Sunlight sparkled up above, like it was dancing through leaves on a tree. Birds sang in the distance and the air was fresh and cool. And the floor...
Well the floor was cold too. Chillingly cold, and hard too.
Kyle opened his eyes. What was he laying on that was so uncomfortable? He blinked a few times, letting his eyes adjust to everything around him. He could see rocks and hear flowing water. Maybe when he had jumped after the deer he landed on his head on some rocks near the waterfall. No that wasn't right, he clearly remembered hitting the cool flowing water.
Kyle sat up, slightly dizzy. He was slightly damp but not soaked like he would expect to be after jumping headfirst into a pond. He looked around and his eyes widened at the sight of his surroundings. He was in a cave. Sunlight ripples through several holes in the ceiling and the twisting flowery vines that hung from them. A waterfall like the one they had jumped into fell from a hole in the center of the ceiling that was much larger than the others.
The water cascaded down into a large pool of sparkling clear blue water. Lotuses floated along the surface and bobbed when struck by ripples. The pond stretched to meet dark rocks with curved textures that rose to the top of the cave.
Kyle looked next to himself and saw Summer laying on her side, asleep or unconscious like he had been. He crawled over and reached out for her shoulder. He shook her gently and she rolled over and pushed herself into an upright position. She looked around, seemingly as bewildered as Kyle. She turned to look at him.
"Where are we?" she asked Kyle, a small amount of concern rising in her voice.
Kyle shrugged, "How should I know? Maybe there was a cave below that pond that we fell into."
They both took in their surroundings to a greater extent, then their eyes met.
Summer's lip quivered, "How do we get out? And where is that deer? Wouldn't it have fallen down too?"
Kyle sighed, "I really don't know. Looks like this cave has some passages leading off."
"And you just want us to follow one blindly? You're hilarious, I'm laughing so hard." Summer rolled her eyes.
"Shut up," Kyle shot back at her. "We can be a bit more logical than that."
He stood and looked around again.
"I can hear birds, so wherever that sound is the strongest we should follow," Kyle stated, pointing in the direction of the sound.
They began to walk towards one of the passages, listening for the birdsong to become stronger. each of them stood in front of a different passage, straining to listen.
Summer closed her eyes, 'I think I hear em pretty well over here."
Kyle walked over to her passage and listened as well.
"You're right, I can hear em pretty well. Might as well try it," Kyle said hesitantly.
He took a deep breath and stepped into the dark. Summer followed close behind, with her hand gripping the back of his flannel. The dark winding path offered very little light for them to make their way through. However the walls of the tunnel started to glow and light started to filter in.
Kyle turned to smile at Summer, "Guess we chose the right tunnel."
The two reached the end of the passage and they walked out, shielding their eyes from the blinding light.
They both blinked, adjusting their eyes to the brightness as they walked up to a large hill-like cliff that overlooked a large valley surrounded by hills and wispy pinkish clouds.
Kyle and Summer stopped dead in their tracks peering at the vast landscape before them. Their eyes widened and their mouths dropped as they watched dragons fly past, centaurs race between trees, and mermaids jump from ponds in the valley below.
