." they said in unison.
"to take us to the boundless world of our creation." they continued.
"Nothing is constant. There will come a time of sadness, and happiness." said Jerome
"Nothing is constant. There will be a time of prosperity and famine." said Nicholas
"But as long as there is balance--" said Jerome
"Then balance will solve the inequalities." continued Nicholas
"Alterios Ceteris Paribus: Everything Is No Longer Constant" they both said.
The world started to crack and dislocate itself. Energy surged from the Earth, and all breakers who were there to see the final moment had their systems light up by themselves.
In unison, they stood and looked at both sides of the Earth they destroyed, and together they chanted.
"Genesis: Exodus to the New World"
Their seals glowed white, and with a huge burst of energy, exploded into a massive wave that enveloped the entire world.
The ground shook and the buildings slowly fell, one after the other. The sky ripped open, and the darkness of space leaked unto the barren Earth. The ground below them cracked open and magma gushed forth from the cracks. The world they created was coming to an end, and so were they.
"Creation and Destruction were never meant to be apart." Jerome said.
"They were always meant to be one. And with their unison, comes a new world." Nicholas said
"Crystal was the Catalyst. If it wasn't for her, I never would've come to realize that it was I who held the power of Creation. This world would've never come to its grandest state if it wasn't for her." Jerome said
"And if it wasn't for you, the world would've ended right when my machine started. You were right, and wrong. Too much power will bring greed. Too much resources will also breed greed. Together, we must both create and destroy, to truly create a boundless world." Nicholas said
"Freedom was never about being free, it was about being free with a cost, and that cost was balance. To be truly free, we must be truly balanced." Jerome said.
"I couldn't agree more." Nicholas said.
Jerome laughed at the idea, but it made sense. The two shined brighter than any star in the solar system, and held power greater than any core. Staying in their planet would cause an imbalance of power. Together, they flew off into the distant emptiness, and together formed what was now known as the Alpha Centauri. Forever providing balance, staring deeply into the new world they created. Together, they guide the Earth into a planet that would become truly boundless, one event at a time.
