They stepped off the bus and into the large crowd that was amassing around a small stage. A man stepped up with a megaphone.
"Welcome, everyone, to the tournament. You will all be split into smaller groups with a guide who will show you around and explain everything. Please stand very still." The man said.
Everyone froze in place and then lines started to appear in the ground, showing who was in what groups, the man responsible standing by the stage, holding his hand to the ground.
"These are your groups. Please stay where you are while a guide comes to get you." The man added.
Cal, Sarah, and Josh were in the same group. A tall girl in a red shirt came up to them. She was wearing a name tag that said "Rebecca".
"Hi everyone, welcome to the tournament. I will show you around. Why don't you follow me and we will start with the dorms?" Rebecca said and then led them over to the dorm building.
Rebecca explained that there was a boy and girls dorm and that we obviously weren't allowed in any dorms other than our own. If we wanted to meet with people, there were plenty of other places around the grounds.
After that she showed them the small rooms. They were really just a bed, a desk, and a dresser.
Next, they went around the grounds. There were lots of places to get food and anything else you wanted to buy. Although Cal noticed that they were all owned by the company who built the grounds, so they could set the price as high as they want and anyone on the grounds would have no choice but to pay it.
After that, Rebecca showed them the arena. Walking in it almost looked like it grew since the last time Cal had looked at it. They got a tour of the facilities, more shops and food, training and practice rooms, private rooms where you could take a nap in an emergency between events, premium rooms where you could watch the match from comfortable recliners with people to wait on you, and other ways to take your money.
Finally, they concluded with questions and then she explained that the destruction tournament would take place tomorrow and that each person would get their events sent to them on their phone and they could also all see the scoreboard and the listing of events if they wanted to watch a match. Cal saw that his was one of the last ones on Saturday, but saw that the destruction tournament was scheduled for the whole week, so he supposed he got lucky. Josh and Sarah had theirs back to back on Tuesday.
Finally they got to have a large celebratory dinner. Cal, Sarah, and Josh all sat together and had a great time.
"Do you feel like you are ready?" Josh asked him later on in the night.
"Ready enough I suppose." He answered.
As they were leaving, Vera ran up to them and asked if she could talk to Cal. He nodded and told them to catch up with him. Josh smiled, but Sarah had a strange expression, and then they left.
"When is your match?" She asked him.
He realized that at some point she was going to know that he lied about his powers. A lot of people were. He swallowed.
"Sunday, one of the last matches. I don't think it will be that interesting, just water. How about you?" He asked.
"I am earlier in the day on Sunday, I got lucky." She smiled. "Are you going to watch?"
He smiled. "Wouldn't miss it."
He didn't really know why, but he was really happy going back to his dorm room. He laid his head down on his pillow, his grin still not leaving his face as he drifted off to sleep.
