We kept running, the exit right in front of us when suddenly, someone jumped out in front of us.
“You kids shouldn’t be in here!”
They said, shrieking like a banshee.
“Yeah no shit sherlock.”
Jacob said, grasping for something on the table right behind him.
Without any obvious second-guessing, Jacob threw a vial full of some pink liquid in the air, making the person in front of us scream “NOOO!”
The vial flung through the air and hit the box next to the stranger.
The power box.
Full of adrenaline, the three of us ran out of there faster than the speed of light, just barely getting into the dusty room and up the stairs before the whole place blew up.
Jacob shut the secret door behind us, still breathing heavily, and began laughing.
“Holy shit!”
He said, holding onto his shaking sides.
“That was awesome!”
Bethany and I weren’t impressed.
“You dumbass! Now we’ll definitely get in trouble!”
I said, internally panicking.
“As long as we never speak of this again I’m sure we’ll be fine.”
Bethany reassured.
“Yeah..Yeah, I guess so.”
“Okay….let’s make a pact.”
I say holding up my right hand.
“I solemnly swear that I will never speak of whatever the fuck was down there for the rest of my life.”
Bethany and Jacob follow along, albeit a bit choppier.
“I guess it’s a deal then.”
“Yeah...can I go now?”
Jacob asked, pointing towards the door.
“I don’t see why not. Just, keep your mouth shut about this whole ordeal.”
“Yeah, of course, you coming with Beth?”
Nodding, Bethany stepped away from the false wall and began walking with Jacob, looking back a couple of times.
With a huge sigh of relief, I walked down the opposite hall, hoping life had now gone back to normal.
