“I have only read about dragons. I never imagined they were real?” I asked as I took a step away from him. I was starting to get a bad feeling suddenly.
“They are as real your bird.” He put his hand on my shoulder and Freda began to squawk again and swooped down to scratch his arm. He grabbed his arm and I noticed no blood. “I’m not going to hurt him. He is the only person making It, so I am here.” He put his hands behind his head, “We need to make your ability stronger though. Once I am out of your site, it seems that I start to vanish again. I think you are strong enough to make it so I can just walk about where ever I am, as long as I am near you.”
“I completely disagree.” I turned around to see Freda. She walked over towards us and stood between Edward and I. “Give me the eye patch.” She put her hand. Edward laughed and started at her for a moment.
“You appeared out of nowhere. Does that mean you are just like me?” A grind went across his face, “Don’t you want to be able to live again?”
“He is just a child. He is not ready to fully use this ability.”
Edward seemed to frown, “What if I refuse?”
She turned around and turned toward me, “I know it has been a while since you and I have actually spoken face to face, but I need you to trust me. I have been listening to you over the past years about all the struggles you have been through. I understand that right now, doesn’t seem that bad, but it is. You need to trust me and close your eye and cover it. This ability will only end with heart ache.”
“She’s only trying to hold you back. Aren’t you tired of hiding who you really are behind an eye patch?” Edward spoke around her.
“You have already been hurt due to this ability already. Do you want to risk that something worse could happen?”
I took a step back and glanced down at the floor. I had an endless amount of thoughts flowing through my head. I stopped and looked up at her, “I can’t keep hiding. I’ve seen how that ends for someone.” I remembered in my previous life always being home. Waiting for Brian to come home. I had dropped out of school to follow him. I stayed home making sure his clothing was folded and clean. He had warm food to come home too and a positive vibe to come home too. Looking back, I couldn’t even call it a life. I never left home and had never gotten a job. I was always busy running erins for him. I felt my fist tighten as I lifted my head, “I am done hiding behind something.”
I noticed she frown, “Then this will be the last time I see you then. I refuse to see how this will turn out.” I felt my heart stop suddenly.
“You can’t just leave. You are the only one I have had to talk to.” I watched as she began to walk towards the corner in the room that was covered in shadows. She glanced back and smiled before I noticed her completely vanished.
“You can talk to me now. I can’t really go anywhere without you. I can’t stand being invisible to everything.” He put his hand on my shoulder and smiled, “This should be an adventure for both of us.”
