“The Kujuko Gala, an experiment created and orchestrated by Dr.Jensen Kujuko.” Butterfly read. I got closer to him so I could read as well.
“Some kind of experiment with kids, I think. It was to test the kids of the country...Agrius? What the hell is an Agrius?” Butterfly looked to me with confused eyes.
“That sounds familiar though. Do you think we’ve been there? Do you think that’s where we are now?” I asked him.
He shrugged and put the stack of papers down, “I have no damn idea. We should show this to the other two. Maybe they know about-”
“Guys! We got a problem!” Red Panda bust through the doors and ran up to us with Panther in tow.
“What's wrong? Don't tell me you fucked something up, Red.” Butterfly grabbed Red Panda by his sleeve.
“Fucked something up? Damn it, Butterfly! We didn't do a damn thing! We just saw some guys outside this place through the security room and we’ve never seen them before!” Red Panda pulled Butterfly’s hand off him. Panther nodded.
“Yeah, come with us and we’ll show you.” Panther walked out of the room, expecting us to follow. Butterfly and I looked at each other and then at Red Panda. Soon after, we caught up with Panther and followed her to a room filled with monitors.
“At first, we didn't see them. They walking around this screen for a little while. Once we turned on all of the monitors, we realized that they were there. We could also see you guys in the room you were in.” Panther explained, pointing to the three men who wore black ski masks and white lab coats.
“Oh god. What are we gonna do? How do we get out of here without them finding us and potentially killing us?” Butterfly leaned on the desk.
“We sneak through the vent again. If we don't leave her in about five minutes, they’ll probably come inside.” Panther pulled a small dagger from the pocket of her coveralls.
“Where did you get that from?” I backed up as she threw the dagger up and caught it.
“I woke up with it. Didn't know what to do with it, so I kept it with me.” She said as she put it back in her pocket.
“Okay, so what are we standing here and conversing for? Let's get the hell out of here!” Red Panda ran out of the room and we ran behind him.
We all ran back to the library, climbed up the bookshelf and back into the vent. We crawled through so quickly that it all seemed like a blur. Once we got outside, we ran without even checking if there was anyone behind us. We ran through all the bushes and trees until we finally got back to the camp.
“What the hell, Bear! How in God's name is this going to last us the rest of the time we’re going to be stuck here in this hellscape?!” We heard Bat yell.
“I'm sorry! I wasn't thinking! All I did was eat some of the food!” Bear apologized, he seemed to be standing behind Wolf.
“What in God’s name is going on here?” Panther ran up to Bat.
“Bear ate half of the rations so Bat said he was going to kill him.” Spider said, suddenly walking up to Panther. He hasn't spoken in a while. The situation must have silenced him even more than he was when we first met him.
“Wait, why? Damn, I guess the stereotypes are true.” Butterfly scratched his head, fixing his mask. “But anyway, you can't fight! We have some stuff to tell you guys!” Butterfly added.
“Really? Are we really hearing this from you?” Bat glared at Butterfly.
“Who the hell do you think you're talking to?!” Butterfly tried to lunge at him but I grabbed his arm and held him back.
He whispered at me, “Its okay. I won't hurt him...too much.”
“It doesn't matter whether he wasn't thinking or not. He ate half of our rations. We found him eating the rations. The little fucker snuck out of his tent while we were berry picking.” Bat growled.
“Guys, guys! Let's not fight. Maybe the Announcer will bring us some more food? I'm sure he’s watching us.” Wolf suggested.
“Really? Are you kidding me? You’ve got a lot of hope for that guy, huh?” Bat held his fist up to Wolf’s face.
“Can we not do this? This is so unnecessary.” Owl pushed her glasses up the bridge of her beak. Panther nodded and walked next to her.
“Exactly, let’s not do this right now. Maybe we all need to take a nap or somethin’.” Panther put her arm around Owl’s shoulders.
Owl looked at her and shook her head up and down. The two of them left us standing there, flabbergasted, as they walked to their tent and went inside. We stood there in silence for a good minute before Butterfly spoke.
“I agree. I’m going to bed.” Butterfly yawned and rubbed his eyes.
Soon after, Red Panda reluctantly followed. Wolf grabbed my hand and looked to me as if to ask “Want to go to sleep too?”. I smiled at her and she led me to the tent. We both got in but before I laid down, I looked through the flaps of the tent. I could see Spider, Bear, Axolotl, and Bat going to their tents.
“Wait a minute...where was Duck this whole time?” I asked myself. Instead of questioning it, I assumed that she must've just been in her and Bat’s tent this whole time to avoid the conflict.
“I don’t blame her,” I said, shrugging.
“What? What did you say?” Wolf looked up at me with confused eyes. I then realized that I must've said that out loud.
“Nothing. Don’t worry about it.” I mumbled, before laying down and softly falling asleep.
